Has a good strong really feel to it. Fantastic case integrated. Incredibly compact The USB cable fits in the case a small bit funny and leaves a buldge, but no huge deal. I ordered this on accident but soon after searching at it, decided to hold it. I meant to get a 3.five" enclosure but I still have a use for a 2.5 so I just ordered an additional drive for this one. I have one particular other 2.five case and like this 1 a lot greater!

It is solidly built, and I choose its aluminum enclosure to the far more well-known Rosewill RX81U-ES-25A two.5" SATA enclosure. It looks quite nice, although the side with the logo is a bit busy, I believe. The light is on the opposite end from the USB port, which adds a tiny bit of length more than equivalent enclosures but I choose it because you don't have to look at the back of the product. It feels sturdy, and holds the drive in nicely. Doesn't rattle around or anything. I loved this drive for two years, until... It died. It didn't hurt my challenging drive (thankfully an indestructible little Seagate Momentus), but it was frustrating to have it just stop working. It have to have had a brief, since it began drawing also considerably power. Even when it had its independent assistance and was on a powered USB hub, it just gave me nothing except a "drawing too substantially energy" error message. I was afraid the drive was dead, but just purchased a new Rosewill enclosure for it (to transform issues up) and it is operating perfectly. Even though I am backing every thing on it up now that I'm paranoid about the drive. I may be a freak accident, or it might be that the drive is just supposed to last for a couple of years and anything following is gravy. It's inexpensive, definitely worth the price tag, but for the moment (not getting had yet another external USB two.5 enclosure encounter) I would buy a different Rosewill more than it. Even with the cheap plastic-y really feel to the internal parts, the rosewill does look nicer and is performing really properly.

eSATA operates effectively, you can use a usb power cable (with enough amperage!) to power the drive even though utilizing eSATA to read/write. The 5V round plug hole is a bonus; for instance, Rosewill sells a card reader and esata/usb front panel accessory which contains a power cable that fits this! The aluminum helps transfer heat. Can't turn off the blue LED. The USB y-cable is bulky. An extremely good case with several energy options.

USB two. functions fine. Extremely desirable color (blue) and neat carry case. eSATA will not function with MSI P7N SLI Platinum. I attempted the I/O eSATA ports on the backplate and even attempted a SATA port connected directly to the m/b and no go.

Genuinely like how easy it was to put with each other. And my Western Digital Scorpio WD2500BEVS 250GB 5400 RPM 8MB Cache SATA 1.5Gb seriously performs wonderful in this. Genuinely like the color to. Tried utilizing the esata, but it won't operate. No major deal tho. It does like to get finger prints on it.

This is a great little enclosure. It is my second Vantec enclosure, the initially getting the PATA version of this SATA 1. Assembly couldn't be less difficult, and Vantec supplies a tiny bag of screws to mount your drive to the circuit board. Match and finish are of incredibly high excellent, and the appear of the drive is fairly classy and qualified. It performs flawlessly. I use it with a 2006 MacBook Pro 15" to swap drives (initial use) and then with Time Machine for backups. No fuss, no muss. Amazing item at a decent price. Don't hesitate; just obtain it. It's excellent! Much more of a fault with my personal computer, not the Vantec enclosure:With my ག MacBook Pro 15", the computer has two USB ports, 1 on each and every side of the laptop. The left port doesn't appear to provide adequate voltage to power the drive adequately, but the 1 on the right side functions far better, even though I believe it is on the hairy edge of not supplying the needed 5 volts. Unfortunately, the double-headed USB cable supplied with the Vantec isn't quite lengthy adequate to stretch across to attain each USB ports on my MBP laptop simultaneously. On other computer systems, you can use the Vantec supplied cable to hook to 2 USB ports to get the needed voltage to power the enclosure.A USB extension cable can repair this, but it would be nice if Vantec would provide a cable with a couple more inches of length in the cable. Alternatively, you can use an additional energy brick from a cell telephone or an additional pc peripheral that has an output of five volts to power the Vantec enclosure. Just appear at the brick's label to determine if the output is 5 V or not. I would NOT propose utilizing a brick with a various voltage, even if the plug physically fits the Vantec jack. You could harm the Vantec enclosure with an incorrect output voltage.

Great Drive, installed 500 gig WD hard drive, plugged it in and it recognized it and booted correct up. The only con I can assume of is that for my particular laptop I have to plug it in and the boot up my computer system. It does not recognize it if I attempt to plug it in when personal computer is running. Wonderful service and delivery by Newegg as usual. Thanks.

Incredibly attractive and sturdy case. Pulled out Hitachi 80GB 5400 SATA and fit it in beneath two min. No external energy source required as it runs off of USB. Definately obtain if your in the industry for HDD upgrade. None! Ballistics nylon/padded carrying case comes with it so it's quite portable and very protected.

Works wonderful and appears nice. I like the freebie case. Wish it had a energy switch so I don't have to preserve unplugging the USB to energy it off. A person mentioned eSATA is not hotswapable? Yes it is. If it weren't how would I be capable to power it off and then back on and have it come back up? When the SATA cable is plugged in it will try to use SATA, and when only the USB is plugged in it will attempt to use just USB. If working with SATA is getting applied then the USB ought to be utilized for power (no power brick included unfortunately). Less costly USB cables will not function for energy but do appear to operate for the USB connection. The USB cable it comes with functions for either. Comes up as USB2. and/or SATA 1.5gig (my max port speed is 1.five on mobo) in dmesg in Gentoo Linux. Like I stated above when I want to power it down I have to unplug the USB cable, which is type of a discomfort. Other than that, excellent enclosure.

Performs as advertised, straightforward set up. Look at the efficiency hit eSATA takes if you disable disk cache. 1) Mirror/chrome finish shows fingerprints, would be much better with a matte finish.two) Documentation suggests diabling disk cache for maximum security but in eSATA mode, this alternative degrades efficiency a lot.

Simple to use, uncomplicated set-up and install. Comes with drivers on cd, but they shouldn't be needed if you have a modern OS. Good case that comes with it. Compact and sleek, quite quiet and disperses heat wonderfully. It would be excellent if it came with a stand to help in stability (no issues however standing straight up or on its side). I would also like it if it came with a 5v adapter as an selection to use rather of the USB for a energy supply. This are minor specifics however and really don't detract from the usefulness of this device. My 150gb spare HDD operates wonderfully - the eSATA is extremely fast and the USB operates just as properly, if not slower. Fantastic acquire to get some life out of old laptop HDD's.

Slim sleek style, fairly strong building, effortless to setup. I like the red color on this, it seriously stands out....if your into that sort of issue. didn't come with stand alone energy provide.....although energy is supplied by way of USB, so it actually doesn't matter. I picked the incorrect interface sort, my laptop died and I want to retrieve the files of the H.D.D. and then reformat and reuse as an external. Unfortunetly, I assumed my laptop HD had an IDE interface, but infact it had the SATA 15. So I RMA'd this for the Sata 15 version. Ooops, Nobody's best.

What a good item! I initial bought this pondering that it may not perform, trigger of the 250gig tough drive I'm going to use it for. Cause Vantec stated, "USB Powered for drives up to 160GB". Properly it functions for my 250 just fine. The USB is great but, the eSATA is blazing fast even when used in vista. Don't hotswap with esata lead to windows doesn't like it. Due to the fact there is no energy supply you can use the USB for the energy when utilizing the eSata. I just have 1 beef with this. Where is the power provide? But then again it came with a carrying case.I want I could have had a decision, Energy supply or carrying case.O nicely for this price its excellent sufficient! Vantec ought to have had a accesory version that came with a stand and power supply for it for a little further $. I would have paid for it. Great product, quickly service and shipping, Thanx Newegg. Just want it had a energy provide.

eSata AND USB, Normal 5V Power Provide, USB cable, eSata Cable. Effortless to assemble. Works Quick. I will acquire one more 1. I want for a couple of dollars far more, it would incorporate an AC Adapter for use with the eSata. I have sufficient old Sidekick chargers hanging around to do the job. If you have an old T-Mobile Sidekick charger, it performs perfectly with this unit.

I use a black a single for perform files, blue for personal files and my red 1 contains a solid state drive applied for running virtual machines. The colors protect against me from bringing the incorrect 1 to operate.

Simple to assemble and use.Helpful and convenient packaging. Supplied USB cable doesn't quite work with 15" laptop. I replaced the original drive in my 15" MacBook Pro and purchased this to make use of it. It is a sweet tiny bundle, and I specially like the incorporated carrying case. But the double-headed USB cable is as well quick to enable me to use it on my MBP. This would be a true drawback except that the right-hand USB port supplies all the energy (and signal) needed.

I couldn't get my OKGEAR enclosure to operate with my Hitachi 7K320 in eSATA. So I gave this Vantec NexStar three a try. It operates like a charm! Doesn't have a different standalone cable for the power port on this case - have to use the fairly bulky USB cable for energy.

Capable of holding huge capacity HDDs (see Other thoughts beneath). Colour is stunning. I haven't been able to get the eSATA port to operate in two unique PCs and, would have dropped the rating of this case down to a Ř" if it would not be for it's beautiful color and, more importantly, it's capability to operate utilizing a Western Digital Scorpio WD3200BEVT 320GB 5400 RPM 8MB Cache SATA three.0Gb/s Notebook Challenging Drive. (BTW, this could possibly be the cause it does not work By means of eSATA) I'm a Pc/Network Consultant by trade with a client base over two hundred (both private and enterprise/corporate clientele) and have been using and recommending computer system/network technologies for over two decades. I added this external case to my repertoire in December 2007 to test it out. I bought it with a Western Digital Scorpio WD3200BEVT 320GB 5400 RPM 8MB Cache SATA 3.0Gb/s Notebook Tough Drive by way of Newegg.com (Newegg ROCKS!) and use it exclusively for onsite client information backup/protection through its USB two. port just before key method work. This combo has been Totally difficulty/trouble free of charge so far!
