Cons: - you can find cheaper 8 port 1 gig switches

Pros: - Cheap- At a glance lights (sucker for lights)- feels very tough- has some weight to it which stops it from getting dragged around from the weight of cords.
Comment:
Using this along with a 24 port netgear to service a far away bedroom needing multiple ports. Rock solid feeel to it - best made 8 port switch i have ever owned will buy another when I need it.

I bought this to replace another netgear switch and immediately saw increases in read/write speeds to my synology NAS. Good, fast, and cheap switch.

Review Date: 08/12/11
Cons: Only lasts about 2 or 3 years

Pros: Great when it works, non blocking full duplex gigabit switch with jumbo frame support and no fan
Comment:
Had one of these and one GS116, this one lasted about 2 years and the 116 maybe 2 1/2 or 3 years, they just stop working one day. Ended up losing some data thanks to windows delayed write failures - lucky I make daily backups! No power supply problems though, and don't send your power supply in when you RMA it - Netgear will send you another one and this way you end up with a spare. When they work they're great, very fast, quiet, they do run a little warm though.Would have given it 2 stars but since I bought it so long ago the NCIX review system would not let me

Cons: - No network management (not at this price!), or web admin interface, so look to higher priced switches for QOS or other management functions- No more I can think of

Pros: - Simple to set up- Auto Uplink (auto crossover detection)- Each jack has LEDS to indicate 10M 100M and 1000M connection and activity- Nice rebate (worked for me)
Comment:
I wanted a simple switch that did what it was supposed to. Easy to install, reliable. What else could I ask for? Would buy this model again. It's much smaller and better built that the older Netgear hubs and switches.

Overall it works great. it was very simple to setup and replaced my older 5 port switch. It is more reliable and throughput is definitely better than what i used to get before.

Pros: Lifetime warranty, metal case.
Comment:
Since this is just a switch, there's not a great deal to say about it, but this one is maybe a bit better than others in the same class of device, for a few reasons. Here's some of the good things about this switch:- Lifetime warranty.... doesn't get any better than that!- Metal case, which means it'll take a few knocks without damage to the business end of this device.- Each port has two lights, to indicate the speed of the connection, and show activity.- Has holes for wall mounting, which are better than most, i.e. they have a small piece of spring steel in them, so that the screw you use to mount them doesn't have to be screwed into the wall to the EXACT depth to be able to securely mount this switch.... a rather small thing, but shows attention to detail.- Automatically detects, and correctly uses, a regular ethernet cable or a crossover cable.- And last, but certainly not least, this switch just plain works, i.e. I plugged in the power, plugged in the appropriate network cables, and all connections worked, and have been working fine since I started using this device.

Cons: Lights attached to ports, get semi-covered

Pros: Nice little gigabit switch
Comment:
For a small profile 8 port gigabit switch, it's pretty good.Mounting holes make for a switch that doesn't get pulled around by the cables.Sturdy metal box is small and doesn't have stupid plastic protrusions seen on so many consumer switches making them non-rectangular.LEDs for each port are built into the port making them get covered up slightly when a cable is plugged into the port. Could use with a bit of distance between the LED and the plug to be able to better see the LEDs from a distance.4 Stars because it has a MIR instead of an IR.

Cons: PremiumHorizontal power adapter

Pros: GigabitProsafe (Lifetime Warranty if they honour it)
Comment:
To keep this short and simple, this switch just works. It's a premium unmanaged gigabit switch with lifetime warranty if they honour it. Just plug it in and it works right away.Personally, i'm one of those people that don't like the horizontal power plugs which seems to be the standard design for all Netgear products I own.

Cons: Power is on opposite side from ports.

Pros: ReliableNot too hotMetal case
Comment:
Very happy with this switch. Haven't had any issues with it, and it's been in continuous operation since August 09. The metal case is nice, as it dissipates heat well. Also has wall mounting slots on the underside. Will buy again when I need more ports.

Cons: Freezes. A lot.

Pros: Gigabit Ethernet for cheap. Performs well when it's working.
Comment:
Don't worry, it only freezes when there is an abundance of traffic flowing through it. Experienced the first freeze up about 4 months after purchase. A quick power cycle solves the issue but when it happens multiple times per day it starts to get a little irritating.Apparently the Netgear Prosafe series of switches have these issues... Google 'Prosafe freezes' and read for yourself.

This switch has served me well for the past 5 months. Great performance on LAN traffic. Now days its possible to find the GS108T (managed switch) for about the same price as this. You might not need that now but nice to have the option in the future.

Cons: - questionable internal build quality- poor reliability

Pros: - supports jumbo frames- seems solidly made- good GBLAN performance- excellent warranty (lifetime)- good tech support
Comment:
I have 4 of these running in a fairly high traffic environment. They perform great when they're working but I've had three die on me over the past year. Tech support has been great in RMAing the switches and getting replacements but they shouldn't be failing at this rate. Maybe I just bought from a bad batch?

Cons: Power on Back, Ethernet on Front

Pros: Metal caseWall MountableSolid PriceTakes Heavy Traffic
Comment:
I purchased this for a smaller business installation to replace a Linksys 5-port switch that kept conking out and requiring a restart. I needed it to hook up 6 computers and a network printer. This guy fit the bill fine, and it is wall mountable, which was handy, since this was all installed on a network/phone panel that you often see in smaller offices. I'm pleased that it doesn't conk out under the same load. Only con is that the power cord is on the back, which is makes it take up a little more space.

Pros: Metal encasing, lifetime warranty, excellent brand
Comment:
I already own a FS116 10/100 switch and WG302 wifi access point so it's a given for me to pick the GS108 to give me access to gigabit networking capabilities. It's so simple to use that even a old grampa can do it and it's plenty for the home networking. Even the price is excellent for the excellent building quality and a nice lifetime warranty on ProSafe components.
