I bought this to go along with a socket G34 AMD Opteron 6376 16-Core server processor for a highly threaded workstation.I'm not a newbie at assembling computers. The holes in one of the angled fastening brackets were spaced just a bit too tight making it almost impossible to get the second screw started. This cooler is massive with a huge base (seriously!), so they only give about 1 cm of spacing between the base and fins to try to get these brackets attached - and a 90 degree hex wrench to do it with.Anyway... once I got it all assembled and stopped cursing, I spread a very thin coat of compound on the massive G34 processor, and mounted the cooler.This Noctua cooler does a phenomenal job at cooling the processor even with all 16 cores at 100%. At first I couldn't believe the reported temps, so I had to touch the top of the base to see for myself just how cool this thing runs the Opteron.Most of my systems run with Noctua coolers, and this is the reason why. |
