Comment:
One thing I'll say about Gigabyte is they really understand how to leave a customer with a good impression of value and quality. Unboxing the card, the Zalman cooler immediately stood out at me. It's a very nice cooler, gives the card some heft and looks like it will do an amazing job at...well, cooling. The cooler is installed nice and tight, with no wiggle whatsoever. Yet the board shows almost no flex at all. Plastic covers on the video ports and SLI connector, and a proclamation on the box that only the most efficient, high endurance components were used on the board leave me with a sense that I've purchased a high quality product that will last. It's also nice that the card comes with DVI, VGA and HDMI connectors native on the board, with no need for dongles or adapters. The gold plated HDMI port is a nice touch.Performance wise, it's OK. I installed it in an Athlon II 250 (3.0ghz dual core) system with 2Gb DDR2 and....blah. Pretty low end. I used this to downgrade the system from a GTS250 because honestly I felt the GTS was being bottlenecked too much. Also saving the $70 was nice too. Initial performance test in CS:S Stress Test gives 170Fps average at Max Detail, 1600x900, 4xAA and 16xAF. The GTS scored 210Fps so I'm thinking yep, bottleneck. I once owned an 8600GT though, and I feel this card performs better. Maybe it's the faster clocks, improved drivers or better supporting hardware I have now. Overall I would recommend this card to casual gamers, those who play older games or someone with a slightly older system that might not be the best host to a high end gaming card. The slight premium price over other bargain basement models would seem worthwhile to anyone interested in quality or longevity.
