I have been using this via a PCIe USB 3.0 card for over 6 months. It replaced a Thermaltake BlackX Duet(which was only ever used for single drives) I get the same speed as eSATA. Similar physical appearance to the single BlackX dock (probably made in same Chinese factory) USB 3.0 is as swappable as any USB device in Windows. The power needs to be turned off to swap. It would be nice if the power button was located on the front (like the Duet) other than that little quibble, this has been a decent unit so far. |

I've used docks like these for a few years and love them. They make backing up drives so easy. But the only annoying thing has been speed: USB docks worked the best, but they're slow. eSATA docks work the fastest, but they can be finicky at times.This particular dock is USB 3.0 SuperSpeed, and it combines the best of both worlds. Not only is it blazingly fast, it's also fully natively hotswapable without jumping through hoops.The only downside is the power cord it comes with is on the short side. I used a short extension cable to reach where I wanted to put the dock. |

Large file transfers

This unit is much faster than my USB2 dock (~75MBps). But, I have come across an issue where in Win7 64 using windows explorer, large file transfers take unbearably long to complete.This might be a motherboard or driver issue but I have solved my problem by using old school copy commands in the command prompt.All in all, a satisfactory purchase, especially at this price. |

Very good product as the compatibility is excellent for both my WD 2.5 laptop hd and my 1TB 3.5 hd. Fast and excellent pricing when on sale. Would buy again. |

Cons:
Drives don't feel very secure as I would like them to in the dock.
Pros: USB3.0 lets my external drives transfer at similar speeds to my internal drives. Comment:
People would tell you that a SATA2 drive wouldn't run faster in a SATA3 enclosure, but I have experienced otherwise with this product. My large file transfers take minutes instead hours. |

Cons:
Plastic flap on opening is cheap and snapped within 5 min of opening the box

First slot enclosure so not much to compare to but this has performed adequately so far. USB3.0 will be useful once I upgrade my system. Has been handy for working on other people's drives when they have a failure. |

I already own a couple of Thermaltake eSATA/USB 2.0 docks and this one looks quite similar, except that it is USB 3.0. While I like eSATA for its speed, it can be a PITA to get an external drive properly recognized as removable, depending on your motherboard and the drivers used for your eSATA ports. With the USB 3.0 connection on this dock it just works without any fussing around and is nearly as fast as eSATA. I've also connected the dock to a USB 2.0 connection and that works fine as well, although at the slower USB 2.0 speeds.Like the Thermaltake dock, you can plug either a 2.5" or 3.5" drive in. That's handy for me because I regularly need to temporarily connect drives of both sizes and it's a lot simpler for me to use a dock instead of drive enclosures.A minor nitpick I have about this dock is that it's a little difficult to tell when the drive is being written to. With the Thermaltake dock, there is a blue light for power and a red light to indicate when the drive is being written to. However, with this dock there is only a single blue light - it does flash slightly when the drive is being written to but it's hard to notice. Not a big deal though - overall I'm very happy with this product. |
Overall, this unit has worked really well until I upgraded my PC and started having problems with large file transfers over USB 3.0 with Win7. Benchmarks results are still very good (80MB/s), but actually copying files over USB 3 is almost impossible, with transfers taking days to complete (< 5kB/sec). Something's wrong, but having a hard time determining what.
