Really reliable. Performs with SATA 3. Effortless to install. Trayless style is so much much less complicated to switch dives. Unit is shallow so it does not interfere with other components in the case. None. Other units might be less expensive, but they break down. Get this unit, Odds are, you won't be disappointed.

What a wonderful way to image to another HD and hold in the fire protected. -zip-nada At times hot swappiing will not operate, but that is the laptop, not the rack.

Simple swapping of drives, I have tosses some older 120GB SATAI and SATAII drives, 1TB Drives, 1.5TB drives and tons of others in and out with out any hook-up troubles at all. All the drives I have slid in and out went with out a hitch Ought to have gotten Far more! If you have a excellent cooling chassis, it will pull air into the front and more than the drives. I am using the ones I have in an Antec 900 Chassis with NO front HDD/Fan Trays installed, only 1 side 120mm the rear 120mm and the best 220mm. All bays save 1 for DVD/RW Drive are filled, WHS shows the drives operating at a nice and cool 81.1F. They are all 1TB WD Blacks and I am loving it! Am obtaining a lot more when I can for my gaming and editing PCs.

I found out that to have the KF-1000 hot swapable you need to have AHCI active in your BIOS. In my case it was not active in BIOS when I constructed the laptop and then installed W7. To repair this issue you require to go to support.microsoft.com/kbRead the aspect about "Let me fix it myself". I did this and rebooted my pc. W7 then installed the drivers for all of my SATA installed hardware. I then had to reboot and now the KF 1000 is hot swapable and I don't have to reboot everytime I back up my pc. Just remember to repair the problem in W7 ahead of you modify the settings in BIOS. I tried changing the BIOS to ACHI initial and W7 would not load. Fix very first, then change BIOS and let W7 load. none

I really like it no a lot more opening case to swap drives I have 4 hardrives I test unique OS,s on win xp sp2, win xpsp3, win 7 x86, and Leopord "HACHINTOSH"now I can very easyly swap out hd,s and let the testing commence For the guy having difficulty run windows 7, It is your Bio,s this operates with any OS I have employed! I did have trouble running two of them on a ABIT IP 35 an IX38 motherboards but it was just a bios concern! ABIT is now gone so no much more problems!

I purchased one of these more than 1 year ago, and a different one particular three months ago. Drive does just what you need, except for cooling, and does it well. No issues with either of my units. They operate as made. Well built. Qood high quality. Definitely encouraged. Swap in unique OS environments, Win XP, Mac OS X (hackintosh), Linux, FreeBSD, OpenSolaris, like obtaining distinct machines for the price of one. Use a specific OC HD for testing and benchmarking your system and so forth..or backup your internal HD with a different HD swaped in. Functions greatest as a "cold swap" drive bay. I.e. turn machine off to swap, rather than "hot swap" which requires distinct operting systems like Vista and Motherboards that support hot swapping. 1. Drive gets hot inside when working with WD Caviar Black higher efficiency drives. While drive remains under the 50 deg C temp, still runs at 46 deg C or higher at occasions. So, a cooling answer is recommended. I bought Evercool Lander SHDC-E Aluminum HDD cooler from Newegg to sit below the Kingwin and blow air up onto the drive. Functions. But not perfect. The tight space severely limits the airflow that the 120mm 2000rpm 80cfm fan can generate. Doesn't actually blow 80cfm air when surrounding drive bays are all filled. But, does cool drive a couple degrees, so better than absolutely nothing. two. The upper wire in the Kingwin that presses down on the HD interferes with the removal of "some" Really hard Drives. The loop on the wire catches on the prime of the HD making it difficult to take away. This is mildly annoying. e.g. the WD 250 GB WD2500KS inserts and removes smoothly, but the WD 500 GB WD5000AAKS drive has a "matching loop" in the ridge of case on prime that precisely hooks the Kingwin wire loop. Kingwin could add a fan to this unit, to cool drive. Lately, a comparable unit "MRA-201-FAN Coolgear" emerged on the scene with fans attached at bottom. Nonetheless, I've not found any critiques on this new unit and am sceptical about how effectively thoese flimsy fans function. The Evercool SHDC-E has a effective fan and nonetheless can't cool the HD much more than a few degrees since of the tight space restrictions, even though the potential to have the drive bay below empty may help in making air offered to blow upto the HD base with the Coolgear unit, and so supply an benefit more than the Kingwin + Evercool SHDC-E resolution. To run HD in the Kingwin 24ǝ on intensive apps, I suggest a cool room airconditioned to assist the cooling, otherwise very best use is for temporary HD operations, like testing, backups, short utilizes of the Pc and so forth..

Like Joe said, right after working with this solution, I will under no circumstances go back to internal mounting. These issues are incredible. I at the moment have 1 mounted in my dell xps (gen three) system, but when i make my new desktop, Ill just get 1 for each and every drive (about 3-five). I highly reccomend this to anyone. None just be wary of the "hot swap" function. This device doesnt automatically make your drives hot swapable, there are no smarts to this drive holder. Your motherboard needs to have that feature.

Inexpensive The disk activity light demands an "adapter" (plugs with wires) to connect across the back rather of being built into backplane. Without having a fan my disks run so hot I can\'t touch them.

-Truly rapidly and easy swap bay. Each and every drive I personal slips suitable in devoid of difficulties. I've even employed it as a semi permanent drive bay and it operates just fine for that as well. -it's created to mount with screws straight to the case, I got it to operate with my Antec P180's rail system, but it's a flimsy mount.-It doesn't have a energy button so I'm also paranoid to actually attempt hot swapping with out shutting down the Pc. I gave it four eggs because of the mounting system.

The fact that this swaps the drive itself with no cartridge was a key bonus for me. I set this up with two hard drives which I alternate for backing up my major machine. It operates fantastic for this. It is also good that the rack is open to let air flow. And there is no powered fan that tends to make noise or quits working and tends to make your drive too hot. It is a little flimsy. My case has rails on the drive bays and the rails don't seem to match as snugly with this rack as I might like, but it fits firmly adequate that I can slide the drives in and out without having a dilemma. This hot swap rack is nicely worth the cost.

None so far. Excellent cost. Straightforward install. Fast shipping. Thanks, Newegg!

This "tray-less" concept is straightforward and appealing however very undependable. It seems that lowering the expense of manufacture was the driving issue in this design and style. The 7 and 15 pin SATA connectors had been never ever created to be "removable" connectors. The tray-less style plugs and unplugs the drive at the SATA connections. I have owned this tray for much less than a year and rarely take away my hard drive. Recently I noticed that my OS was freezing up. At 1st I thought it was the OS settings but I quickly realized that the drive had grow to be unseated when it was still LOCKED into the tray! Mind you, I rarely eliminate the tough drive, it just vibrated itself loose. I swiftly moved the drive back to the common bay and did a ran a file program verify/repair. I'm just going to throw this "tray-significantly less" rack in the trash. If data is becoming written to a drive that becomes disconnected ,the file method could quickly become corrupted. There's no way I'm going to danger information loss simply because of this silly device. If you definitely need removable drives, I suggest spending a tiny extra cash and finding some good quality aluminum/steel trays with robust connectors that are really created for removal. If you end up buying this "tray-significantly less" rack you're just throwing your cash and information away.

Uncomplicated to install, tends to make swapping drives a snap. Decent quality supplies. Appears cool in the case if that matters to anyone. Latch seems a small weak and may well not stand up to continuous openings/closings. Activity LED does not work on one of my tough drives, but that may possibly be the age of my drive rather than the rack. I'm careful with my items so the latch challenge actually isn't a massive deal to me. Any person purchasing 1 of these will want to make positive they don't abuse the latch.

Simple, elegant, does it's job. I like this more than the five.25 bay options that have the sleds. I have but to find a sled that I liked for a decent price tag. These are super inexpensive, and do the job nicely. They could be a small sturdier. Not that it is a dilemma, just treat it gently, and it'll be fine. An choice for some common fans would have been good, but not a major deal. The front is vented, so if your case fans are undertaking their job, they will pull air over the drive. I have applied a lot of of Kingwin's merchandise over the years, and normally they have been decent. When I saw this model, not requiring a sled, and super low cost, it was a no brainer. I would like to see them offer you an all-metal version of this. I would pay up to thirty-five dollars for an all-metal version, with keylock and activity leds.

I have not discovered any challenges with HDD's or various OS's. I can play around all I want and not hose my principal OS. SATA drives are inexpensive these days, play with Linux or OSX and not be concerned about primary drive....

I was surprised at how effectively-constructed these are, thinking about they're so low-cost. Really strong-feeling metal, and the drive enclosure is suspended on anti-vibration mounts. They're also really compact, leaving a lot of space to spare in my case. Fully tool-free of charge - you don't have to use the latch essential unless you want to. May not play nicely with toolless five.25" drive bays. Re: 8ቩ񳏈 overview: I also have a Cooler Master Centurion and ran into the identical issue, but worked around it by obtaining some longer screws so it's now secured on each sides. Out of 2 hard drives, a single of them is a tight fit, so I use the latch crucial just to make certain it doesn't pop open.

Fantastic product for anybody who desires to run any selection of OS while leveraging their current Pc hardware. As generally, Newegg service was top-notch and delivery was quick. None however.

I was rebuilding my file server lately and wanted a better system of handling the RAID array drives. This issue fits excellent! Due to how it is built it can appear a bit flimsy with not installed. The moment in the case and all 4 screws are holding it securely it stiffens up quite nicely and as expected. The open style is amazing. Other individuals which use a tray, I keep feeling like it's a coffin for the drive due to heat buildup. With the open air design cooling is substantially much easier. No internal fans is a fantastic factor. I've had A number of types of racks and time soon after time the fans go out in really brief order and either quit working with out warning, or whine like a banshee with a high sufficient tone to split your ear drum. The latch... I have fears about the latch.. Considering that there is so substantially pressure pushing against the racks door once shut due to the design, it feels as if it may well pop. So far no issues, but those who swap drives typically could have challenges. For the expense, it'd be just as straightforward to preserve one particular spare on hand just in case something DOES break, so that you can swiftly replace it. Nevertheless be far better off than dumping cash into far more high priced ones only to have the fans die. If you're worried about cooling still, I'm positive there's a way of mounting a case fan somewhere so that it directs air flow above the drives. Else make confident there is a unfavorable pressure ratio in your case so that air is pulled in via the front vents.

Works great for swapping drives in/out. I'm working with Vista, so I shut down just before I actually swap anything, but it is still substantially greater than taking my whole case apart to connect/disconnect a drive. Apart from, this issue looks good in my Silverstone TJ09! A bit on the flimsy side. I would have paid much more for much better hardware and a good black aluminum faceplate. No fan cooling possibilities. I was in fact searching for a) hot-swapping remedy, b) drive cooling remedy, c) looks cool in my machine. This does a) and c), but nothing at all for b). I couldn't locate anything that did all 3 (I don't like the 5.25" enclosures with tiny fans... the reviews recommend the fans aren't trusted), so I decided to go with this unit due to the fact at least it isn't surrounded by a box that will keep heat in. Drive temps are around low 40's C, so fairly normal. I would have provided it 5 eggs if it came with a bracket to attach typical size fans. So the actual benefit of the KF-1000: have you ever observed a Honda Civic with a hood scoop and rear spoiler? Yeah, it's sort of like that.

Incredibly easy installation, the rubber vibration dampeners are very great. The enclosure permits you to insert a drive with no screws and "ejects" it for you when you open it. Absolutely nothing actually, works excellent!! The dampeners appear to make the mounting a small loose but once totally mounted there is no poblem. I feel this is a fantastic item, I will deffinately be shopping for numerous a lot more.

Simple of use, hot swap is wonderful, no fan (aka: no fan that will die and make a ton of noise), basic style Feels low-cost.. not a tight fit close to drive so the drive vibrates a bit and makes noise... not to the point of annoying.. but to the point of not wanting to retain the drive in there all day and night. Following getting this, I seriously couldn't live with no it. I use it with by backup drives that I can now use like they are tapes backups.
