This PC (9500 + GA-MA74G-S2 mobo) is used for experimentation. It has no trouble running Vista-64; teamed with a recent hard drive & 4GB of RAM, it would make for a quite respectable standard home PC - with a little future-proofing tossed in due the quad core. I would make all my low to medium-low cost builds based on this CPU. For those on a budget, it's by far the best choice. |

Bought this because I do a lot of video encoding and since it was on sale for $100 so I want to compare it to my E2180 h3.2Ghz....Video encoding with Ripbot264 is simply amazing with 4 cores instead of 2 eventho the speed is about 1GHZ faster, maybe cache size also played a role...btw I have TLB fix turned off and no problem yet..so I think this TLB thing is simply overhyped. |

4 cores v 2.2GHZ is more than enough for decent gaming. Most games nowadays rely more and more on the GPU so this Phenom is a jem. Got it on a bundle sale for near $100, can't beat that. Left 4 Dead and all otrher Half-Life related games run flawlessly and basic OS tasks are speedy and responsive. A great introductory/performance CPU. |

purchased the 150$ bundle with RAM and CPU cooler. No complaints. Not really noticing the difference between this and my AMD 5000+ Black Edition but then again, I have no complaints for the price |

can't complain, got it bundled with 4gb of ram and an AC cooler for only $150 on sale. Works great for a htpc =] a bit of an overkill may I say. |

Cons: Worst quad core around. Doesn't work when cold, has plb bug (lose 15% performance if using the fix by patching BIOS). Had one that was DOA, returned it to my retailer

Don't get this for yourself, unless you are a multi-tasker on a budget that doesn't care about performance, as long as your system doesn't hiccup. This is one of the worst but least expensive quad cores around (with a price match, of course). Buy it for someone else, say, if you're building it for someone who thinks all quad cores are the same. Make them happy by giving them a quad core for a low priceIf buying yourself a budget computer, I'd suggest the lowest Phenom II, or even a C2D if you don't mind finding another mobo. |
These processors are a steal for $100. Its the cheapest quad core! Although it produces lots of heat, the performance is cut by 15ish% as they are B2 stepings. so its like running these at 1.8ghz
