Honestly, would never purchase this again. It has caused me more headaches than its worth. A year ago, I had synology replace my CS-406e with this newer unit, CS-407e claiming the previous was defective due to memory issues. Guess what, seems like I'm in the same boat a year later with the CS-407e freezing up/crashing randomly. My biggest mistake was wasting $580 on this POS. The only thing that has saved me from losing all my data was having a Drobo as a backup. |

This is an excellent device for basic NAS needs. Performance is a little slow compared to other 4-bay units. I have this and the CS-407 and definitely notice that the slower CPU / lower RAM makes a difference. I have the CS-407 and have used it for about 2 years. This is the greatest thing for home/small office. I started with 4 x 500 GB and I just finished upgrading to 4 x 1 TB. I have it hooked up to a GB LAN for home use and a Sony PlayStation 3. It has a server for media that allows the PS3 to draw from the huge storage capacity for movies and music. I had trouble with a drive a little over a year ago and simply removed the bad one and inserted a new one. It takes care of the rest - no data loss or stress.I use it to backup my files for small business as well. With automated backups running daily it gives a great feeling of security.For the price, this has got to be the best bang for the buck available. Their support is great as well. When I did have the drive trouble, their support was eager to help and kept at it until we found the issue. In my mind, that's what separates a good product from a great one.I would absolutely recommend this device for home use - it's great!
