pretty straightforward installation, desirable enclosure, operates effectively. none I maintain the unit turned off unless i'm backing up one thing (a couple of occasions a month). For that reason, I haven't had any of the temperature/overheating concerns other folks have had. My harddrive fits quite snugly into the enclosure, i guess thats a very good issue.

Win7 installed the drivers automatically.Instantly mounted each of my old drives.Performs flawlessly. Spaces as well tight. Wires cramped, line up poorly. Internal metal edges can be sharp.Extremely noticeable hum of about 60hz with the unit on my desk. Each cables are also short, especially the energy cable. No backup program incorporated, contra the manual.Garish indicator light. I'm satisfied with this Vantec unit, but I think they missed the mark by a tiny. Some of us will want to use this unit to rescue or transfer the contents of many drives, and the internal layout of this enclosure will make that not as fast and straightforward as it could have been. What's much more, the cables are beneath such strain from bending that I would expect failure if drives were mounted on a each day basis. As other people have stated, be cautious of sharp edges as you put the drive in. But as soon as you get the approach (you have to nose the drive wires beneath the two sharp metal stops), the drives go in smoothly. I contacted support about the lack of backup computer software; no reply as of a day later.I'd like to place this point on the floor, exactly where the hum wouldn't be poor, but the wires are as well quick. Just a tiny additional thought by Vantec would have produced this an outstanding unit.

I purchased two of them; both were easy to set up and neither has provided me any problems whatsoever. I haven't left them on for extended periods of time, but so far they've been runing quiet and cool. One particular of them I bought for a Iomega external HDD when the original Iomega case broke and it's been a huge improvement. It's made of solid aluminum and not low-cost plastic, it doesn't rattle, it runs cooler, and not possessing to unplug it to turn it off is a great convenience. As other folks have described, the power adapter is terrible, so know what you're acquiring. The cord is way also quick and the energy brick is monstrous. The brick is designed to stick out sideways, so if you plugged it into a wall socket it wouldn't take up both plugs. I guess the designers believed that clever. It's also poor most energy strips orient their sockets to the side and no a single in their correct mind would plug a laptop element straight into the wall. I had to locate yet another energy strip just for the two of them. They're also a bit pricey. It's really shiny.

It's constructed sturdy functions fantastic. I get speeds of about 30 MB/s. It's a tiny tough to install a difficult drive mainly because the tray is a tiny bit too narrow. Also, the screw holes for the back panel don't specifically line up. Even though it has a couple of faults, I would undoubtedly obtain an additional.

Feels truly strong. Has a light on the front for activity. On/Off switch. A stand. Can't truly ask for substantially far more out of an enclosure. The explanation for the four is the power cord is a small shorter than I've seen with other enclosures which can be an inconvenience depending on where you set it.

Looks nice I suppose. Solid on/off switch. Strong USB hookup. The most important factor that an external enclosure need to possess (besides functioning) is a excellent design and style. Becoming capable to set up the challenging drive safely and intuitively is what I look for. This enclosure fails major time. It's a extremely hazardous, quite tight match installing the challenging drive. The information cable can very easily get mashed up and pulled into the back element of the unit which can harm it (I scratched mine up considerably). This also prevents the casing from sliding in appropriately and forces you to apply unsafe stress on the back plate when extracting the HD to appropriate the concern. It's also very easy to neglect the LED hookup when taking the tough drive out, which outcomes in it getting forcefully removed (which can lead to bent pins or even breakage).Compared to other enclosures I've applied (SATA based ones), this is not very well believed out. There's simply no excuse for that. I'm just one particular guy, who noticed how stupid this was right after about 2 minutes. The manufacturer pushed out a sub par product. If you can navigate the hazards of installing the challenging drive, and your unit works, this might serve its goal. On the other hand, if you've going to be swapping out difficult drives a lot, installation will almost certainly fray nerves and make you regret your purchase.

Bought this for my scrapbooking wife for Christmas and she loves it. Fit in that old IDE challenging drive perfect. Set up was really basic with out any difficulties. Case keeps good and cool even when HD is in use. Transfer rate seems to be just as fast as before when it was inside the Pc. Visually attractive! Nada Very good way to get a external tough drive on a price range as long as you have an added HD to put in it

Trade off for the size. The energy input on the back saw a tiny off.The screws just required a clever hand to put, not thats its negative or nay factor.Used at current lan party on campus, no problem with other computers.I'd look at buying an additional a single for my other challenging drive for the costs.More than all this hard drive for the short time I've employed it is worth it.

Quite nice external hard drive enclosure. I just purchased a single for my parents mainly because they wanted a way to backup all of the digital photos so I bought this and applied it along with a spare HDD I had. Final summer 񢉙) I also suggested this to a single of my friends who has been really satisfied with it. I paid about ฽ for this enclosure mainly because it was very rated on NewEgg. I think that is pretty high-priced for just a case, thinking of I can get a relatively massive really hard drive for that price tag. That is my only complaint! Even though this external hard drive enclosure is fairly pricey, IMHO, I believe it is a very good enclosure. Is it worth the price tag, I don't know. But I purchased 1 following recommended it to a buddy. If you are going to use it for an external really hard drive to be utilized as a backup, possessing something dependable is quite crucial. I think this enclosure fits that bill.

Easy setup with just a screwdriver and the guidelines have been clear. No drivers needed for my Windows 7 or my XP machines. Very quiet and the vibrant red color tends to make this drive easy to identify on my messy desk, and tends to make it straightforward to inform my wife exactly where I backed up her music, "it's all on the red one." The case gets a small warm through long backup cycles but I'm not sure this is genuinely a problem. Single LED indicator on the front makes it attainable to see when the power is on but it's a small tougher to see when study\write is happening primarily based on the twinkle.

Good product, doesnt get hot, operates like I hoped it would. Extremely quick shipping from New Egg (as constantly). Cords that come with it are fairly short. You can't place it any additional than 2 feet away from the USB port. Power cord short as properly. Connector was upside down so I had to twist it which made it alittle harder to connect. I've had this hard drive just sitting around considering that 1998 so I figured Id pop it out of the old Computer and into this undesirable boy. It operates good. I forgot how various old challenging drives sound whenever you access them. Connected well to my new Pc (windows 7) and haven't had any troubles with it.

From Box to up and operating file transferring in less then 15 mins. Nice looking box, properly constructed, performs effectively. No drivers required for XP Pro. Fits the HD like a glove so you should be precise when mounting the Drive. In contrast to my Seagate external SATA HD Box this one particular has and on/off switch. Non so far Brought my old 250 Gig IDE Difficult Drive back to useable life.

Installation and set-up are incredibly user friendly. Internal tray is connected to rear face of enclosure. four-pin power dongle and IDE cable give connectivity and 4 screw holes safe your HDD in location. Internal tray edges fit nicely into the track inside the enclosure, insuring the HDD slides cleanly into place right after connecting the three-pin LED connector (similar to motherboard --> case lighting/alarm connectors).Transformer is incorporated into the electrical plug and each the energy and USB cables are of decent excellent and length. Aluminum case delivers excellent heat dissipation. Beneath heavy load the surface remained gently warm. Noise is equivalent to desktop HDD noise. Power indication light is vibrant, but can be simply disabled by disconnecting the LED. Initial HDD installation proved somewhat challenging due to the tight frame. The metal tabs made to hold the HDD from sliding to far toward the power dongle and IDE cable also protect against the HDD from becoming installed from the top (placing a card on leading of a deck). Instead it must be inserted halfway, connected, and then inserted (like a card inserted into the middle of the deck) the remainder of the way. Also, the connection involving the rear face and the internal tray is somewhat flimsy. While forcing the HDD into position I bent it twice. Luckily, bending the small tabs holding the rear face to the circuit board/tray is not hard. Exceptional enclosure for the money. Tolerances are on the tight side, no loose fitting components or side-to-side play.

Does it's job. Packaged nicely; effortless to set-up. Strong construction means a bit of elbow grease is required to make confident every little thing is tight... I'm a small worried about breaking something... Energy cord is a tiny brief. Practically nothing to take an egg off. :) I'm using it to connect my old PATA drives to my laptop. I've study horror stories of it providing out; hoping I don't have to do the identical. All round, this is a solid product. I advocate it for everyone who needs to get at the information on their old PATA drives.

Keeps cool, particularly with windtunnel case blowing on it all the time. I recovered tons of data off ancient difficult drives with no a hitch. It saves dollars to use old difficult drives for backup data as an alternative of purchasing new external hdd. Tricky to get challenging drive to slide absolutely in/out of enclosure. Share it with your close friends.
