Cons: -Price is a bit high compared to X2 and X3 chips
Pros: +Low power/heat for a quadcore+Works in the AM2+ motherboard I all ready had (with BIOS up)+Can be passively cooled (nice for HTPC)+Can overclock to 2.9 without temperature change |
I replaced a 45w 2350BE with this quadcore into an HTPC/gaming machine. It allowed for a little overclock with no thermal increase, and is being cooled passively with a Scythe Mini Ninja (two case fans mind you). I had to update the BIOS for my Gigabyte 780g S2H board (rev. 1.0) to the latest available, but the compatibility is there with older AM2+ boards.The benefits are pretty decent for some games as well as multi-threaded encoding of video coming in. Also, software upconversion of some media files through FFDshow/Avisynth has been greatly increased.There are a few X2 chips that can have their other cores unlocked, which might be better bargain...but this chip does it all as is.
