Incredibly tiny and compact, works with USB3 Needs external power supply to function with USB three Didn't comprehend this unit needed an external power provide (not included) till I went to use it with USB three, and unit would not power up no matter what until plugged in. Thank goodness I had an older power supply that fit laying around...

I don't know what the guy who mentioned 45 Megabytes/sec = 5.six Gbps was smoking, but 5 Gigabits per second is appropriate about 625 MegaBYTES per second (assuming 5 Gigabits is defined as 5000 Megabits) To convert five GigaBITS to GigaBYTES, just divide by 8. Thats it, don't divide by 8 and then divide by 16 or whatever he did...If you study the USB3 spec though, 4 GigaBITS is the actual throughput, not 5, and 3.2 is deemed affordable in "real-world" applications. But thats nevertheless 400 MegaBYTES per second, ㅂx what ever that guy was talking about. But unless you are employing a SATA-3 SSD AND a SATA-3 to USB-3 enclosure (this one is SATA-two only), you can't get over 3 GigaBITS or 375 MegaBYTES per second theoretical transfer prices. SATA-2 is three GigaBITS max, and no really hard drive, particularly a 2.5" drive, is close to saturating that.

Looks fantastic and is extremely tiny, not considerably bigger than a 2.5inch tough drive. USB three. does not function, the light will turn on and drive will spin up but it will not connect to the computer system, it's not detected in Windows 7 with USB 3. drivers installed, Windows XP with USB three. drivers installed, Linux Ubuntu, or in the BIOS, I RMA'd it and the replacement nevertheless did not have functioning USB three. only two. worked, limiting the higher speed 7200RPM drive I spent added money on to ㅛMBps and requiring me to use both USB two. ports so it can get adequate energy.Does not help spinning down the really hard drive; in Windows 7 the tough drive will in no way spin down, in Windows XP or Linux Ubuntu you will hear the drive try to spin down many times but it will outcome in the drive completely disconnecting from the pc and spinning back up to exactly where you have to unplug and replug it to get it to connect again.Depending what angle you look at the enclosure the LED can be really vibrant, but this doesn't seriously bother me as I just turn the enclosure the other way.Continued in other thoug The new mini USB 3. connector or what ever it's known as that you plug the USB cord into the back of the enclosure is a poor design and style, it is extremely thin and does not go quite deep into the socket resulting in a extremely loose connection, I have to sit a CD spindle on the USB cord plug for it to stay connected but even then it doesn't often function and Windows will come up saying "This drive is unformatted."... I was going to preserve this enclosure, but soon after writing this overview I realized I'd have to be crazy to do that. Hopefully I can find the box so I can return it for a refund. When it comes to laptop parts their are a lot of issues you can go with the low-cost brand and it'll function just as fine as the "name brand", but apparently that is not true with challenging drive enclosures.

I love the modest size and this is my first two.5" enclosure by Vantec though I personal about 8 three.5" enclosures from Vantec. Possessing a situation for it is great I have had difficulties with the connector wiggling so when I'm transferring to and from the tricky drive I don't touch it and haven't had any problems due to the fact. I leave it sitting in the case at all occasions even when employing it. I don't have any USB3. compatible computer systems so I can't comment on the USB3. functionality.

Product comes very nicely packaged! The tough drive is secured working with screws. All the screws for the drive and situation work properly and line up great, no indicators of stripping right here. Cables are very higher high quality as with the case and all round look. The cable is of fantastic length as properly, about 3 feet. Works fine with USB three., two., 1.1. So far my transfer speeds common around 40-45 Megabytes ࿈ Megabytes = 320 Megabits or 5. Gigabits) per second by way of USB three.. So it's performing correct at the rated 5Gbps. Actually, most of the time is correct at 45 Megabytes per second which would be 360Mbps or 5.6Gbps. I can't say adequate very good points about this enclosure. I’m using a 7200rpm tough drive. So far it’s had no issues operating with Windows 7 64-bit, Windows Vista 64-bit and Windows XP 32-bit. None

Will perform with a Essential SSD drive. The connector is loose. This is the initial USB three. connector I've user utilized--I don't know if they are all this loose or if it's only a issue with this model. If the cord is not resting at specifically the ideal angle or if it wiggles at all it looses its connection. Tends to make the enclosure entirely useless.

- - You have this item set to show that it demands an AC adapter when it obviously does not. You may want to change that as it will drastically impact sales of this item. If it weren't for me accidentally picking "Yes" on AC adapter rather of "No" I under no circumstances would of identified it.

There aren't quite a few pros when the equipment doesn't work ideal out of the box. On the other hand, I have 6 other Vantec external enclosures and this is my very first unfavorable experience. I'm hunting forward to getting a replacement enclosure that functions. The drive shows up as an unknown USB device. I tried it making use of two unique preformatted NTFS 2.5" difficult drives on Windows 7 and Windows XP computers. Neither hard drive would show up on either operating system when inside the NST-280S3-BK. I tested the hard drives in a different enclosure and they operate fine so the issue is certainly with the NST-280S3-BK. Functions Good. I place a two GB western digital green drive in it. The drive is only 5400 rpm but value was appropriate, I just transfered 17 GB in five minutes and 30 secs. That is more than 400 mbps. Im pleased with that. I am pluging it into a Gigabyte GA-965p-s3 MB. That file was really transfered more than my my network through my 8 port ASUS giga switch into that MB and out USB three port into this drive. If I leave the drive on my personal computer does not see it after a reboot or immediately after going to sleep, I have to turn the unit on and off. It runs hot so I dont like leaving it on anyway.

modest, pretty, excellent packaging USB three fails, frequent i/o errors under USB 2. I don't trust this with significant data at all I RMA'd my first 1, Newegg replaced fine as usual (thanks Newegg), but the difficulties persist and this leads me to think its just a poor piece of gear. I tested my USB three with a usb 3. flash drive and it mounts perfectly. Under USB two, I get frequent i/o failures though transferring information. I would advise to appear elsewhere for an enclosure.

Little, fairly usb three fails to mount the drive I thought I was saving money by getting an enclosure and pairing it with a WD scorpion blue 750GB.... I went to Office depot currently and prices were comparable for a prebuilt portable drive, and of course they work as advertised. In my case, this only works when I plug in a USB2, USB3 fails to mount the drive entirely. I can't tell if its the enclosure that is defective... drag.

Pros: -USB3-Does what it's supposed to-Quality case-Obvious activity indicator-Comes with a carrying case

Though I haven't had many of these external enclosures over the years, this one feels like quality. It works exactly like I expected it to and was quick and easy to setup. What I did not expect was that it comes with a carrying case (written in the package contents but I missed that). Only downside to the carrying case is that it's a little bit tight once you fit in the enclosure + the cable.

Cons: -would have liked a eSATA port on it, for temporary SATA drives (you can't install and rub big games on USB drives)

Pros: -USB 3.0 ready, compatible USB 2.0 and 1.1-nice black mirror finish-Use any SATA drives up to 2Tb in it-cheap-priced
Comment:
This external enclosure is very practical for those who want to store a lot of data externally. I would recommend anyone to buy one of these and put in a 1Tb or 2Tb Blue or Green drive in it, inexpensive external data storage drive!
