Works great and doesn't make to much noise. Placing the drive in and taking it out is extremely uncomplicated. This has a 7 pin sata plug as an alternative of a 15 sata plug. The guidelines show and talk about a 15 pin sata plug. Luckily there is also a molex plug. Nevertheless, this appears like a key manufacturing mistake and makes me wonder how long this factor will final. The error appears to have existed for at least five months judging by the reviews. Why hasn't this been corrected. This is relatively low-cost and the only reason for the 3 rating was for the power plug.

These racks are strong and nicely constructed. They have performed devoid of problem for weeks. I have a VMWare server that I use in the classes that I teach and I have had no issue swaping drives in and out of this program to launch the VMs I want. Great solution at a fantastic value. I genuinely haven't identified any cons however. I dealt a lot with these kind of swapable racks and this is by far the very best one I have discovered for the cash.

Basic and low cost The fan runs constantly, with or with no a drive, essential in the on or off position. Ignore what the description/manual implies, that fan is generally operating. The circuit board that holds the connector for the drive is held "solidly" by two screws by means of the circuit board, and is thusly flimsy and inflexible. This item DOES NOT work with my old 1st generation WD Raptors, i'm guessing due to the fact the raptors do not conform precisely to what ever regular was adopted for SATA connector position (though, for the life of me, i can\'t measure a distinction involving a newer drive which functions, and my old raptors, which do not function...) I don't have a lot of self-assurance in this trayless idea. Drive connectors weren't meant for repeated connecting and disconnecting. Sadly, the other mobile rack designs where the mating connector is in a tray tend to use poor connectors and sacrifice speed. What's much better? Slower drive that lasts longer, or a quicker drive that you danger damaging the connector on?

At least they ran a single year. I had these in a RAID5 backup server for a single year. Someone alerted me that server had a burning smell coming from it. Upon examining the racks I identified that all the fans are generating a horrible noise and one rack had failed totally and had roasted. Now I have to replace them all. What fun.

Fabulous for disk imaging. I would truly choose if there was just a knob, not a key for my application. On the other hand, you have to have a lock since the click latch doesn't seem as powerful as you may expect. Hot swap operates. At least in Vista and on one of my controllers (not all of them). I don't feel the variety of power (whether it uses a molex or SATA power cable out of the box) is the issue.

Functions effectively for various months now. Keeps drive fairly cool (or at least not obtaining hot). Applied it to swap a couple of drives so far. Has its personal led so you can see drive access. None Fantastic rack if you want to swap drives as soon as in awhile. But I would not advise if you had to swap drives on day-to-day or weekly basis mainly because I don't think the connectors had been made for high usage.

This rack tends to make it straightforward to use a five.25" bay for a difficult drive. It also enables for a SATA II connection, permitting for 3Gb/sec. transfers. Other comparable rack bays can only help SATA I Ƒ.5Gb/sec.). The rack also allows for two various power connectors (molex and SATA). The hard drive slides proper into the bay and is secured by the latch and crucial.I like this model better than the Vantec racks I have. Although this isn't a difficulty for me, some folks could want to lug a hard drive from one laptop or computer to yet another. This rack for that doesn't permit for that. There's no enclosing sled to put the difficult drive in. Consequently if you program on transporting your difficult drive you'll need to have carry a static bag, and other protective gear for your difficult drive when transporting.

Affordable, does the job if you have molex energy connectors obtainable. Exactly where the 15-pin SATA energy connector is supposed to be there is a second 7-pin SATA information connector (?!). You can see it in the pictures; it's the yellow connector. The pamphlet "manual" shows that's where the 15-pin SATA energy connector is supposed to be. This has got to be an error in manufacturing. I have molex power connectors offered so I'm not going to cry too significantly but this is stupid. That's why I'm only giving it two eggs.

Just what I was searching for: this goes in a desktop's 5.25" drive bay, and can be utilized to swap one three.five" internal SATA hard drive for a different, as for backup storage or for physically transporting large files on a tough drive among two different PCs. Incredibly solid construction on the frame of the rack that tends to make it feel additional pricey than the value, and suggests it will hold up properly. Working with this, contrary to the item title on Newegg, I can not hot-swap drives... I ought to shut down, swap, and boot up once more to use a unique SATA-I drive in this rack with WinXP. I saw in an on-line enable forum that SATA drives powered with a Molex plug, which this rack makes use of (probably simply because it demands to energy a fan and blue light on the front as effectively as the SATA drive) and not a SATA energy connector, are not hot swappable. I'm not positive the fan will hold up extended-term-- and the fan runs even if there's no drive in the rack. The scanty instructions have the incorrect diagram of the back panel and there's no on the net help info at Koutech's internet site typical of their other merchandise on Newegg. (The directions show a SATA power connector, which this rack does not have-- it only has a Molex power connector not shown in the directions.)

I had an open 5.25" Drive bay and I wanted to run a SATA drive in it. This fit the want perfectly. It looks good and even comes with keys to lock the drive in. For some this will be a con, you can't use a SATA power connector with the unit. This has been well documented, so think about oneself warned. Its funny since even the image on the box shows the regular SATA 7 pin. No other thoughts, its just cool. It would make an awesome hot swappable media drive for anyone. The way I'm employing it, it won't be an issue. I'm going to wait and see how it holds up, as it will be running 24ǝ뤅

Simple to install in desktop. Four supplied screws and a SATA information cable and a power cable that are not supplied will do it. Slip in a three.five" SATA drive, and you are in small business. Can pop open the door of the rack and switch drives in a couple of seconds. None noticed. Excellent way to make a dual boot technique with each and every method on a unique drive or to move and shop significant quantities of data at high speed.

Good building, Strong feel. Easy installation. Key doesn't stay in the lock. May be simple to lose. If the key would lodge in barrel lock it would be uncomplicated to come across. Just what I necessary for further drives.

fantastic solid feel. small fan, doesnt make alot of noise. easy opening door. effortless to get the HD in and out. lock doesnt preserve the door shut at all. so the lock is a huge waste if you are looking for one to preserve locked. also the door did come off of its hinge. but it was an effortless fix. I took the back board off, and now its just hanging behind it, so i could plug the HD straight into my comp. and i dont plan on hot swapping HDs. so i created it a permant drive bay. lead to my 2nd HD wouldnt fit with the initially one particular. so i got this instead of a new case.

A lot greater construction that I had believed it would be. I ordered four of these for a RAID 5 and had them up and installed in no time. Construction is good, hot-swap ability is excellent. Only has a MOLEX power adapter on the back. I had to get some SATA to MOLEX power adapter plugs to accomodate my PSU. I will continue to use these for all my servers, they are straightforward and sturdy. Thanks newegg!

Before I purchased this product I was concerned about the top quality of the construction of the bay. I was very pleasantly surprised! The construction of the bay is rock solid. The locking mechanism also feels solid as nicely. The bay frame is thick and really sturdy. Nothing feels loose.I also had concerns about fan noise but there is not significantly. My HDs are considerably louder than the fans. I wish it didn't have any fans but they are quiet enough Also the bay does have status lights on the outside of the bay which are difficult to see in the picture.

Good addition for swapping drives in between computers. Thinking of gettting 1 for all my PC's The door isn't the strongest, but as lengthy as you don't abuse it, it should last rather a even though. I purchased the more affordable version and had to RMA as the fan was generating a lot of noise. This unit worked perfectly.

Solid meaty construction, good front-panel look, lockable. Drives eject and mount smoothly. Works flawlessly with WinXP, Ubuntu Linux, and LinuxMCE. Instructions could be a bit clearer, but there's not a lot that could go wrong. Bought two to start with, acquiring a third on this pass. Terrific for users like me with numerous personalities. :)

Effortless to install, Straightforward to use. Good Rack. Keeps Drive Cool. None so far This is the finest Rack I have used. I have been working with them in each and every system I work with, but this is the best ever. I love the idea that all I have to do is open the front door to alter the drive. In other people I have to pull the drive out, then open one more case to get to the drive. With this not an problem.

Worked very first try, on both my mobo's data connection and my add-in card sata controller. Not a noisy as my other components. HDD not hot right after extended use. Flimsy material, but it holds. The very first plug I attempted was the eSATA, thought it was broken just before I found the right plug. Directions - read 'em. No genuine complains besides the create excellent, but then the price is correct. Get it now.

Given it's cost it has worked out nicely so far. Apparently nobody here uses SAS or you'd recognize that the second SATA connector is for SAS controllers. They utilize two SATA connectors for one SAS drive. So far it's worked nicely with Perc five/i and five/ir. Not the best create good quality but taking into consideration the price, that's kind of a given.
