Cons: the price... but it's worth it !

Pros: Bulet Proof. Easy to setup. Veryfast

I purchase the Dlink DNS323 for my first nas, them the Synology DS410... and i regret not doing this in the first time !It's the best NAS i ever found. Last week, i notice slow CPU power on the nas, them i lost access to the drive. When i re-build the OS with the synology application, i notice that... i lost nothing ! everything was there !The only lost, was 4 hours of my time googling and try to find how i can restore my data from a PC using ubuntu.... but when i found the correct walkthrue from a Synology Forum, i re-gain access to everthing in less than 5 min...My next purchase in NAS will be the 1505 ! .... a beauty with a cost... but it worth it ! they create  so much usefull application, and also an Open source community as been build arround this NAS, so if Synology stop helping you, yoou still got help from someone else !

Cons: None so far...

Pros: Performance, web interface, easy setup, flexibility built quality, look
Comment:
Bought this NAS as an upgrade of my Qnap TS-419P and as soon as I initialized it, there is a big speed speed difference because of the processor. Paired with 4 X ST4000VN000 in raid 5, I am getting 110-120 mo/s in read and 100-105 mo/s in write without jumbo frames enabled. Everything is easy to install. Web interface is really good and looks very good. Initializing 4 X 4TB hard drives was long but this is predictable and you can still use/configure the NAS during process. Really happy with this first experience with Synology

Cons: Hibernation when running Plex

Pros: Easy to setup, but enough options and features (packages) for the most advanced network setup.
Comment:
I'm extremely pleased with this Synology box. It was simple to setup a RAID10 solution, and shares. In addition, there are many useful packages, especially Plex, if you plan on using it to store your media. It is a bit costly - especially when adding 4 drives, but I suspect it will last me quite a while. The box itself is near-silent.What's also nice, is that if you have a Smart TV that supports a Plex app, you no longer need another device (Roku, Xbox, PC, etc) to connect to your TV - you can run Plex on the TV and the Synology box will serve it up with a great interface. The one trick I'm trying to sort out is why it won't go into hibernation when Plex is running. I'm suspecting a logging issue at the moment, but that is still unclear. There are a couple of threads on the Synology forum about this.Really a lot of features available - too many to mention, but I am pleased so far.

Cons: RFI - Long time indexing large blocks of data with Plex

Pros: Reliability, consistent performance
Comment:
I have been running VM's off of a "fake raid" Intel RST array attached to my mobo for a while. Performance was decent (not great) but I was finding that the virtual machines I needed to run for business were suffering losses of availability because I would have issues now again.Enter the Synology RAID - I did my homework and concluded that this was the right NAS for me. I spend alot of money on technology - in all of my years, I cannot think of a more worthwhile purchase. Performance is through the roof with multiple VM's loading faster than ever before. True RAID is worth it, but Synology makes it a joke - I had an 8.23 TB volume with a 1 TB allocated iSCSI LUN setup in 10 minutes. I turned on Jumbo Frames and as soon as I could move my VM's onto the LUN, it was up and running. In terms of Plex performance, I was worried that I wouldn't get the same speed. Far from it - everything streams almost instantaneously. (I also upgraded to a fully managed Netgear GB switch, which enabled adapter teaming - HIGHLY worth it.) The only room for improvement comment would be to find a means to speed up indexing within Plex. NOTE - when the indexing was happening, the CPU was pinned - amazinggly, streaming/NAS performance WAS NOT affected. I was blown away.

Cons: None!

Pros: Awesome web-based management interface, super easy setup, easy permission management, quick configuration, compact, reliable, fast, AFP support
Comment:
Went from a crappy tower running Vista and garbage Seagate drives (blergh!!!) to this with 4 x 2TB WD Red's in RAID 10 config. One of the best upgrades we've made to our office. We use this quite heavily with a team of designers smashing up large Photoshop & Illustrator files all day long and it hasn't even blinked. Was painless to set up, LAN failover is nice (or bridging for higher throughput if your network switch supports it.) Backup is seamless and reliable to external USB 3.0 HD, runs every night and sends an email to confirm. Never worried.Web-based DSM software is some of the best I've used, not just in a file box but web apps in general. Much attention to detail and usability!Overall a great file server for small business, but I'm sure it can handle much more. :)

Cons: Only 1 gb ram ( Not much considering the price of the unit compared to others in the same range)USB3 speeds leave something to be desired not much faster than usb2 (Go with esata if you want more storage or fast backup speeds)

Pros: Very Fast Speed Constant 100MB/Sec speedsWorks well with automatic BackupsRunning 4x3tb Western Digital Red Drives with no issuesHaven't managed to max out the cpu usage running multiple programs yet.
Comment:
I would highly recommend this system as its very fast easy to use and the DSM operating system that synology uses is top notch. While it would have been nice to perhaps have a vga or dvi port to allow a monitor to be used its not really that bad not having one as its so easy to setup on a network i doubt you could even write a synology for dummies. The Synology Hybrid Raid is an excellent system allowing you to run different sized hard drives or expand your raid as you need more but i would recommend getting the drives you need right away as i tried to add a 4th 3tb drive just to see how long it would take to add and it took me around 3 days to add it to the raid as compared to only a few minutes when intially building the raid.

Cons: A bit expensive for home use but the quality makes for it.

Pros: Good Build QualityVery silent (can't hear it 10 feets from my bed)Really like the audio and photo stationVMWare support, VAAI

I am running this unit with 4 x 1TB WD Black. I am getting really fast upload and download speeds. Constant 100+ MB/sec with large files with peaks around 180.I use iSCSI to supply storage to my home built ESXi 5 server and it's been really stable.I would not hesitate to buy this brand again.

Cons: Pricey

Pros: DependableEasy to useGreat interfaceTons of featuresFast!
Comment:
Dependability - I had 1 of 4 of my WD Black drives die after running for about a month...No files lost, just replaced it and all is well!Easy to use - Great interface - basically like logging into a Linux box over a virtual desktop. Very easy to find settings, and there sure are a lot of them. Crazy amount of features and tools here!Speed - I have tested actual numbers, but with 4 1TB WD Black drives using the Synology Hybrid RAID, HD video streams no problem, even while copying through other connections or downloading on the built in torrent client.A bit pricey, but this isn't an standard, entry-level, home use appliance. This is more geared toward the SMB crowd, for 10+ users, but if you have the money, go for it!

Cons: Gets dusty inside, giant power brick.

Pros: Awesome product, runs fast, hard drives stays cool, very quiet.
Comment:
Gets dusty inside but its probably because I have it close to the ground/carpet. Simple solution is to put a meshing on the vent holes on the bottom. Everything works great. Good buy.
