This charger use 4 AA batteries. Can be alkaline or rechargeable. Compare to most other power pack with build in battery, they cost $40 or more. Even adding the cost of 4 rechargeable AAs, this one still cheaper. And those chargers will die in 2 years because of the battery life end. This one will last a lot longer, just replace the batteries, makes a lot of sense.This charger comes with a micro USB cable. That already worth a few dollar. The charge has LED flash light. Even the charger is too low on power to charge my phone, it is still good enough to use as flash light. Very good.4 AAs do not give too much power. Only add 50% to my S3. But that's not bad at all. Even a $40 charger cannot do any better.The inner case is made out of plastic. Which is a little bit fragile, tight too. The outer case is made by aluminum, which is strong. Together, it feels very solid. Size is easy to carry.The micro USB port can charge the AA batteries directly. But I never try it. Don't just trust the word from the manufacturer. But that's a good feature though.This charger can be a good regular back up power pack to extend your smart phone usage. Compare to the other one of the same brand that use 2 AA batteries, that one can be an emergency power supply.Overall, I am very happy with this product. I do not need to wait for the batteries to be charged, just change to a fresh set and leave the old one to charge. Then I am ready to go. I rate this charger the best over all the others.
