-Intelligent energy: switches on/off with Computer automatically.-USB Hub: 3 ports (also wise powered)-Good seeking enclosure, and no funky lighting-Drive remains cool with passive heat sink, and automatic fan (enclosure comes with temp probe).-Great vibration dampening. Fan produces a bit of a whining noise, even at lower speeds. But it is minimal, and the drive remains cool sufficient for the fan to Under no circumstances need to have to kick in at high speed, just on low just about every as soon as in a although. The noise wasn't bothersome adequate for me to want to return and attempt and see if it was just the unit that I got that was "defective". This is truely a a single of a type enclosure. And the intelligent power is an exceptional notion + I now have 3 USB ports that aren't regularly powered for these devices that have an LED that is generally on (like webcam and BT dongle)This is my third vantec enclosure, and every one particular is better than the one ahead of. A wonderful organization with excellent merchandise!

Looks cool, active/passive cooling technique, and clever power. If only the tough drive fitted into the enclosure. The holes in the passive cooling tray are as well far forward and result in the corner of the HD to make contact with the rounded corner of the case, consequently the drive didn't fit. E-mail to Vantec concerning this concern went unanswered. Returned, dissatisfied.

The installations took couple minutes, simply because of the data cable, but it did not bother that much. Enjoy this product, acceptable price tag, worthwhile qualities.

Very good, Basic External Exclosure, Extera USB ports that you are in a position to use while the drive is pluged in to your Computer. Newegg got it here 4 days in advance. Verry Tiny and cramped. Not compatible with my Maxtor Dimondmax. I purchased the Maxtor DimondMax and Vantec Nexstar combo from newegg only to come across out that the Maxtor HD is about threeǚ a CM to massive. There for not generating the Enclosure unsealable.

Fit and finish are fantastic. The "smart cooling" operates. It supplies a USB hub There is NO clearance among the corners of a Seagate 400GB drive. WHY do all producers of external enclosures have the insane notion that it's a virtue to make the enclosur the identical size as the drive? I assembled this external drive especially to attach to a Buffalo LinkStation so the LinkStation could use it for its own backup. Extremely Regrettably, the device is recognized by the LinkStation NOT as a mass storage device, but as MERELY A HUB! The NexStar GX is most likely the very best USB-2 external IDE enclosure on the industry, but it's USELESS with a LinkStation

Excellent all round enclosure; fantastic capabilities and function My Seagate Barracuda 80gb difficult drive did not fit the case smoothly, it had to be forced in. It performs, but the snug match sort of torques the enclosure and makes the lid not fit fully properly Fantastic enclosure; functions wonderful, does precisely what its supposed to. only problem is the fitment problem with this particular difficult drive that I had.

Want to expand the USB two. port on your new Airport Extreme wireless base station? Then you should seriously take into account this item! Not only does it expand the one port to three, it adds a network storage drive as nicely. I was capable to take a single of my old challenging drives that had been set aside to make way for a drive with bigger capacity, stick it in, and place it to use as network storage drive. The fan is quit, the case is the exact very same size as the Airport intense base station, and it functions. I have had no troubles with the drive or the hub. I can't feel of any.

Modest and effortless to move around. Smaller, so small that when i got this in a package newegg had going with a Maxtor Dimondmax 300gb it didnt even fit. And even my Western Digital had issues... its so cramped that the low-cost plastic lid on the best is about to pop ideal off. Greater off investing a little bit far more funds.

fantastic price tag, extremely nice style, and usb hub is a plus, and as always newegg service gets 5 stars like most have mentioned, as soon as you mount the HDD to the heatsink it is near impossible to get HDD into the case. To repair HDD issue i applied my step drill to enlarge the heatsink holes just massive adequate to enable the screws to screw into the HDD and shift the HDD to the left and slide proper down into the case with no troubles, it was like butter, after anything snaps collectively, i utilised maxblast5 to format it to FAT32, and plug into my mac mini and it popped proper up, wonderful box obtain 1, if you dont want one particular you can acquire me yet another, they are good

Fantastic kind aspect, blends nicely with Mac Mini. USB hub is extremely beneficial. Plug and play immediately after setting up the drive. My Maxtor 300GB fit snug, but no troubles. No SATA. Heat sink on bottom, with minimal clearance, so heat doesn't dissipate swiftly. I've employed this for about 5 years so far, with the very same Maxtor 300GB drive. All went properly for about a year, then I noticed that it would hang my Time Machine up from time to time. I would have to turn it off and restart the drive, and sometimes that didn't perform. A couple of instances, I had to reformat the drive, and when it would not format in the enclosure. I had to remove the drive and format it with one more ide to usb adapter. For the past year, it would get a lot more and far more intermittent. I'm an electronics technician, so I decided to troubleshoot the dilemma. I thought it might be the ide cable, or probably the logic circuitry inside the case. It turned out to be neither. The dilemma was the external power provide brick. The 12 volts was reading ten.five volts. I took apart the brick and replaced a TL431C voltage regulator, which fixed it. It had likely been slowly going bad for years. Anyway, now it's operating perfectly once again.

Great Product. I installed a 300 GIG WD HDD 3 years ago and it is nevertheless running strong. The USB Hub makes it very practical to have on your desk so you can plug in your USB components. Tight Fit. But as soon as you shift the wires in the right position youwill have no issue closing the situation.

This is a neat and clean looking style. It stays cool. It is greater than (m)any out there. A tiny IQ test to install, but nothing big. Then comes the pleasure of the look of it. In truth, splendid! NONE, once you accept that the drive will be upside down. That applied to be an concern in the old days, but not now apparently. Screws and all? No large whoop. Cute design. Want similar enclosure for SATA!

Does what it says. It nice that it has the additional USB ports. Appears to be running nicely with Time Machine on OSX ten.five. Have to agree with other reviewers. Color requirements to be greater. It is absolutely a darker gray/silver than your Mac Mini. That is my only gripe. If the color had been the similar, I'd give it five stars.

It is a low profile enclosure with a fan that sits nicely next to my Mac Mini. It does what it desires to: back up my computer system with Time Machine on Leopard, and hold additional movies for my media center Mini. I haven't noticed any difficulties operating films off of it. The fan turns on a lot for not actually needing to. The blue LED that indicates that it is on is really annoying, so I unhooked it (it was uncomplicated). It doesn't sleep when the computer is asleep. The color is a little bit darker than my Mac Mini Wish it would function with each PATA and SATA.

Item was shipped quickly, and was as shown. This case is relatively rather tight for a typical drive, and worked fine when I very first installed my 160 gig drive. booted right up and information that was stored there from my old personal computer came appropriate up. I purchased 3 of these following reading the reviews. the fan choices are good and the further usb ports are excellent. the enclosure is good and space saving But. But. But. Now comes the issue. IDE cable is way to brief and so is the power cable. I had to install the drive upside down, and had no issues till i booted my computer. My 2006 Dell with no troubles would not see the drive To my dismay I Opened up the situation and the drive had truly shown sings of heat harm.my four year old drive was toasted naturally the fan by no means kicked on when set on auto!!!! I tested drive in another situation and yes its toast can hear it clinking but comp wont access. Thank my smarts I had what was on that drive backed up very first!!!! mmmm exactly where should i begin. The IDE cable is way to short. The power wire is way to brief. immediately after I ripped out short IDE cable and produced my personal that is considerably longer I could put the drive in effectively facing up like it need to, Fan really should be set to on all the time and so far drives have been running for 12 hrs with longer IDE cable in and re routing power cable. but not taken any chances I have backed up my stuff on my dependable external hard drive I will be back for further evaluation. Don'T put drives in upside down NOT Excellent. located out the difficult way. Make IDE cable tiny longer and Power cable shouldn't be shoved beneath fan Could have been reason why fan was not operating.

Stylish; integrated USB hub; extremely quiet; doesn't run hot Type of bulky, but pretty a lot all 3.5" enclosures are. Plastic, not aluminum. Not designed to stand vertically, but you can rest light objects on leading. Not really transportable, but no three.5" drive is anyway. It's exactly the size of a Mac Mini, just a tad slimmer. Type of looks like a Mac Mini too. If you have a spare 3.5" sitting around, this is a great way to make use of it. If you're starting from scratch, you may possibly as effectively go 2.5" (smaller, USB powered)

I've been making use of this unit for virtually three months and does every thing as described. It operates wonderful connected to my Time Capsule - 500 GB adding storage space and flexibility. The four-port USB hub is a actually huge plus if you are searching for even a lot more network storage. I plugged in a different external enclosure, with drive, to the hub for a total of more than 1TB of network storage. I haven't added a printer but I don't see why that wouldn't operate as nicely. A accurate money-saver for any individual wanting to recycle an old difficult drive. It is a small tricky installing the drive but it's NOT horrible. Follow the directions. For me, I consider the excitement of wanting to see it operate make me kinda' dopey. I've been a extended-time Computer user. I have a server using "SBS 2003" with a 500GB RAID, 500 GB for data storage, and a 1TB external drive for backups. ...And this is just for entertaining, not small business. In December of ང, I purchased my initial Mac (MacBook two.fourǘGB RAM뢒GB challenging drive). File sharing, amongst the two systems, has not been a dilemma (music, photographs, video, documents). I mention this only mainly because I in no way looked to see if the Mac drives are available thru Windows. With that substantially space on the server, I hope you can realize why I never looked. For Mac users, this item is a Fantastic notion for adding network storage if you use Time Machine for backups (wired and wireless setups). If you understand the plan, you can archive your backups and/or assign each personal computer its own backup drive. Like I said, "storage space and flexibility". It worked for me.

Is a compact design that keeps my tough drive cool, even below heavy load. It automatically turns off when I turn my machine off. The blue indicator light in unobtrusive, as opposed to some other enclosures. Has plugins for USB cables in the back so you can free of charge up your machine. The enclosure is particularly compact, so receiving your tough drive in is a little tricky and the directions aren't so clear. I'm nonetheless not positive if I put the heat sensor in appropriately simply because the fan has not come on but, besides when i turn it on manually. The heat sink is good, but placing challenging drive flat on a surface, as it's designed to do, may not be a excellent thought--it get super hot. I preserve mine on its side and have no troubles.

I bought this mainly for the 4 port hub and they are operating fine. My drive fit in the case just fine (you require to install it upside down). The temp monitor and fan are working as advertised. The case is barely warm to the touch. Fit and finish is fine ... aluminium would have been good. On a common note you should not attempt and use Maxtor Drives till you know what chip set you have ... check Maximum Computer for far more. It also pays to check the warrenty and go for Seagate or a single with a three year warrenty.

It's a very good remedy for the mac mini since it's stackable and creates a monolith appear (i bought 3 en.). The Mini detected them just fine even when the hd was applied in old computer(s) then I reformatted the drives. The 3 enclosures are just daisy chained. Speed is okay - for redundant backup its fantastic. You can even develop a raid set if you want in the method pref. I like that hd are turned off immediately after use or right after an idle period or if the machine was turned off (need to locate out if the on/off cycles are inherently poor for the drives). The fans are quiet and really nice for cooling, but with some caveats - see "other thoughts". Not SATA. It was excellent for me since I had old drives, and you can easily buy EIDEs to expand. The color is deceiving. It looks like the mac mini silver in the picture but truly is much more a very dark gun metal gray. If you have time, you can easily spray paint it if you have the abilities. Also, it's not Firewire which in practice is quicker than USB two. Other mini external stack variants supply usb, esata, firewire 400몸 but I can in no way locate them as just the enclosure for very good value as here in newegg.HEAT!!!! - See "other thoughts" Some thing to know about stacking these enclosures. I started by just stacking all of them, 3 enclosures and a mini on best. Don't do this! The enclosures are designed with a passive heat sink on the bottom (I believed the fans would take the load and do their jobs but they're not potent enough) and the enclosures are really snug so heat from every single hd do not dissipate. So for a rapid resolution! Take 3 pennies wrap them in white ducktape (just the edges) and position them as "foot" pads below each and every enclosure. Hopefully, I'll be in a position to locate rubber or less heat absorbent solid pads.
