Cons: Noisy (Just like all cd drives so it doesn't count really)

Pros: AffordableComes with a copy of powerDVD to play blu-ray
Comment:
Paired this up with my 27in monitor and the movies are just unbelievable! I noticed more details now, or maybe it's just that I've been watching my blu-ray movies from a distance.

Pros: Fast and Reliable
Comment:
I bought this for my HTPC. This is my first Bluray player so I wanted something top of the line. After considering other brands and reading many review this seemed like the right choice. No complaints so far, burns error free discs and plays Bluray well. Makes typical optical drive noises when reading discs. Otherwise its fast and reliable.

Cons: None that I can see.

Pros: Whats to say, its a disc drive. Nice finish, and I like the blue LED
Comment:
I bought this for my multimedia PC, as I wanted to be able to play Blu Ray movies on it as well. I don't own a seperate Blu ray player so I thought why not? Seems to function as it should i'm quite pleased with the end result. Plays blu rays just fine. Nice to finally see a movie in HD on my 1080P television!

Cons: Rip locked like the majority of other drives out there, need to take additional steps to reach its potential.

Pros: Relatively quiet, seems to handle all the media I throw at it, good price to performance value.
Comment:
Bought this drive since I've pretty much been using LG drives for years and they've always proven to be reliable and decent performers. In this particular case, I bought this drive primarily to back up my personal BD movies. However, after running various tests and checking stats, found that the read speed of this drive is well below the specs when it comes to movies. Haven't tried it on data discs, so can't comment on that. I was getting peak read speeds in the area of 5x (23 MBps), and averaging 3.5x (15 MBps) with BD. After taking some steps (google 'mcse' along with this model number for more info), got the drive to perform at 5.6x (25MBps) average, with a peak of 9.4x (42 MBps), which is pretty much in line with what this drive should have been doing out of the box. Much happier now.

This is a great drive and works very well. I got it when it was on sale and it works nicely. Unlike other Blueray drives, this one actually reads all types of Blueray discs without problem.

Cons: Trouble reading RAM disks

Pros: Reasonably quietFast
Comment:
I was completely happy with the unit until I tried reading RAM disks. This resulted in system hangs, forced to restart (sometimes returning to the black screen, "safe mode" restart option). On occasion only option was to switch system off at the power supply!! Running Win 7 64-bit on i7 system. Tried same RAM disks in older XP Pro system which also has older LG GSA4040 drive....disks were read perfectly. Phoned LG Canada to enquire whether there was a firmware update  available for newer unit to resolve issue(no), and was told that they do not support this USA model. Phoned LG USA and they stated unit was likely faulty so recommended I RMA the unit. Still awaiting replacement from NCIX, will update  posting when received...

Cons: - Had issues with blu-ray playback using the bundled software

Pros: - Blu-ray!- Good price (on sale 93 CAD)
Comment:
Great product. These seem to be gaining in popularity. Decent price on sale (~90 CAD). Had problems with the blu-ray playback using the bundled software. The movie would play fine for a minute or two and then I get a BSOD (common nvidia issue apparently; using a gtx 460). Too much advice online. What I did to solve the issue is to go into the nvidia control panel - 3d settings, and turn the settings down to a minimum. Seemed to work for me.

Cons: DVD-Writing isn't as fast, but with really fast ones selling for under $30 these days, it makes sense to have a second drive for DVD writing (and the ability to copy doesn't hurt), and as you probab;y want to extend the lifespan of your BD-ROM drive, being able to use it almost EXCLUSIVELY for Blu-Ray and minimizing the wear on the drive is almost a no-brainer.

Pros: Quiet, fairly quick and quiet for Blu-Ray
Comment:
There's not much to say other than this drive is great. I mean, who DOESN'T want Blu-Ray? Picked it up about 2 months ago for $90 on sale (it's only $10 more now) and for Blu-Ray drives to hit sub-$100 prices so quickly is amazing. Everyone should get one.Now if only BD media would come down in price, it'd be an even better purchase to go with one of those... imagine the archiving potential of these discs. I seem to remember though back when DVD-RW drives were exotic and it took forever to get to what was largely considered the 'sweet spot" of sub-$200. Clearly people want more bang for thir buck though this time around, and the manufacturers are obviously keenly aware because these drives have dropped in price at pretty significant speeds. It's hard to go wrong with one of these drives though, especially for the price.

Cons: Ripping DVDs is somewhat slower than my other DVD-Writer LG drive.

Pros: Seems quiet enough and well built. Good price.

It is great to have a Blu-Ray BD-ROM unit on the computer for doing some video type work. This was a great purchase and at a time when finally, BD-ROMs are now pretty inexpensive.

Cons: -Software is outdated (at least its included)

Pros: -10x BD-Rom Speed-Nice Bezel-AHCI Compatible-Includes Molex-Sata adapter-Includes 100$ worth of software
Comment:
Got this drive for a HTPC/Home Server build and it works great, no buffering movies. Paired it with an i3-530 and used the onboard graphics (only used about 25% CPU the whole time). Had some stability issues with it crashing during playback but traced it to a RAM voltage issue.Very nice drive, there's a tier up that has Blu-Ray burning as well, but at 15$ a disk why bother?

Cons: I guess it could have offered the latest PowerDVD but for a freebie it's great

Pros: On sale, it's a good deal (about 90$) for a retail version.Everything is included, PowerDVD 8, a whole bunch of near useless programs, sata cable, sata/molex adapter, screws and user guide.Activity blue LED is not too bright compared to my others LG DVD drives's green LED.
Comment:
Speed observed when ripping a Blu-Ray movie usually starts around 8mb/s and slowly (read .01 per second) increase up to around 20 Mb/s then it's backward from there.(Tried it on dual layer blu-rays)Took about 30-35 (maybe less) minutes to rip a Blu-ray disc. I find it very acceptable as it's still way shorter than the movie itself.1 year warrantyI give it five star because it does what I needed it to do, for the price I was willing to pay. Can't see about long term use but at least it worked like a charm out of the box ( windows 7 64bits)If you experience audio lag with Powerdvd 8, I suggest downloading any update  available and latest firmware for the drive. Cons: Bluray is stil way too expensive. Not the latest version Cyberlink PowerDVD.

Pros: Work fine for everything : reading Blurays and DVDs, writing DVDs.

Cons: The PowerDVD8 software that is included in this package is poor. It played the blurays "Unforgiven," "Iron Man," and "Indiana Jones, crystal skull" in black and white. This occurred in spite of the latest firmware updates applied to the drive. These same BDs played perfectly with WinDVD2010 pro. The shiny/piano finish of the drive face is a little gaudy. My preference is matte finishes but this is really a minor quibble.

Pros: Reads every bluray and dvd I've thrown at it. It relatively quiet while BD and DVD movie playback. Has auto firmware updater which keeps the drive updated without any user effort.BD playback produces about 10% CPU load on an i3-530, using cpu based integrated video in Windows 7's balanced mode.
Comment:
I was afraid I would be receiving a "sometimes works" drive. This BD drive performs extremely well and is well suited to take advantage of core iXs. I'm extremely pleased and recommend this to anyone that needs a "just works" solution for BD playback in their HTPC. BDs tested:UnforgivenIron ManCoraline 2-discAmerican PsychoDarkknight

Cons: # DVD read-write rates a bit slower than the current generation of dvd writers# Glossy (not simply matte black) exterior design# Cyberlink software is annoying

Pros: # 10X BD Reader# Comes with a sata cable, screws, molex adapter# Lightscribe
Comment:
A great buy when it's on sale ($99 in April 2010). It's not overly noisy to my ears, unlike what I read in another review. It's versatile (lightscribe capable) and misses only bd-writer functionality. But with the current cost of BDRs and no one else having their own bd drive to swap your discs with, does it matter?

Cons: Quite loud when spinning

Pros: Reads blurays

A solid blu ray player. I thought it would be an OEM drive for that price, but it came with all the screws, a SATA cable and a molex to SATA power adapter. I was very impressed. However, the drive gets quite loud when it spins up.

Just wanted a Blu-ray reader to play movies off a HTPC. Works great and does the job. I found when the drive really spins up fast it is kinda loud (like doing a copy). But om normal play, it is fine.

Cons: Sometimes loud on spin-up with regular DVD-R.

Pros: Plays Blu-ray!
Comment:
For $100 you can't really go wrong, I have a nice system that deserves a blu-ray drive. I have only watched 2 movies so far, but they are stellar on my Samsung 2493HM monitor. As with previous DVD drives I have owned from LG the spin up on DVD-R's is very loud when compared to the likes of Samsung or Sony/Optiarc. when a Blu-ray is playing, I don't hear it at all. I also don't like the silver across the bezel. Overall a very nice drive, 10x BD read fastest around.

Pros: - Relatively silent- Relatively good software package- Pleasant aesthetic- Fast
Comment:
I have been looking for a blu-ray player for a while and I decided to get one of these for my desktop. The front end is aesthetically pleasing due to the piano black finish. The open/eject button is discrete but functional. The drive is relatively silent. The package includes PowerDVD 8 which is not the latest version. The only downside is the price considering that you can get a DVD writer for $25 nowdays
