Pros: Never quits lots of power to play with

since purchasing this cpu i've noticed a big differance in the spped of applications and the ablity to keep up. went from a dual core pentium to the core 2 quad and from gamming perspective no flaws noticed yet(Guild Wars and Grand Thieft Auto IV) took cpu ratting on win 7 64bit from a 6.2 to a 7.2 also brought he ram up to a 7.2 as well.

Cons: -Low multiplier-Heatsink, but you should know better than to use the stock intel one-A bit pricier than you'd expect these days

Pros: -Fast-Easy to overclock-VM technology-Good temps
Comment:
Got this as a last upgrade to my current pc, which had an e7400. Overclocked immediately to 400fsb & 3.2g with low vcore and temps. Solid.

Cons: Price!!too expensive when you consider that it's not current i5/i7 stuff.

Pros: 4GHZ f 1.26vidles at 35-38c and 60-65c loaded

Wow...I'm shocked at how easy this was to overclock! My 2 year old Zalman CNPS9700LED does a good job keeping it cool.It seems like it could keep going (4.4 or 4.5GHZ easy) but my board and memory are holding it back!! So maybe some water cooling and ddr2 1200 could make things really interesting

Just bought this about a month ago. This processor is a great bang for the buck. It's plenty fast for the gaming I do on it, and I've yet to see it slow down. Highly recommend.

I would recommend this processor hands down. I have no complaints about its abilities. I do however don't agree with Intel's choice to include a fan and heat sink that are not good enough. I didn't even try the Intel fan. I bought a ThermalTake SpinQ the same time I bought my q9400. With this fan and processor I have found no lag or overheating at all. I run games at full setting while also using Vuze, youtube, and media player. I applaud Intel for this. Good deal and a gaming processor if you get a bigger fan.

I learned the hardware that my pre-production QX9640 CPU wouldn't run 64-bit Windows 7 Pro, so I bought one of these instead (the original was a freebie from Intel that they sent me to write a review for Tom's Hardware, so I have no ill will toward Intel at all). This chip isn't as fast as the QX9650 but it runs reasonably cool (I'm using a Zalman CNPS 9500 cooler, and seeing temps in the 30-40 Celsius range). I had some issues with automatic overclocking that also taught me that this proc only works with multipliers in a range from 6.0 to 8.0. That's the only thing that enthusiasts might want to watch out for: unless you use a really good mobo and fast, fast memory you probalby won't get much overclocking out of the Q9400. It's a great fit for my test machine, tho, and a good value for the money. --Ed--

Good CPU and fast. what a difference from a P4. Runs a little warm gonna get a new CPU cooler. Would recommend if on a budget. You can get this and a motherboard for the price of a x58 mobo. Used my old ram and other parts made for a good first build.

I needed to find a processor that would handle large audio files and plug-ins without taxing my CPU-this one does just that. However, I suggest that you consider a larger fan in the mix just to be cool. Snappy performance for recording, editing, and mastering of multiple tracks and plug-ins, and without buffer error messages at playback.

Upgraded my Pentium D (original dual core) to this workhorse. Runs cool but man, turns into a coal stove when you give it a workout. Use a good cooler and Arctic 5.

The processor performs great. I upgraded from a pentium D and the performance level has greatly improved. However, if your planning on getting this processor overclocked you should look more into it. I got this processor to max out at 3.2 ghz and ran prime95; stable as it can be.If you want a processor that runs at a higher clocked rate than go for other processors.

Upgraded from an E4600 that was overclocked from 2.4 to 3.2 GHz. Initially when I installed this quad core I was not impressed. However, Crysis (at all high settings 1680 X 1050) used to dip down in framerates from 30 to less than 10 FPS during some intense firefights but this thing stayed rock solid with maybe 3 or 4 FPS dips. It also runs about 10 degrees (celsius) cooler since I am not stressing 2 cores to da max no mo! :)

Runs real fast. I have two Nvidia 9800 gt's in sli and 4 gigs of RAM. My windows live experience scores are all over 7 except for my hdd which make my score a 5.9 :( Can run all games (Arma 2, Crysis, Farcry 2) on max settings (textures, antialiasing, etc) with a frame rate at or above 30 fps. Good value
