As an avid AMD individual, I must say; I am entirely impressed with this processor. Running RIFTS (beta of course) at maximum settings, with 8gb DDR3 RAM, I have no noticeable graphical lag; nor do I have difficulties windowing out to yet another program. Intel has performed a bangup job with their processors given that the last time I had one particular. It isn't enough to totally take the place of AMD in my life, but quite darn close. Not necessarily a con for the procesor, nor a reduction in eggs; but the six Series chipset for motherboards is being recalled due to faulty SATA ports. It's far more annoying than something. I switched my principal residence server from a Q9550 to this proc + a Gigabyte P67-UD3 and its running great so far. The program just as stable and defintely runs quicker. Also one more large plus is the power savings, the Q9550 + 6 Drives + GTS 250 ran about 145w idle and the i5, is only at 95w. It's not cost-free. I do want Intel would stop changing their socket platforms...

nothing incorrect with this chip. Don't let AMD fans speak you out of one particular! If you want to overclock purchase the 2500K model rather. Intel's 2000 series processors are the very best thing out there appropriate now.

Upgraded to this from a Core2Duo E6600 that I purchased back in 2006 - What a difference! The performance in videogames and function applications alike have gone from decent to insane. Every thing works extremely smoothly and the chip itself stays quite cool at complete load with just stock air cooling (between 35-40ºC at full load in Battlefield Poor Company II, maxed out settings). None, seriously. definitely worth the money. If you have an older system, choose one particular of these up for your subsequent upgrade. It's not the leading finish Sandy Bridge chip, but shopping for the "top finish" is often a waste. This provides excellent performance at an effortless-to-swallow cost.

Bought this for a budget build. Definitely does a decent job out of the box, but if you have budget and the expertise spring for an unlocked model. Also probably worth investing in an aftermarket cooler. Overall, decent product for the price.

Really like the new bios regular and paired with a P8P67 Asus board this setup eats via any game on the market and has accomplished incredibly well with my video editing and recording. None Certainly worth the upgrade if your utilizing anything beneath the i series cpu. (upgraded from a dual core pentium) Fixed all fps concerns with gaming. Only factor bottlenecking my performance is my harddrive. (upgrading to ssd soon)

It runs quite cool, quite quickly, four cores rather than 2 cores with hyper threading like the earlier Core i5 6xx series. Calls for new socket 1155 motherboard. I am employing this in company computers. Is it overkill? yes. But I am confident these will be in a position to perform for 5+ years before needing to be replaced. They are lightning quick, and they really feel noticeably quicker than Core two or even initially gen Core i5 systems. As a side note I ran 3D Mark 2001 SE (Old; I know) but the integrated graphics manages to get a score of 13000. My old Geforce 4200 Ti (On a Pentium 4 two.four at the time) could barely get 13000. Its just exciting to see how far integrated graphics has come.

Superb efficiency for the value. Intel's support was top-notch when I went to their LiveChat operators with questions. Would deduct half an egg for the heatsink if I could. Installing the heatsink is seemingly straightforward, but soon after a couple of minutes of BFBC2 I was hitting temperatures in excess of 90 degrees C. Turns out the heatsink was only generating make contact with with half of the CPU's surface, as only half of the pre-applied thermal paste showed signs of contact. Upgraded from an AMD X2 4600+.

Cons: does not come with a great heatsink

Pros: quad core on a budget
Comment:
I've been reading tons of reviews on how bad the provided heatsink is, but really it doesnt matter unless you're doing some serious video processing or gaming. I got a $10 artic cooling heatsink and it does a great job. It is a great processor on a budget for mid-range systems.

Cons: Lousy heatsink, not unlocked for overclocking

Pros: Good price, good performance
Comment:
I bought this for a midrange system, and it does the job at a reasonable price. If I had known how awful the included heatsink was, however, I would have sprung $20 on a much better one. It's noisy and doesn't cool very effectively. This isn't your first choice if you want to OC the heck out of your machine, but it's a good choice for a budget build. If you're noise-conscious, just add an aftermarket heatsink to the package and you're set.
