and what do I use for? I use it as the primary drive for the operating system and specific applications; shutdown, push the button and replace it with another that has the operating system and different applications. Separating stuff like this means that I can control the pc without having to load everything onto one drive; consequently, I have one drive for the internet, another for multimedia, another for games, another for a different operating system, etc. |

Does not work! The quality of the product is very good as are the supposed features but the hot swapping feature does not work! The only way Windows XP/SP3 recognizes the drive is when you reboot the machine. The PC will not recognize the drive if PC is already running and you insert the drive into the insertion rack. |

Upon opening the package, the manual included in the box featured the tiniest print imaginable so the instructions weren't the easiest to follow. I installed the 3.5'' insertion bay into my open floppy drive rack, it sits crooked in the case, but oh well. When I attempted inserting the 2.5'' enclosure into the insertion rack, it wouldn't fit. The drive door was blocking it so I had to file the doorway down so the enclosure would fit! The enclosure itself is the sole redeeming factor for me personally because of its SATA connectors outside of the case. I use it as an enclosure for an XBOX360 hard drive that I thought was broken, but because of the connectors I can connect it to my 360's Hard Drive port. Watch out though, because if you use the product the way it was intended, it overheats VERY quickly. I opened the enclosure to put in a different hard drive and found many of the solder joints on the pcb had overheated and melted down, yet no great damage has been sustained thus far. |

Cons: - e-sata and/or firewire aswell would have been nice

What the below reviewer listed is bang on. The drive does rattle in the case a wee bit, but it isn't bothering me enough to fix it. Better than fitting to tight. As well as if you were to use the drive with the internal mounts I could see the side getting scratched up easily after time.The power cable is not necessary to use when at a desktop or notebook computer with standard 5v USB ports I should also add.One other things is this unit also performs flawlessly with OSX, which is what I use it with. My Macbook Pro.5 well deserved stars. |

Vantec makes good stuff, and this is no exception. Works great and the quality of the case, the cables, and the interface is excellent. Have to buy a second one now, for my office computer. |

Cons: --Drive rattled when I bought it--Very pricey
Pros: --Super fast with direct SATA to SATA interface--Also compatible with USB--Comes with modular 5.25 and 3.5 adaptors--Very well built Comment:
When I first got this drive it rattled in the case, but it was remedied when I put two strips of tape along either rail. Now the drive is in there very solidly. The aluminum is a nice touch and the drive fits well in the provided, rugged, carrying case. Although, I could see it getting scratched if you keep sliding it in and out of the drive bay, but if that's the price you pay for SATA speeds, I will take it. It's so fast, it makes sense to use it for a full time OS drive and remove it for security when you're not using it. |
I already had 3, for 2 years and hot swapping works fine. Never had problem with. 2 sata and 1 pata. I'd like one more to try it with a SSD for Windows system.
