Inexpensive. It worked nicely for a single year. It began freezing up, and random reboots. I believed I just had negative luck with this unit. But following reading critiques here, I'm not the only a single. In reality, it is a prevalent difficulty with the unit. My WGR614 has started showing similar symptoms. Don't buy Netgear, and you already know its tech help is useless.

Modest, attractive. Functions properly when it works. Runs hot. Don't even believe about an RMA. The Indian connection was incompetent, incredibly rude, and typically stupid and unhelpful. Took me an hour to get an RMA. RMA attempted to convince me to tune my settings for the switch, and I was doing some thing wrong. Worst RMA encounter in 20 years operating with computer systems. Doubt I'll acquire Netgear once again.

Affordable, performs... for awhile. Although power protected working with a UPS with AVR, properly ventilated and utilized way beneath capacity, this switch toasted itself much less than 2 years right after buy. Netgear's warranty doesn't cover it. Point just stopped operating a single day, carried out, no energy up, reset or LED's... nothing except much more ewaste from the east. thanks netgear :-(

Worked fantastic for more than a year or so ..ahead of starting to experience sporadic shut-off situation. Started to shut off sporatically for no cause, then progressively a lot more often. Now just about day-to-day. I unplug energy supply for a bit ..occasionally comes back on, sometimes doesn't. Is it overheating? Something else? Don't know ...but can no longer rely on my Netgear GS608 v2. -- To the trash heap fot it! (Note: I have 5 other sorts of Switches, mostly five-port selection (of a variety of mgr's, but mostly Netgear) I've had had a issue with these others ...just my Netgear GS608 ..which is the newest of my bunch. Just pulled out an old Gigabyte 8-way 10럼 switch to replace the GS608, and it went back to operate like a charm.)

This sucker is solid, cheap, and trustworthy.I've had it for a small below three years. It's possibly spent a year and a half up, a year in storage, then spent the last couple months operating robust. I use it on a mixed network 񡹨 and 100 speeds), with no detriment to the of speed of the fastest components.Quite merely, I'd acquire this sucker all more than once more if I was provided the chance! It's a bit hot in the course of operation. It isn't genuinely an challenge, contemplating that it's just as hot as other gig switches I've utilised. Buy it now. This sucker has served me effectively for years, never failed to carry out, and has survived two DSL modems dying. Thinking about that this sucker is set it and neglect it, the typical property user (or power user) shouldn't hesitate. The value has gone down substantially given that my acquire, which is the only issue I can see........What are you waiting for?

Purchased in May 2006. Nevertheless operating good. Connects at GB speeds with lengthy runs of CAT-5e, no issues. My XBOX, TIVO, and many PCs all play nice collectively utilizing this switch downstairs, and the five port version upstairs. The newer stuff hyperlinks up at GB speed, the older stuff at 100 MB. Its all good. It does get warm, so Im sure that it draws a bit of energy from your outlet 24ǝ. Cost has come down since I purchased it, but thats a plus for persons who are buying it now! Wonderful switch, Im very pleased. I wonder if theres any advantage in choosing a more recently released solution? Possibly a tiny reduced power draw? I count on to retain these as my household network backbone for some time.

Functions like it's supposed to. Connects at Gigabit speeds about 95% of the time, but the 5% could be the fault of laptop becoming plugged in. Rapid repair: unplug the network cable and plug back in. Network transfers are now restricted by the speed of my really hard drives.

Good small switch, uncomplicated to see LEDs and Runs a bit on the warm side. My Kill-a-watt rated it as 20W, so don't plan on stacking anything on best of it.Soon after about a year and a half of usage, started seeing wierd network problems, random ports dropping to 100mbit or not connecting at all. Switch reboot would solve the challenge for about 2-three weeks. Switch finally started to go; was corrupting packets on each my Ubuntu box and the windows systems as nicely. This a single is going in the trash now following about 2 years. I'd pass on this a single. There are far better, reduce energy switches out there. Next switch will be a managed one particular so I can greater see what's going on

Quite tiny and no noise at all. Setup is only two minutes and do not will need to connect any crossover cable. This device is intelligent to adjust to straight by means of cable. Can't find nothing! newegg is the ideal cyber vendor. I propose this vendor to every person. Placed order in the morning and was shipped out in the evening. Even, newegg shipped cost-free UPS ground and I received the package in 2 days. I can't find any cyber vendor that could be as finest as newegg! Bought some quite a few items from newegg and never ever getting let down by newegg. Thank you and will continue do enterprise with you.

Low-cost, worked effectively to commence with, 8-port gigabit connectivity. Very good switch till it died. After about two year the unit started to fail at gigabit speeds, devices which supported it would begin to bounce between one hundred-complete and 1000-full which slowly got worse. Would have RMA'd the unit but warranty repair service was practically the expense of purchasing a new switch. Prior to tossing the unit, I examined the unit I noticed some bulged capacitors and verified on-line the known challenge of cheap caps. Not certain if the affordable cap issue has been resolved or not but units manufactured in 2007 and early 2008 have been identified for this problem. If your unit has poor capacitors the best thing to do is to retain the switch in a cool space with a stable temperature and at least some air flow. This will slow the wear and tear on the unit, in common it is excellent for all gear but in particular to these which tend to have faulty capacitors.

Affordable gigabit switch Low end, prone to quirks To mavrc (and everyone else who doesn't know):Please realize that Cat5e is NOT intended for use with networks over one hundred Mbps. You will need to use Cat6 cables for 1,000 Mbps Ƒ Gbps) speed. Decide on a cable with excellent shielding as this speed is especially sensitive to interference, as well.

Comes with a eparate power provide, one less heat supply inside. Unit is too light, not sturdy. RMA'd and got me a GS108, which is also Netgear but far more sturdier and the lights are on same side as the sockets. Works great with CAT 6 shielded cables.

pretty inexpensive and shiny. Unreliable device. Ports run @ 1000 bps one day, then only 100 from then on. I've had 2 out of five ports fail this way. This is not the trusted Netgear I applied to know.

Simple to set up and worked passably well. Looks great. Dead and gone just a bit soon after a year. Not even a specter of its former self remains, just an empty ghostly white shell Somebody talked me into netgear since it was additional trustworthy than the competing brand I was thinking about. Wrong!

Looks nice 1 egg because it fails at its only function, which is becoming a gigabit switch. I bought this 6ቨ񳏆 from Newegg along with a Netgear figabit card for my older computer which didn't have a gigabit port. The router worked fine for a month or so and then wouldn't negotiate speeds appropriately soon after that. I would plug in a gigabit device and it would detect it as 100Mbps. I had to power cycle the switch and try unique ports to get it to recognize 1Gbps. Even the netgear card had challenges with it. I place it away and haven't utilised it in about two years but was searching by way of my newegg order history and decided to create a critique thinking of they still sell this piece of junk. DO NOT Buy.

Low cost - particularly with rebate Switch would not reliably establish gigabit links to devices. It would arbitrarily connect a link at only100mb alternatively of gigabit. I have a equivalent GS605 switch that has worked fantastic for various years so this was a main disappointment. Right after five days of aggravation with the GS608, I RMA'd it and returned it to Newegg for a refund.

Does what it says. Supplies fast connections with no the noise of a fan. Dies immediately after about one particular year. I've had two of these units. Both died following about a single year. I lost the connection on one port. After switching to an unused port, that also died. Ultimately, all ports are dead. The very same thing occurred with each units. Don't waste your dollars.
