Excellent value for this type of Tv Tuner. From plugging the device in to watching Television in Windoze Media Center took about 15-20 mins which incorporated the time to do a complete channel scan and initial WMC setup possibilities. As with 99.99% of USB devices nowadays Windows 7 was capable to install the device nearly as fast as I could plug it in. USB means I can use this on my desktop or laptop which doubles its worth to me. Thanks to ClearQAM I can watch twice the number of local channels I utilised to and HDTV just knocks this one out of the park. For ฤ more you can get the same tuner except with a portable antenna, the VGA/Composite adapter cable, and support of AVerMedia PVR computer software so in retrospect I would have gone with the latter. Newegg really should clarify the product listing to "AVerTV Hybrid Volar MAX (Windows Starter Kit)" as aside from the model quantity (who reads these?) its the only way to distinguish it from the much more function rich "AVerTV Hybrid Volar MAX". I was a tiny bit skeptical right after reading the unfavorable evaluations of this solution. Slow channel alterations? Incompatibility? I had of these issues.

32-bit Vista driver doesn't perform. 6 month old Volar Max broke so purchased the new one. New Volar Max can not be installed in Vista 32-bit or 64-bit. Also attempted manually downloading the driver from the vendor website but that didn't perform either. Vendor doesn't seem to have e-mail account. NEWEGG - inform the vendor to repair the Vista driver!!!!!! Manufacturer Response:Dear Consumer,Thank you for reporting Windows Vista driver situation with AVertTV Hybrid Volar Max Windows Starter Kit.Sorry this issue is only connected to Vista OS and we'll release an updated driver for Windows Vista 32ኜ shortly. Alright reception in dorms. High quality is typical and deffinetely not HD but it is probably mainly because dorms will not have great reception due to the multiple splitters they use in buildings, so dont count on that if you are living on college campus (I am employing it on a 1920x1080 23.6in monitor). I did not try it but with OTA HD channels so I cant comment on that.Works Extremely properly with Windows 7 ****(however, read cons for Vista x64).**** It genuinely is plug n play due to the fact it installed drivers in seconds automatically and I was able to view television in minutes upon plugging it in.Does not come with bundled software nor CD which I discovered Fantastic! Most retailers place their garbage tunerware in that is far behind even WMC so it was handy not to have to bother custom installing it. DOES NOT Work WITH VISTA 64 BIT.Greatest warning: it will NOT work with it. I was on the phone with tech help for HOURS. A guy named Kang was "helping" me. He attempted to do anything that I had carried out (remote controlling the comp). The drivers on their web site will not work with vista 64 bit no matter what. Therefore, the tuner would not be recognized.I was forced to set up Windows 7 alongside my Vista against my will (my W7 is not activated but so I have it for 30 days) and I do not want to spend M$ 𞳸$ to hold my ultimate so I dont know whats going to occur in a couple of weeks. It also does not come with an antenna but I dont require it for my objective so not really a con for me but for other it may possibly be. Manufacturer Response:Dear Buyer,Thank you for reporting Windows Vista driver challenge with AVertTV Hybrid Volar Max Windows Starter Kit.Sorry this situation is only related to Vista OS and we'll release an updated driver for Windows Vista 32ኜ shortly. Works just fine with Windows Media Center in Windows 7 64-bit Due to the fact it's a hybrid tuner with a software program analog tuner, it does not function with software such as Orb. If you just want some thing that operates with WMC, this is a winner for you. With this and an IR blaster you're all set.But if you want one thing that works with Much more than just WMC, this may well not be for you. The application primarily based analog tuner is not compatible with Orb for live Television streaming. But otherwise, this tuner is plug and play.Considering that this is a USB stick, it runs slower with delivering the Tv signal than a Computer card. I can hit the guide on my set top rated box and count many seconds just before I'll see the guide in WMC. The delay in video/audio coming up on the Pc is a lot slower than when I utilised a Pc card. You don't notice this delay when only watching Television on the Computer, but could when changing channels. Manufacturer Response:Dear Client,SnugTV is an alternative for Orb streaming. You can go to http://www.snugtv.com to register for an account and download SnugTV Station. With SnugTV you will be in a position to setup SnugTV Station on a pc with AVerTV Hybrid Volar Max. Then access that laptop remotely to watch Television programming anywhere else if world wide web access is available. I Plugged it in and off I went! Win 7 picked it up suitable away and I was watching Tv! None in relation to the solution. Did get a bit warm but it is to be anticipated. Only that it took a wile to get Win 7 to lode the Television guide for my aria. Even though that is likely do to my Pc. I have but to test it out on a faster machine.

See my review under If you want to record with a thing other than windows media center, so you can get an MPEG2 file as an alternative of an encripted .WTV file, it will take some function. This version on the Hybrid Volar Max is the "windows starter kit" on Avermedia's web page and does not support Avermedia's media center software. Why? No clue. There are most likely third party PVR application out there that will work with this card. Again, it performs fine with Windows Media Center, which is all you will need if you are just going to watch the recorded shows on your windows box.

Tv comes in using Windows Media Center. I am not close to the transmitters so the antenna that comes with it is useless for me. I am capable to get quite a few OTA channels working with a powered indoor antenna. Windows Media Center does not recognize the FM tuner in the device for some explanation making use of Windows Vista Property Premium. Neither the Television application, nor the separate radio system worked for me at all. Support was responsive but none of their suggestions helped with the concern. I was disappointed because I genuinely looked forward to the FM radio functionality.I lastly got around to performing my Windows 7 upgrade last evening so maybe the new Windows Media Center will resolve my concerns.

It installed and worked in 15 mintues - most of that was configuring Media center. I have a radio shack rabbit ears antenna hooked up, I reside in a major metro area and am obtaining more than the air digital HD Tv. My reception is the very same as my samsung HDTV tuner. Media center shows Green Ɣ+) bars on the Tv signal strength indicator for all key channels. Once more, becoming close to the broadcast towers, I'm not a excellent test of tuner reception.I am operating a rig I built last december: core I5 with a gigabyte board and ATI videocard. None,Documentation was superior than I expected it would be, but when has there just about every been decent documentation for a โ element? Why would I want to burn a slot for an internal tuner card??No indication with the documentation that it will operate with a Mac. I will give it a try sooner or later and update my critique

Ultimately, it functions in VISTA. Small assistance on how to install with VISTA To set up the driver in VISTA 32 bit (I didn't have a 64 bit VISTA), you must disable User Account Control (UAC). If the UAC is turned on, simple run the installer as administrative will not work. It appears the issue is that the driver installer can not compose files to some process dirs.

-Operates flawlessly on Win7 Pro/Media Center-Does QAM, ATSC, and old school NTSC.-Ordered Sunday afternoon, it was at my door in 48 hours! -No remote, not even in the retail version-I wouldn't count on a lot tech assistance from this company. Installed in about ten seconds, Win 7 discovered the driver on-line. Media Center identified the tuner and configured it correctly on the initially try. I have it set up for analog cable(NTSC) and local HD(QAM), each operate wonderful. Can't beat the price, it just functions! I do not strategy to use this on Vista, most of the negative reviews for this have to do with drivers for Vista.

Worked for a whilst, inexpensive, uncomplicated to install. This is my 2nd overview for this product. Sadly I've had to RMA it in favor of anything far better. This tuner had difficulties with Win 7 32bit, so I upgraded to Win 7 64bit and the issues went away. Then I made the mistake of updating to the drivers on AVerMedia's site. Huge MISTAKE. The stock Windows drivers worked significantly far better. The AVer Media drivers triggered the "Low/No Signal" error in WMC7. So immediately after a reformat and reinstall of Win7, couldn't roll back the drivers, I left the device working with the Windows drivers which worked for about 6 days. Then the tuner began causing super high CPU usage on SD channels, causing skipping and picture pixelation, only on SD even though. Not positive what went incorrect but it just stopped performing and I changed no settings. Word to the wise, and AVer Media, avoid thier drivers at all expense for Win7, they DO NOT Carry out. Had to RMA this factor, most most likely going to squeeze a hardware based ASUS tuner in my setup. Tech assistance will comment on the Newegg reviews with the standard reply of "Update the drivers that are on our web site". Don't do it. They haven't updated the drivers in years, and they perform like trash under Windows 7 64bit. Uncomplicated install, excellent playback top quality, excellent price:Merely plug it in and Win7 (prem or superior) installs the driver in below ten seconds. Right after looking by way of the included speedy setup guide for a minute or two, the Media Center setup was a breeze as well. Inside 20 minutes all of my cable analog and 28 add'l clear-QAM HD channels were all up and operating. None with Win7 prem 64-bit edition I've been by way of 5 or far more tuners over the years searching for the greatest a single and I feel I've identified it with this device. This humble USB tuner delivers outstanding information to my sound and video hardware for a Television viewing experience on my Computer second to none: especially given that my cable provider offers the neighborhood stations in Clear-QAM in addition to standard analog signals. This hybrid device picks up both with a single coaxial connection. HDTV guidelines! Final thoughts: If you're seeking to get the best Win7 and Media Center expertise out of your Computer or lap-leading, I highly suggest choosing up this tuner.

Super easy install, Win 7 Ultimate recgonized and installed with no problems. Utilizing with MC7, HDTV/Clear QAM channels appear excellent. I believe there may possibly be some troubles with Win 7 ࿀-bit), the tuner and my ASRock E350 AMD board. For some reason in MC, analog (SD) channels appear awful. Tons of skipping, audio cutting in and out, poor pixelation. Only takes place on the SD channels although, HD is rock solid. Latest drivers from AverMedia give no support. Updated all my drivers from AMD/ATi, all windows updates installed, no luck...nevertheless SD 'skippage'. Hope this is a difficulty than can be fixed with computer software, but if not i'll just RMA the tuner and get another. I feel this could be an incompatibility in between the ASRock E350 AMD board may be too new, and causing troubles with the tuner. I know the E350 has sufficient muscle to do HD 鼐p flash playsback with no skips), and even software decoded SD really should be no issue. CPU use on the SD channels only clocks in about 25-35% use on both cores. As lengthy as you have Windows 7 Premium or much better, this item is just plug and play with Windows Media Center. Beautiful HD video when television is played back following recording, especially on a Media Center Extender. If your signal is weak, (one bar of signal) the live picture may appear fine but it will say no signal when you click record. Just heard that this is essentially part of Windows 7 Media Center, and not the tuner itself. Superior signals record fine. Recall this is particularly made for Windows 7's Media Center!

none Avermedia lastly admits- this tuner does NOT work with many newer motherboards- and their tech support has no remedy. Avermedia blames the difficulty on Win7, blames the difficulty on the motherboard manufacturer- they blame every person but themselves. There is NO fix. "Low Information Rate", "The Tuner has stopped capturing data", lockups, bluescreens....just isn't worth the hassle. This is a Identified dilemma with 7? Motherboards?.....anything BUT Avermedia's difficulty. All their tech support knows how to say is "It's your fault- load most recent computer software and drivers! I DO have the most recent drivers and computer software- NO fix! So- in conclusion- this tuner does NOT work with Gigabyte GA-E7AUM-DS2H running 7ኜ (latest bios flash). I'm thinking there's some issues with the J-micron controller, or Nvidia 9400 chipset..this technique was created particularly as a HTPC, but it's a "NO FLY" now...
