Installed a blu-ray drive with no difficulties.Functions fantastic USB or eSATA.Good building of the shell.Utilizes a energy cord rather of a brick, a enormous plus.VANTEC tends to make good enclosures, in no way had an challenge with any of them. Building of faceplate is shoddy, but not a large deal.A little on the pricey side for what it is, but worth the extra bucks for positive.

Aluminum shell is heavy gauge. No external energy brick - AC to DC takes place in the case. Incredibly flaky on USB. Sometimes locks up whole method trying to read a disk. Appears to function ok as eSata which is the only cause I'm not returning it. Why does eSATA always cost so significantly much more than USB? eSATA requires significantly less intelligence compare to USB for drive enclosures. It's additional or significantly less pass via whereas USB demands a lot a lot more complicated circuitry to translate from one set of signals to the other.

Effortless to assymble, the directions appear to be properly written for the significantly less knowledgeable. I didnt even have to look at the directions, fairly straight forward. Perfect length for eSata cable for the drive to sit on best of the tower. Fan is quiet. Perfect match for a cdrom. The adaptor from eSata to sata was good to have and the internal sata cable portion was the best length just sufficient slack to not have the cable tight but not also substantially to look sloppy. No need to have for the drivers considering that it is pretty substantially a direct sata connection to the mother board. Good Satin finished none The external is made for CD-Roms, has audio connection, designed to lay flat not vertical there are notches on the best so you are in a position to stack the drives without having them sliding about.

No troubles with blu-ray drive installed a switch to disable the constructed-in access light would have been nice (or at least a slightly dimmer one particular)

A single of the handful of 5.25" external enclosures that supports eSATA.Fits a complete size optical drive. eSATA port stopped functioning following a couple of weeks. Now only performs over USB.Blue LED on front is obnoxiously bright. If I wanted a USB enclosure I would have bought a USB enclosure...

Always been a fan of Vantec enclosures and this one particular does not disappoint -- a really properly built enclosure. Aluminum is thick ƒ-3mm) and the shell fits together tightly. Paint finish is related to powder-coating, looks fantastic and resists scratching. The DC adapter is internal (no power brick) and uses a common Pc energy cable.Fan noise is virtually non-existent. Requires a little time to place together but almost everything fits incredibly tight after total. Don't anticipate to swap drives usually as that's not what it's built for. Will sit upright (vertically) on a flat surface but doesn't contain a stand for further stability.

Strong create, easy installation, INTERNAL Power Provide!! Did I mention the internal power provide? It's not straightforward to locate drive instances with internal supplies so I'm Quite happy with this situation.I installed a new Pioneer BDR-206 Blu Ray burner and employing the USB connection ,it has been flawless.Love the black color, it looks slick with the black drive installed.Making use of with a Mac Pro. Fan is a small noisy but I just energy it down when not in use. Newegg is the greatest.Neighborhood shipping usually arrives next day.

- very good workmanship- generic energy connector- supports Blu-ray drives (if you match the amperage rating, see post beneath) - excellent troubles- quite bad client service One added egg for a very good design concept, but if your device dies immediately after Newegg's warranty period, don't anticipate significantly help. No response to two emails to Vantec tech help, so I wrote off mine, and attached the BD drive to a network share.

Looks nice, performs as advertised. none Performs properly as Tricky drive or DVD external enclosure with USB two.. Dont try to use this with a blueray burnner unless you are going to use the eSATA interface for connection. I paired this with a LG BLue-Ray burnner and tried to burn a couple of information ྐྵgb) disks more than USB two. and all I did was end up adding to my coaster collection. I tried once more with a various Pc employing the eSATA interface and worked fine.

Metal enclosure, many interface portsquiet (but thats genuinely just based on what you place in it.) the front bezel seems to be rather flimsy and doesn't fit appropriately, leaves a gap in between the plastic and the metal frame. if your seeking for ascetically pleasing looks, i would suggest looking elsewhere, other wise this is a wonderful product, hasn't failed me when compatible with OSX out of the box with a bluray drive installed.

Sturdy build of solid aluminum. I'd feel comfy placing fairly a bit of weight on it, even though I don't. Gives you all the connectors you want, and then some. Power switch is placed in an simple to use spot on the back, that can simply be discovered just by touch. Nice rubber pads on the bottom doesn't scratch up my wood desk. eSATA cable could be a small longer, but that's a seriously minor problem. Also, if you plan to mount it vertically, there are no rubber feet on the flat side or a stand to hold it from scratching items. Excellent for external optical drives if your laptop lacks one particular (like mine). Regrettably, I identified out the eSATA on my laptop was poor, but the case itself is not at fault--functions perfectly fine with my desktop.

Does precisely what it's supposed to. I only use it more than eSATA, and the performance is good. I normally use it with a BDROM drive connected to a laptop. The fan is a small loud, but it's not a big deal. Haven't tested it over USB.

Cons: The whole setup is a bit "bulky" - power cable could be longer

Pros: Solid build quality, reliable and flexible
Comment:
I was suprised of the build quality of this product. Most parts are metal and no lose fittings noticed. I mounted a BD-RW inside and write speed are stable under both eSATA and USB. The setup is also very silent during usage. Install was really easy and bundle sofwares are quite useful. Would recommend :-)

I purchased this NST-530SU enclosure to install an ASUS DRW 24B1ST DVD burn. In stalled the burn hooked it up to my HP Pavilion dv7 Notebook Intel Core i5 CPU M430 @ two.27GHz. Windows 7 Household Premium 64 noticed it suitable away works good. The drive in the notebook only reads at 8x so I wanted a quicker drive to copy DVD'S. What uses to take 30min. to copy to the tough drive now takes less then 12min. (DVD+R DL 7.three GB). Also I used the E-Sata to connect. From time to time I want to boot the device with the laptop for it to see it. Rapidly shipping from Newegg

-Solid Aluminum-Built-in power provide demands no wall wart and makes use of a regular pc power cable.-Combo eSATA & USB None yet I've applied the older IDE / USB versions of this and figured this one particular would be a winner as well. Looks wonderful with a black blu ray drive. Converts any internal blu ray burner into external for half the value of an external blu ray.

Comment:
Nice flat black color, has a fan for cooling, has eSATA and USB connection. The unit doesn't use a energy brick, which could be a pro or a con based on how you look at it. I think the greatest reason for the fan is to cool the energy converter considering that the three-prong power cord just plugs into the back of the enclosure. At least it feels good and snug, unlike some enclosure DIN kind connectors that like to come out if you move the enclosure around. That fan isn't TOO loud, I can hear it with the computer system off, but with the computer system on, it gets lost in the other noise. I didn't want it, but it comes with an adapter to give your technique an eSATA connector if your mobo didn't have 1 built in. Tiny hassle putting it together. I like the way the AMS enclosures perform where you just slide the drive into the back and screw it all together, but this works. I wasn't planning on employing the rear audio jack to listen to music off of the Pioneer BD-203 that I put into it, and just as well as I couldn't get the brief audio cable to fit quickly into the back of the drive, so I left it unplugged. The con side to not having a power brick would be that you have less cord to play with, with a brick you normally have the cable running from the power plug to the brick, and then the cord from the brick to the enclosure. As long as your power is three or four feet away, you'll be ok with this. Fantastic enclosure, appears to be undertaking a fantastic job immediately after utilizing it for a few days.
