Cons: Only 120GB, small capacity VS cost. But what the hell, you want to play, you gotta pay.

Pros: Very small, low heat. Very fast.
Comment:
This is the first SSD I have tried and am 100% satisfied with performance. Much faster than any HDD I have. I installed my OS only on it (Win7Pro-64)and a couple important programs, namely BF2 and BBC2. My documents and the rest of low priority programs reside on a partitioned HDD. Seems to be a good configuration

Cons: Price

Pros: FastBest of the Vertex 1st Gens'Relatively' affordable compared to other 100GB SSDsIndilinx controller has great garbage collection, even in RAID 0
Comment:
OCZ has been one of the best SSD providers on the market. The Vertex 120 is as close to the X-25 Intel as you're going to find performance wise, but has quite a bit better capacity. The Indilinx barefoot controller has way better properties than the JMicron or Sandforce in TRIM and garbage collection. If you're going to RAID SSDs vertex is the only way to go.

Cons: Annoying mail in rebates, no case badge.

Pros: fast reads, decent writes and cheap.
Comment:
I bought one of these and have been very happy with it. I couldn't believe how fast my computer boots up!!! It was easy to install and haven't any issue with it. Getting the MIR was a pain though.I would recommend these to anyone and want to buy another one.

Cons: Expensive still given that this model has been out for awhile

Pros: Fast, silent
Comment:
Got the drive for 399.00 and it has been rock solid for more than 1/2 a year. It's read speeds hit around the 200MBps mark and the write speeds for me hit around the 160MBps mark. A well performing drive. if you have the money it is worth the performance increase, as games and game levels load very quickly. It would be nice if the prices come down one day, but...for now it is a great choice in this price range

The Acer Aspire with Windows 7 starter booted a little faster, but not enough to justify the huge cost. Battery life on the Aspire was somewhat better. Cloning and swap went OK so it seems to be compatible with the hard drive originally installed.

Cons: You have to buy a separate 2.5" to 3.5" adapter to install it in a desktop.

Pros: Fast!Great price with the MIR!Came with the latest firmware already installed (FW1.5) with TRIM (Win7 needed for TRIM support)!!!Great support from OCZ forums for "how-to" guides and help!
Comment:
I just installed it and I was glad to see that it came with the latest firmware (version 1.5)that supports TRIM in Windows 7.No issues with the installation, it's pretty much straightforward, but you have to read a little bit on SSD's prior to install. I installed Win7 Home Premium 64bits on it.It's really fast, applications open up right away, games initiate faster and game levels are loading faster too.

Cons: Slower then the Intel x25-M.

Pros: Great performance at a good price. Good Linux support in teh OCZ forums.
Comment:
This is one of the fastest drives out there, second only to teh Intel x25-M. At 299$ with MIR, I had to pick it up. Use it as my boor drive + games in windows 7. Boot performance is not much better in windows 7, but applications load much faster. The biggest improvement is in games, where are transitions are almost seamless, and load time are drastically cut down. For a gamer, I would say this should be your 2nd upgrade after a GPU.I should note that I did not do a cleaninstall of windows 7. I used the backup and restore built in to win 7. This drive shipped with firmware 1.5

Pros: -quicker boot times and applications loading-quiet-lower power consumption
Comment:
Bought the drive to see the speed boosts and its pretty good. Everything feels much quicker. One thing I didn't like was the hassle of updating the firmware. It should be fine now but I had to wait for OCZ to have their firmware updated to include the updater for my type of ssd.

Wow what an improvement over conventional HDD's in terms of speed - cold boots into Win 7 X64 Professional in about 20-30 seconds from Bios Post. Only problem is they are still really pricey so I have conventional HDD's for storage of music, photo and non-critical program files

It supports TRIM and shipped with firmware v1.4. Very fast and a large SSD. I am very impressed with my boot times and in game load times. I'll probably never use a platter drive for my OS drive again. I did grab it for 376 bucks with MIR before the price went up.

I absolutely love this SSD. It's very fast, especially with the random access and I'm getting about 227MBs Seq. Read. Setup with no fuss in my laptop, Gateway P172S FX, running Win7. It shipped with Firmware 1.4 so TRIM is active and working. The price has gone up a bit, but if you can afford it, you should get it.

Cons: None, except for price, but the price is worth it IMO.

Pros: Stupid fast.

All these years we've been upgrading CPU's RAM, bus interfaces, etc etc. NOTHING I have upgraded in the past 5 years makes as much of a difference as this SSD!I bought two and put them in RAID0, and the speed is even sweeter. Loading games is much faster, Win7x64 boot is a few seconds, etc. These should have been available 5 years ago.Data processing a large number of small files at work used to take 2 minutes on my 7200 platter drive - - it is now only 6 SECONDS! That's a TWENTY-fold increase in efficiency/speed!If you're a gamer or power user/hard drive thrasher, do not feel bad about spending the money - you're helping this tech develop and in a few years we'll be laughing at the idiocy of platter drives.

Comment:
I've read other reviews that talk about how complicated it is to use one of these - and I think its only complicated if you're running on XP. There's something about how the drives don't ship aligned properly that you have to fix if you're running xp. Windows 7 and Vista do this automatically so you don't have to worry about it. Also, vista and 7 have specific ssd features that support the different operating style of SSDs. There's something called TRIM that this device is supposed to support over the next 2 months. This TRIM operation is supposed to restore the drive to full new speeds and keep it that way through the life of the drive. Some of the other drives do not support this operation and their performance will degrade over time. I had no issues installing it and have had no stability issues. I have installed windows vista 64 and all my programs on it and use a separate hdd for data and documents. My computer runs much faster than it did on an hdd

This drive is probably the fastest thing out there, beside the Intel SSD. Everything just feels “snappier”. You might need to tweak a few things (e.g.: disable defrag) depending on the OS version you’re using, and OCZ offers a great support forum if you have any questions.

Cons: For an SSD, none, really

Pros: Blazing speedCompletely silentOCZ's wiper tool and excellent firmware support
Comment:
If you build a recent system with either a Phenom II or a C2Q / i7, using a mechanical drive is going to bottleneck your system. Here comes SSDs. And no SSD comes in a better price/performance ration than OCZ's Vertex.Well, I can't say much about the drive except one thing: I never wait. Levels in games load excessively fast. Windows answers before I know I clicked a second time on an icon. Boot time is very fast with W7 64bit, and the "application loading wait time" after the desktop appears is inexistant. All you have to do is to use the wiper tool every month, and everything gets peachy again. SSD lose performance over time, when they get "fragmented" (different phenomenon than HDDs, but still it's about the same effect). OCZ's wiper tool, available at their website, returns your drive to it's factory speed in a matter of minutes. Also, they give excellent firmware support and their customer service is unmatched. This thing is fast. Huge reduction in startup and shutdown times under win 7. Big win in battery life aslo. Very expensive, a good 7200 rpm drive will give you 80% of the performance at a much cheaper price. Died after about 5 weeks. RMA with OCZ was painless to start, BUT they have had the old drive for a week, and have not sent the replacement. GRRRRR. OCZ claims they are doing end of month inventory and will ship as soon as they are done and have some in stock!? Considering that these thing cost as much as a netbook, I expected better turn around.

Pros: SpeedPower ConsumptionNoise
Comment:
This thing is a beast. SSDs are the best thing to come along since the Intel spat out the i7. Although the Vertex is not the top of the line of anything, it does an amazing job. I think the Vertex is the best speed for it's price at the time of this review. The Summit is also very good for speed to price ratio. I grabbed the Vertex because it's near $100 cheaper. The Summit does have that extra 64MB of cache, but definately not worth the extra $100. SSDs work extremely well when it's in RAID0, boy is it fast. The two things that I have a grudge against this thing is the small amount of storage space and the fact that it doesn't come with a 3.5" mounting kit, I had to seperately buy that. Overall I am extremely satisfied. I'll probably use this until the Colossus 1TB SSD come down in price or something better and cheaper comes along.

Cons: Cost vs standard HDD

Pros: Speed, Power consumption, Noise and ease of instalation
Comment:
SSDs are probably the most significant upgrade for any mordern computer and the vertex is one of the best.Instalation was as simple as plug and play - Computer boots up in seconds and is extremely responsive, I would never go back to a standard HDD as a boot drive. The 120g hardrive allows for instalation of all necessary software for work and play. This coupled with a WD Caviar green for secondary storage allows for a speedy primary drive and a high capacity secondary with low power consumption. Win win in my books

The performance so far has been very good! I installed this drive in a MacBook, 2.4GHz Core 2 Duo, 4GB DDR3 and the performance is better than the original HD. One of the main reasons I installed the drive was to increase the speed of the start and stop of VMWare VM's. All of the VM's run great on this drive and so far I have not suffered any potential performance hit based on the lack of ill fated TRIM command. Hopefully Apple will provide a TRIM command before I realize the performance degradation.

Very fast drive. Don't expect everything to be instant, though. Read speed for me is around 210-220 MB/s. The drive is a little big for my T400's hard drive housing, which is the only downside.

Pros: superb product , fast, smooth, responsive
Comment:
I installed Windows 7RC 64bit on this. Very nice, smooth , responsive. What I didn't like and I think OCZ could offer as a selling point , is a decent converter bracket for these 2.5 in drives. I was given a Silverstone adapter bracket which really is not compatable with my Antec 1200 case, it was a headache to get this thing mounted .Installation went flawlessly, as in, my mobo and Windows had absolutely no issues.I would highly recommend this product if you want a feeling of seemless responsiveness. The achilles heel of all computers was the HD, finally they are addressing this issue.....nice..no more moving , whirring parts. I purchased and installed Windows Vista Home x64 on this drive a few weeks ago.Two words to describe  this drive : freaking crazy. You can upgrade your system as much as you want, with the latest and newest gear - and you will see marginal performance gains. Install a solid state drive as your main hdd - and it takes it to another level. This drive is not for the "average" non-technical computer user. To get the most out of this drive, there is a few things you have to do in order to maximize it's performance. This includes updating to the newest firmware (although, the newest shipped drives are a lot easier than the older models.. no need for jumpers / etc)The unit I received had the latest firmware already on it.There are a lot of performance tweaks for your operating system (no matter what flavor you run). The good part : it is all easily obtainable information from the OCZ website. Easily read guides, step-by-step instructions, made it incredibly easy to configure. I personally like figuring out how things work and do performance tweaks (etc) so it was interesting for me to do anyways.. however I would understand a lot of users would not want to do that much research to replace a hard drive. This is a kick-ass product, I highly recommend this for the "power user" or "gamer" who wants the best performance from their system.Cheers.
