Cons: The trackpad is a tad small and can make some of the multi-touch gestures difficult to complete. The texture of the trackpad also isn't as smooth as it could be, and causes a little too much friction, but it's negligible.
Pros: Fantastic build quality, and it's so thin! And surprisingly, the battery actually does last the advertised 8 hours. The Dolby Sound Room tech really shines as well, especially when used with headphones, it sounds fantastic! It also stays incredibly cool and (somehow) silent, a combination almost unheard of to this day (no pun intended). The entire laptop never seems to exceed room temperature and never comes anywhere close to becoming uncomfortable to work with. All the while the fan almost hardly ever spools up, and when it does, it is still one of the quietest laptop fans I have ever heard. |
So far I am thoroughly impressed by the Timeline 5810T-8982. I honestly didn't think it was possible for a Windows laptop to really last 8 hours on battery. But here we are, with a laptop actually lasting 8 hours with moderate use. Under heavy use, with WiFi on and brightness turned up, the battery life decreases a little to roughly 5 or 6 hours. I don't think you'll ever get any less than 4 hours out of this unit though.The screen is really nice as well. I was a bit disappointed with it out of the box, but after calibrating the colors and contrast, it looks MUCH nicer now.The ULV SU3500 processor is more than enough to handle the tasks I have been throwing at it... many people are skeptical, but fear not, you shouldn't encounter any lag. The only thing it can't do is play HD YouTube videos smoothly. They will play, but with dropped frames (thank Adobe for their lack of progress with GPU acceleration in Flash).I don't regret purchasing this notebook in the slightest. It is very well built, with very modern hardware and the "chiclet" style keyboard is a pleasure to type on with no flex. I wouldn't hesitate recommending this notebook to anyone, especially at this price point. You can't go wrong. Very pleased and I look forward to using my Timeline in class this September (especially as I watch everyone else plugging their laptops in!) This review was modfied by poster @ 08-17-09 09:53 PM
