I am running Ubuntu Linux 9.ten as alpha (after reading its help of the P55 chipset was ideal). Every little thing appears to be working and steady out of the box, even suspend which is a feature I enjoy. On-board sound is superior than I anticipated and I will use this more than my SB Live card. I am possessing some troubles getting the sound drivers in my Virtualbox sessions of XP and Win7 to work devoid of crackling, hopefully this will clear itself up once 9.ten comes out of beta. I have enabled all the board capabilities with my i5 CPU like Green Power, EIST, Turbo, and C-state devoid of concern. I set CPU Clever Fan Target 45c and fan min speed to 50% and I don’t assume I have ever heard it completely spool up. I went with my own thermal paste as an alternative of the stock though. The machine idles at 75watts and seems to max at about 125watts. I am utilizing a fan-much less MSI N9400GT that runs all the 3D desktop effects out of the box in Ubuntu. I haven’t tried to over-clock but. Testing with geekbench shows that it is 7x more quickly than my old AMD 1600+ box running stock, so I may well wait to see how others do.

Low cost, good possibilities, very good seeking board. O.C. Genie doesn't perform on mine. Just crashes Windows 7. I could be carrying out a thing wrong but since you just push a button, I consider not. M.S.I assistance was incredibly fast but they told me to use the application rather. :( No regrets. very good board, runs quick, good layout.

OC Genie, MSI utilizes high quality components. Lacks 1394a and eSATA. The Actual killer here is that MSI tends to make the MSI P55M-GD45, which expenses the Similar as this board correct now on Newegg, and HAS 1394a Firewire. What kills me about this board is seeing the spot for the 1394a pins, with the pins missing.

This board does every thing id anticipate it to. I dont need to have sli trigger one particular card is sufficient to max out anything. The colors scheme is pretty cool and it matches almost everything else in my case. The OC genie blue screened me soon after bumping my i7 from 2.8 to 3.7. It may be my ram or anything, ill verify it out later im a little bummed about the oc genie but my cpu is rapid even without it

Study the spec sheet. For the cost this is an exceptional mid-grade motherboard. MSI has usually been fantastic to me. That aside my overview will be as objective as I can make it.I use a wireless network card and PCI sound card, so obtaining three full sized PCI slots is a plus. The board supports a wide variety of the current processors and memory so you can commence smaller sized and less expensive and upgrade later when you have the spending budget for it.Due to only obtaining a single PCIex slot I would advocate a lynfield core for it's internal PCIex interface. If you're going to have only 1 GPU you could as properly make it scream from each angle.I haven't more than-clocked something but even though MSI boards have generally been straightforward to over-clock from my knowledge. When I finish the 'burn-in' and the thermal paste settles I will begin cranking points up. These aren't so considerably genuine 'cons' as it is a preliminary critique of the board:The board itself is border-line micro ATX. It is substantially shorter than my previous full ATX board. This causes a handful of difficultiesɅ.) The CPU is extremely close to the back-plane of the board which limits the size of your heatsink/fan/rear-exhaust fans.2.) The front SATA ports are recessed (due to a shorter board) and therefore a huge video card will overhang them3.) There are only two fan controllers, a 3-pin technique fan and a 4-pin CPU fanfour.) The 4-pin CPU Energy plug is to the left of the CPU itself which locations it beneath the rear fan, once more limiting the size of your rear exhaust.Windows 7 - 64 bit does not have a driver for the secondary SATA ports. I had to use an additional computer to copy the drivers to a flash drive in order to pre-set up them throughout the technique load. I've noticed some men and women bemoaning the lack of a 1394 port. I wasn't aware that men and women nevertheless utilized 1394. It's like the "beta-max" of the laptop planet. I've by no means applied it and don't know everyone who has, so who cares? Typically anything that comes with 1394 also comes with USB suitable next to it, so just use the USB.The same thing goes with the parallel port. Although superior to serial connections, the technologies is so outdated you ought to be upgrading your parallel equipment, not attempting to make the board adapt to you. If you truly need to use the older technologies, find an older board that supports it.The small size of the board tends to make it fantastic for smaller sized instances, but at the exact same time just about demands a larger case so you have additional room to route cables. I have a Corsair H50 heatsink that operates fine with one particular fan; On the other hand a push-pull config would have the inside fan actually touching the CPU block since the board is so cramped.

Solid motherboard for the price tag, compatible with inexpensive ram, lots of sata ports and bios has a lot of attributes you wouldn't anticipate from an entry level board. I built two computer systems working with this board. 1 of them had the "usb" bug talked about in some of the reviews, exactly where some of the rear usb ports would just reduce out. I managed to fix the situation with some updates, so I wouldn't take away an egg for that. If you intend on developing a Computer from scratch you ought to know how to repair minor troubles that come up. I would certainly purchase this board once again. This was my initial time employing an MSI board and I was impressed with how simply and error free of charge anything went.

i didn't will need a function heavy mobo and this performs that function well. with sandy bridge and the new sockets coming out quickly, i just wanted a thing that was very good adequate since my mobo would want replacing with my next upgrade. this board even has an OC genie button that finds the sweet spot for OC'in your cpu, don't know if it functions, but it has it. also has a + and - button on the mobo to increase your base frequencies by 1 to custom OC your cpu. bare minimum of a p55 board, but that's what i wanted. simple board that gets the job accomplished and that's what i required.

- Great cost- Very awesome overclocking tools. OC Genie is really underrated. None so far. I was very skeptical about the OC Genie at first, and began undertaking my overclocking as I generally do with any other mb. Soon after a even though I thought I'd try engaging the OC Genie just to see how well it does. The OC Genie is virtually a 1-button automatic Overclocking tool. I could in all probability know absolutely nothing about overclocking and I'd still have a quite properly overclocked method just by pressing that button.

Wonderful onboard sound, nice and spaced out. I like the SATA ports on the "side" of the board, mainly because it funnels all the SATA cables off to the side of the mobo, keeping issues nice and tidy. 10 USB ports!!?!! A lot, which is a plus I suppose. I can't think of any so far. This motherboard was bought for the 3rd personal computer that I've personally constructed, and its by far the nicest and fastest board that I've purchased. I don't genuinely have a use for the OC button or anything like that since I'm operating an i7 which is beastly rapid anyway. Nonetheless a great board, with excellent onboard capabilities.

Great price tag! I didn’t wanna devote too substantially funds going into subsequent-gen so I bought this and an i5 750. OC Genie pushes up to a respectable 3.4Ghz and who can be mad about that? None As an additional reviewer said, make certain to populate black RAM slots first, or you won’t get a POST

10 USB ports on the back, with the capability for front panel. Has the auto-overclock ability (which I neither want nor want), great value, and tiny footprint. No 1394, and...the USB isn't just not working effectively. Initially, it wouldn't boot from a flash drive. Keyboards had problems in- and outside of the BIOS. Challenges in any operating method. Wouldn't detect mass storage devices, phones, etc. This occurred with each the rear and front ports--it was not discriminating in its want to not function. Outdoors of this horrible USB issue I have had no other challenges. Yet, this is an overriding challenge and it is causing me nothing but challenges. I will be contacting Newegg about this, as it is barely usable. Manufacturer Response:Dear Valued MSI Client,We would like to apologize for the challenge you have experienced with this unique mb. low-cost..... Didn't like my energy provide, replaced it, was really picky about the seating of the ram, 4 sticks of Gskill Eco cas 7 I paid a lot for and had to play shuffle the ram till the MB was happy. Would not run at all with my 3com Wireless card, and last but not least, the Video card errors if screws are tight, had to leave it slightly drop to get it operating......

Fantastic board for the value. Installed it and fired it up with no problems at all. Also, put this board in an additional pc and it functions just as properly no difficulties. Lots of USB ports which I don't seriously want. Straightforward to overclock. I'm operating an I5 and four gigs of ram and absolutely nothing slows it down actually wonderful to develop on. A single PCI slot. I didn't assume it would be a massive deal due to the fact my present setup can run something I throw at it. It would be nice to know I could run SLI configuration, live and find out haha RAM is DDR3 only personally I don't see a massive distinction in performance for the cost.

Lots of USB ports As a different assessment has talked about, this motherboard appears to have faulty USB ports. For some purpose, it won't recognize my android phone.. and even worse, it intermittently loses connection to my USB wifi adapter (sometimes it occurs 10 occasions in 30 minutes, or other times it's as soon as a day only). This truly sucks when I'm either gaming or downloading a file that can\'t be resumed. At very first I believed it was my router, but following finding a new one particular, the issue still persists. The guy who posted just just before me is incorrect. Look harder. This board has _two_ accessible 3 pin fan slots (configurable in the bios 50%ኧ%럼%), and the PWM four pin CPU fan slot (also 50ኧ럼). It might be useful to say that the BIOS has optional temperature controlled fan speed settings for the CPU (which I'm working with).I am personally using two three pin splitter wires so I can run 4 case fans off the two three pin fan slots. So, I don't need a fan controller to transform the speed and don't require to run any software to control it. Just use the BIOS. The 4 pin CPU fan slot I have devoted only to the CPU.Also, the points he complained about for the layout would be distinct to his specific case and components. CPU fan connector blocking back? I can't even fully grasp how that would be achievable, the fan connector is far and away. I haven't had any of those difficulties. However, it is true that a mid to substantial graphics card makes it hard to access some of the SATA slots, but they are not blo see my previous assessment
