I've been using LG drives for decades now, and after a brief experience with the competing Samsung models I don't see that changing. For a good price you are getting a reliable drive with very few caveats. However, I have to say that every new LG drive seems to be louder than the last. All-mesh computer cases have certainly not helped in this regard, but there is definitely something else going on here. At power-on the stepper motor for the lens makes some awful sounds. That's somewhat acceptable since you only hear it briefly, but this unit also had some very bad acoustic resonance once a disc was inserted. Each drive will obviously be a little different, but I'm still glad they don't get used as often as they used to. |

This is one of those parts that is always cheap, always performs like it should and nearly everyone needs when starting a new build. Have no complaints, would buy another for the next build. Unit like many others goes on sale often, wouldn't hurt to grab it at a sale price :) |

Great DVD writer for the price. I have to admit I do not use it as much now a days since I mainly use USB external storage instead. Not much else to say that it's a good product and does a good job at making DVD's. |
