Fast runs very nice practically nothing genuinely bad I can say about it. I had bottle neck concerns with my GTX 480 when I changed to the i7 I got more than 80 to 100 much more fps in my games See my other thoughts One factor as I am not a massive tech maybe I just don't know but this CPU says it's a 3.2 gig when my computer boots up in bios shows a 2.66???

Installed on an ASUS Rampage Intense Mobo. The ASUS utility overclocked to 3.8GHZ with no issues at all. After I ran Intel updates the chip hits four.0ghz. Not terrible at all. It stays cool OC'd utilizing Corsair H50. I wish I had 赨 much more dollars to throw at an unlocked chip. If you are pondering seriously about Over Clocking make positive to get an unlocked chip and start off with one thing three.6ghz+ On the other hand 3.2 to four. is not also shabby.

Rapidly processor, simple installation of CPU itself. Really hard to tell if heat sink is anchored occasionally, higher price tag compared to slightly slower versions. General I've had excellent luck with this processor, even though initially I did have a difficulty where the heat sink wasn't anchored to the motherboard adequately. It took a when to uncover this as it appeared anchored, although it wasn't. Reinstallation of the heat sink cured this.Hyper-threading is kind of odd at initially as it shows up to the OS as 8 logical CPU's.

I use this machine for expert applications and SolidWorks 2010 CAD. I replaced a machine with this processor an other new hardware and my productivity is increased by about 4-5X. No additional just sitting at the workstation waiting for the processor. The multi-threading means I can even run complete backups even though designing in CAD. No additional worries about overwhelming the machine. The processor ran correctly the initially time booting with no problems so far even with big assembly files. The cost but with the increased functionality I can't seriously complain.

Incredibly rapid cpu, 3.2GHz!I was seeking at 950 but this got affordable so got it as an alternative. No regrets! Had to get it mainly because my LGA775 board died on me.. Sandy Bridge have heat troubles and some other troubles, didn't wanted to get it.. Will wait for the 2011 maybe will upgrade to it when it will come out.. I have often been an AMD guy, this is the quite initially intel processor I have ever owned, I upgraded from a Phenom II x4 940 ʃ.5Ghz. The overall performance distinction is astronomical, 3Dmark score went up almost 25% just by upgrading the processor, the functionality raise is consistant all across the board particularly with video encoding. I really cannot give this processor adequate praise, I was concerned about the cost but I got far more than what I paid for and I certainly could not do a lot superior than this. The installation was strange to me, but I am utilized to the pins getting on the processor not the motherboard lol! Intel just produced a consumer for life, seriously great efficiency from this specially with gaming in all the games I have tried hence far anywhere from a 25-35% functionality increase all across the board, CPUMark score close to doubled! Good processor, excellent item, fantastic efficiency.

for what I read this CPU runs cool and quickly. I presently have an old Pentium4 three.2GHz HT. it was fast but now newer applications expected a lot more CPU power, that back in my cpu's days, even net browsing is really hard to do with all that javascript thrown at you. it seams that this type of cpu's are the future, so if you have the cash and prefer to invest it in a CPU that in a major Tv that you could use as a monitor, then get this CPU. it has HT (see other thoughts) Just about every processor ever made was expensive at some point but their price tag with out exception drops. so I will wait to see if one thing really incredible comes out or till this cpu expense a lot significantly less, like 70 bucks. ;) I don't want to loose income once more. HT is not always a very good idea. what it does is to cut your cpu core's power in half, so that a approach only uses half of your processor's energy. like converting several FLACs files to MP3s. I guess that you can convert 8 at the time instead of two, but if you are looking for speed then don't use HT.

Generally and forever, the only con with Intel processors is their price vs. competitors.Processor runs fairly warm with my cooler and Arctic Silver 5 at about 37 per core on idle up to 60 per core at gaming and 70+ per core on burn in. I've been dreaming of this rig due to the fact the fall. I was set on a 950, then this went on sale. Got it for the identical price at a nearby components shop and skipped shipping fees. I just built a rig for the wife with an AMD Phenom II X4 925 Deneb, and this just destroys it!I haven't benchmarked a lot since I just constructed it. Through 3 hours of CRYSIS my temps are 46 C on the CPU and 68 C on the GPU. I thought about Sandy Bridge, but I was hell bent on the ASUS Rampage III Gene and an In Win Dragon Slayer. I ripped a DVD to ISO in like eight minutes. Haven't performed substantially media conversion however, but I will. I like my ZuneHD and my eLocity Android tablet.I went from Pentium four, to Core two Duo and Athlon two, to Phenom II X4. The jump from C2D to Phenom II was massive. I think from Phenom II to i7 is almost as significant. For those haters out there who feel a Phenom II quad can even come close to i7 950 and above, WAKE UP!And by the way, ::sticks tounge out and flips the bird:: to Sandy Bridge. Not a f@#$~!ng factor!! I'm so in like with my rig. Don't hate on me. I've been developing rigs for a though for other people today, and my final gaming rig I constructed for myself was in 2006, and I had a P4 single core three. Fantastic if you are not an overclocker, you will have the fastest quad core on the block and it will love your rig if you give it the ideal hardware to interact with. It's not far better than a d0 920 overclocked up to 4.2-4.three The chip I got doesn't oc well with the native X24 multiplier. I couldn't get previous 3.6 until I droped down to the 23x multi and was able to barely squeeze out 4.3ghz. Reduce end chips usually OC greater and will be less costly. I have owned three 920's two 950's and now this 960. I'm gonna be swapping this out for a 970. At least if that chip sucks at overclocking it will nevertheless have additional cores.

One of the greatest procs money can acquire.Overclocks good. Built a technique for a friend 4 months ago and he is really pleased with the overall performance of this chip. Price tag/vs/performance is o.k.I totally agree with the guy who said "get a quad core AMD if you are going to use the chip for gaming and simplistic stuff. No I am not an AMD fan boy I actually personal all Intel items(and 1 AMD).Buddy nevertheless nags me about the price tag he paid for this chip(a month later the 950 went beneath 跌)oh nicely, that is technologies.Stock cooler is decent. Honestly, this is a fantastic chip, but Intel must look at dropping the value for the customers' sake. The i7 950, which is just about, identical is down to under 跌.If you are obtaining Intel go with the 950,otherwise you are paying an added 跌 for miniscule overall performance obtain.

Runs on Fedora 12 (x86_64) with 6GB RAM. Primary use VirtualBox virtualization. It handles Linux virtual OSes really effectively. Linux and open source software program has to catch up with this hardware. Out of the box for a Fedora 12(x86_64) system. Multicore Folding(SMP) does not perform, only single core does, Open Solaris virtual machine is slower that Linux virtual machine. Flash will not operate. All of this (except the Multicore Folding) functions out the box for x86. This has nothing at all to do with the CPU it's as I mentioned in the Cons section. What else do you expect!!! Don't touch Linux unless your ready to play!!!

I would suggest receiving a very good aftermarket heat sink with this beast. If I Could do it yet again, I would have built a Quad Core I5 Method, simply because it is so much over kill, even for an extreme Multi Tasking User like my self.Video Editing appears to be exactly where this issue genuinely shines...
