I've been intriqued by the Intel Atom for a couple years, each as an HTPC and as a NAS/server platform.I ultimately broke down and constructed up an Ubuntu Server ten.04 LTS for backups and fileserving for my Windows and Macintosh network employing this motherboard. Ubuntu installed like a charm, everything identified and configured.I believed the IPMI would be interesting, but have not played with it yet.I have not configured any RAID volumes. I haven't settled on a precise backup/archive/fileserver technique but. But I actually like the flexibility of obtaining 6 SATA ports.Great Supermicro excellent, components, layout.Using the laptop SO-DIMM DDR3 1333 memory is just cool, and rapidly! Two gigabit ethernet ports! I have them both going into the similar switch. Don't know if this helps or hurts, but seems cool. Price tag is a bit high, but you get an enterprise quality motherboard. And you have the potential to place with each other a tiny SOHO server/NAS for about the identical value as a a lot much less endowed turnkey system.Thoughts the proprietary kind factor. Thank you Neweggers for purchasing so substantially stuff! I almost went with a Newegg combo technique primarily based on an Atom D510/DDR2 800 motherboard, but the combo case was sold out by the time I went to hit the "Send It to My Property" button. Right after the initial aggravation of losing my program, I did a tiny investigation and ended up with this newer, faster system.Method:Ubuntu Server ten.04 LTSCritical 4GB ƒ x 2GB) 204-Pin DDR3 SO-DIMM DDR3 1333 (PC3 10600) Laptop Memory Model CT2KIT25664BC1339SUPERMICRO CSE-731D-300B Black Pedestal Server Chassis with Card Reader w/ 300W Energy Supply two External 5.25" Drive BaysSeveral SATA drives that have been not getting applied.

IPMI/KVM over IP, Intel NICs, six SATA Ports, Intel Core Logic. Very good Expandability. A lot more energy with much less energy consumption than the prior generation D510 powered- boards FlexATX rather of Mini ITX, but not enough of a problem to take an egg off. This makes my third X7SPE, and there will be a fourth. The very first one particular was the preceding generation D510 processor running an iSCSI target flawlessly till I replaced it with this board. The D510 is now undertaking Firewall Duty. I have 1 running AD/DNS/DHCP/TFTP, an additional operating iSCSI, and I will be dedicating the fourth to File and Print Server duties. Much less than 40 watts CPU power consumption for the lot of them. All are booting from Intel X25-M 40GB SSDs for even much less power consumption.

Low energy consumption.Atom + IPMI + dual Intel NIC's. Reasonably priced. None Functions nicely with Untangle 8.. Making use of 4gb of ddr3, an 80+ rated Seasonic pwr provide and an SSD energy consumption is precisely 20W.

Exceptional Board. IPMI, Low Power Consumption, Atom D525, 6 Sata ports, Internal USB port The Motherboard is in a Flex ATX form factor. It lines up with Mini ITX mounting points. If your using a case that's only created for Mini ITX, the board might be too big.Picky about RAM Main use is for an UNRAID server. I can add up to 14 drives with a SuperMicro addon card: AOC-SASLP-MV8. The board has an internal USB port which you can use to install your OS. IPMI comes in handy and permits for a fully headless install (only have a power and ethernet cable running from the case). There are also mobile applications accessible to access IPMI from your phone (which gives you power control and essential stats like temperature, voltages, etc). I use IPMI Touch for iOS; I'm sure there is an Android equivalent. Utilizing Critical 2 x 2GB DDR3: CT2KIT25664BC1339
