Cons: -Too simple-Speed - Typically Drobo's are slow; all of us Drobo owners are aware of that, but for the most part it doesn't hamper us in any major way. But DroboShare sometimes(not all the time), is REALLY slow. I have a gigabit network and on some occasions I couldn't even watch a video from the Share. The video wasn't even in hi-def either.-Very limited user-system-SMB only (no NFS, AFP, etc)-No advanced features (it lacks ftp, upnp, and other NAS features found by alternatives)

Cons: 1. drobo dashboard does not recognize droboshare even after latest upgrades to Drobo firmware and dashboard.2. throughput on 100mb ethernet much slower than USB connection.3. Expensive for what it does.

I got my drobo a few months ago and was satisfied with its convenience and ease of use. Yesterday I received the droboshare. Drobo is not a speed demon to begin with but very acceptable with a USB2 connection. Through DroboShare connected and 100mb ethernet it is very, very slow. I grabbed this because I wanted something that could be network accessible, with a low foot-print (power-wise, spatial-wise), that any user could back-up to. What I got was something that completely disappointed my every expectation. My biggest gripe is the user-system. It supports either "admin-only" or "guest-only" (you can't run both at the same time). This really defeats the purpose of having multiple-users with their own private share location to back-up to, without invading another user's privacy. Tack on my frustration using it with Media Centre PC, at times the speed was unreliable to use as a back-end. My advice is to avoid this one. I love my Drobo, but am completely disappointed with my DroboShare, given the choice, I'd chuck-out the DroboShare, and put the Drobo on a Via pico-PC, or shuttle PC or spare desktop PC(if you don't mind it being on all the time), and get a fully working multi-user system, with multi-protocol support, and real server features.
