I have 8 of these Toshiba 3tb disks in a hardware raid 6 array for months now.Zero issues.Running deduplication on them really hammers away at them, but there holding strong.

Not as fast as other 7200rpm drives. But it works just fine for mass storage purposes.

Pros: I have 4 of these in my Freenas box. Been working great for a few months, no issues. I bought them over the competitors specifically because they are made by Hitachi which were the old IBM drives. High reliability. Going to add 2 more shortly.

Great drives, looking forward to adding more drives to my array!

Cons: A bit loudNot as fast as I thought it'd be

Pros: Affordable
Comment:
This model is signifcantly slower compared to the three Seagate Barracuda 3TB's I currently own. 30-40 MB/s slower according to HD Tune's read test. However, I've read that the early Barracudas are much faster than the ones they're shipping now. That being said, I didn't buy this for performance, just to use as backup storage. However I've found the Toshiba is also somewhat louder as well. While I don't regret my purchase, if I had to do it over again I'd probably go with the Seagate.

Cons: finding where to rma this product if ever it came to.. is a little tricky

Pros: It has the essence of Hitachi, not seagate

3tb for 119.99, great for storage, would purchase again if the price dipped to 115$+tax included

Cons: - None that I can think of

Pros: - For $120 this is a steal- Quiet operation- On par with other drives in this category
Comment:
This drive has a very appealing price point. On sale you can probably snag this for even cheaper. The price is less than other drives such as WD Green, which is good because you're still getting competitive performance.

Got it in sale at 119.00 $. Very happy with my purchased.I have tested the HD with appropriate software because of some bad review elsewhere, but found nothing bad. I expect good longevity for this HD. Use it for backup and X-Plane setup.Keep My Flight Simulator X on WD caviar Black however.

I have a pair of these in my media server in RAID Mirror. I have not done a speed test cause the network cards / switch are the limiting factor. So far these Hitachi drives are doing okay, but

Cons: I checked warranty and at first I had probs due to site. Eventually I saw that I had a little less than two years warranty left. Warranty goes from date of manufacture, so try not to get old stock.

Pros: Super sale price for 3T drive!I got two and both passed all tests - conveyance, short and long.In a dock, the drive went up to 36'C during testing. In a Coolermaster drive cage with weak fan, temps stay at 30'C even with huge backup transfers.
Comment:
I am not seeing anything concerning in logs - such as the relocations with Seagates or the head parking issues with WD Greens. All my Seagates and WD greens(wdidle3 to remove head parking) are still working, but I wasn't totally filled with confidence.Despite everything, if your drives pass on errors then you are scrooged. So use: Hitachi Drive Fitness Test is free hard drive diagnostic software available for use on most drives available today. The Hitachi Drive Fitness Test software is available as an ISO file which can be burned to a CD and then used to boot the computer. See the installation instructions from Hitachi in the link below for details.Note: You do not need to own a Hitachi hard drive to use Drive Fitness Test (DFT).Being a Linux user I test with GSmartControl, then start Krusader and checksum some big files. Then I copy them back and forth and see that checksums match. I am checking the firmware not the surface, so I don't initially spend many hours checking the whole surface area of the drive. That worked so I then used LuckyBackup which didn't bring up any errors either.I can't see any problems so I'm ordering another couple since sale price is extended. As always, all sorts of issues can come up, so backups on a different brand of drive are important.

Cons: -not quite as fast as WD blacks or Seagate 3TB drives.-warranty not as good as Blacks.

Pros: -cheap per terabyte-7200 rpm, 64 mb cache (despite wrong description). no 5400 rpm green power crap:)-no head parking, so no delay when accessing after inactivity-quiet. no sounds whatsoever during 100% activity
Comment:
This is a "rebranded" Hitachi 7K3000, supposedly a 3 platter drive. Good price, good specs. Not as fast as some of its competitors, but it's a good compromise between speed, price, and warranty--best overall of all the current 3 TB drives imo, unless you want to spend nearly double for a Black. Zeroed the entire drive twice--took about 15 hours, but feel more confident loading it up out of the box (actually, it's been sitting unopened on my shelf for a month). I'll update  this review if something happens, but I'm reasonably sure I'm in the clear for now.Reads and writes around 180 mb/s sequentially. Idles 34c without any real airflow. My other 7200s (Seagate and some WDs) are behind a 230mm fan and idle 1c higher, although they're stacked 5 high (HAF 932). Peak was 36c during aforementioned stress testing. Room temp set at 72f.

Cons: First one was DOA! I had a hard time finding RMA and warranty info on the toshiba site.

Pros: Cheapest 3TB drive I could find.Quiet.
Comment:
This is a Hitachi drive with a Toshiba sticker. Hitachi have a good history for reliability. I hope the first one I received DOA was an exception.

Cons: It is actually a bit slower than the previous Hitachi 3TB HDS723030ALA640 and a bit noisier.

Pros: Large capacity, 1TB platter design, fast sequential read and write on HDtune. Quiet! Food value! Two years warranty. No issue so far.
Comment:
Pick up a pair of this. This is actually a Hitachi drive HDS723030BLE640(Made in China) - a newer design of 7K3000 with 3X1 TB platter and 4K sector. On HDtune, it seems to have very high sequential read and write about 180MB/s. However, on Linux using hdparm is about 150MB/s. It is still a very fast drive.I also have the previous model HDS723030ALA640 (Made in Thailand) 5 platter and 512 sector. On HDtune sequential read and write about 150MB/s and on linux hdparm about 150MB/s. It seems old and new model can put on the same raid without problem. This Toshiba drive seems to be a bit slower in practical use that the older HDS723030ALA640. However, I use this in my home build NAS, it does not seem to matter as the max. transfer rate for 1Gb LAN is about 110MB/s anyway. I believe it is way better than Seagate drive despite they are both Made in China. I have zero success on Seagate drives and I believe the Seagate desktop drives are not mean for 24/7 operation.
