Cons: Service is an unknown at this time, but not much online from Acer. Luckily there are good WHS specific sites.

Pros: Price, build quality, preconfigured - good OOTBE [out of the box experience]
Comment:
Have installed 2 units in clients sites - as a background have worked in mult-user, server based environments for over 20 years, so following review based on more than just minor experience.Need in one situation was for a cost effective server running MS SQL Express. The conventional alternatives were extremely costly, given that MSSQL Express is free from MS. Thought the cost for the Acer was worth experimenting and found lots of online discussions around the installation procedure. Application runs as a web service and after 3 months is running smoothly. For a small office -

I have my own computer business. A competitor sold an h340 to a shop in town and they had nothing but issues. The competitor stopped giving service to the shop so they turned to me. I had to send the unit 3 times to acer within 1 month. First time they didnt change the right part, and the 2 other times they had to change the motherboard. Also Acer Technical Support LVL 1 is in India and they dont even know that the 340 is a server and doesnt have a VGA/mouse/keyboard connection. They tell you to press F8 on startup !!!...anyway...LVL 2 is in USA which isnt much better. For all the hours ive put in that piece of crap the shop gave the unit to me. I sold them a new HP EX495 which is Awesome. No connection problem or anything...and also I know that HP's tech support is 523454325 times better. Again DO NOT BUY THIS PRODUCT. I dont have a ORDERID since I didnt bought it through NCIX, the shop did...so Ill have to quote it 3 stras but its not even worth 1. Also, NCIX has absolutely nothing to do with this unit's problems.

Cons: None aside from what seems to be an excessively long load time for the Windows Home Server Console, which I seem to never use anyway.

Pros: One of the best 'out of the box' product experiences I have had the pleasure of enjoying, getting it with the bonus drive makes it even better. A snap to setup, the small size and modest db levels are a plus, easy on the electric bill. I have this unit backing up 2 laptops and one desktop, also serving audio and video to a home theater.
Comment:
Be sure that if you are doing a wireless network that you are prepared to cable up for the first backup procedure. Large installs or file collections may fail to complete if you have any hiccups in your wireless network. This is for the first backup only, every backup since has been flawless in my case, ymmv.Very happy and it's an Acer to boot!

Cons: mine went out of commission in 6 months. Sent it back for repair, and came back still crappy and slow. Acer customer service is horrible. Nobody you talk to speaks a lick of English and its like pulling teeth to talk to someone that knows what they are talking about. I will not buy an Acer product again.

Pros: Size, 4 trays
Comment:
In other words, don't waste your time. Im sure there is another company out there that will represent their products better.

Great little box for what it does. I have mine streaming videos/music to my popcorn hours C200 and A110. Transfers are around 60-80MB/sec copying to the internal drives. Works with the mediasonic HF2-SU2S2 4bay box plugged into esata to add 4 additional drives.

Cons: Jbod?

Pros: Can be utilized as much more than a NAS
Comment:
For the price point this little box is magical. ive had mine for 10 months and ive got it going tons. it downloads my media, sorts it, shares it, and runs nmtserver (a video jukebox for the popcorn hour). Jbod is the only drawback if you can even call it a drawback. the intel atom processor seems to bottle neck most file transfers at around 60-65MB/Sec over Gbit LAN. I would suggest grabbing a few addins once you buy this. they is a fairly large community on the net, and lots of support for this box.

This is a great NAS for the price. Perfect for home use. I have 3 PCs and 2 lap-tops on my network and this gadget does a great job backing them up. I added 1 tb hard drive and it took a few minutes to configure it, and I was up and running, ready to install the connection software to all 5 computers. Remote access was a bit tricky to set up as my router had to be manually configured using port forwarding. The UnPn function on my router didn't seem to work. I have a business class netgear 210AP. Over all this Windows Home Server works great. Highly recommended.

Cons: The blue lights are bright and although they can be adjusted, they go back to their full brightness if you reboot the server.Must reformat everything if you add a new hard drive.

Pros: Aesthetically pleasing, compactIncredibly easy to useAutomated daily backups from computersCan use different size HDs
Comment:
I'll never live without a NAS (network access server) again. It's so convenient for backups and storing files (pictures, documents, videos, etc.).I use two 1TB drives and one 500GB drive, all different brands. Works fine. However, if I insert  a new drive, I must reformat the entire server. In that case I would have to backup 2.5TB of files to another computer/server during the reformat. Such is the nature of the JABOD (it's not RAID).The drive bays feel like cheap plastic once you open them but I haven't had any problems.

This is a good product, at a good price.I can't access it remotely, but I think is due to my router... not UPnP (compatible with home server). This server is easy to manage and very easy to setup.I'm using Windows7 on my laptop and I doens't got any problem.

Pros: Great Value, ease of use, lots of potential storage
Comment:
Very happy with the purchase so far. For the price the acer is a really excellent value. It may not come with some of the add ons the HP home servers do, but you can get those from third party developers. I'm also impressed by the speed of this unit. I upgraded from a Dlink 323 and there is a massive different between the two in transfer rates and responsiveness (as one would expect given the diff in hardware). Cons: VERY badly designed drive trays.

Pros: Small, simple and easy to use
Comment:
If it wasn't for the badly designed drive trays, I would give this a 5 star rating. But the trays are so crappy that it just dropped to 3. 2 of the drive tray doors snapped when removing the tray for the first time. The other 2 appear to have cracks that I'm sure will also snap over time. I haven't used excessive force, and have been very delicate with them. It seems like a combination of too brittle plastic and a fit that is too tight for the pin that get press-fitted into the holes. I have read other complaints about the same issue, so I know I'm not the only one. What's the point of having removable drives if you can't take them out without breaking something? The rest of the unit is really well designed. Everything is simple, and very easy to use.

Cons: Poor integration with Linux/Mac

Pros: Easy setup, fully-automated backups of Windows PCs, hot-plug-in new drives
Comment:
I'm _very_ happy with this product. It's a real time-saver vs. the traditional DIY RAID-based NAS's out there, and it's ability to automate backups is better than any host-based software I've ever used.

Cons: small pain in the ass removing Mcafee, but once out using remote desktop good to go.

Pros: Nice quality, clean look, QUIET, 4 bays, cheaper than a DROBO, includes 1 TB drive, GB ethernet, backs up may computers on any schedule I like, affordable ($370 on labourday sale), can't go wrong...
Comment:
I'd buy again d less than $380, current 1 TB drives on sale are $80, so for what works out to $300 I get a server that has auto backup back up and 4 drive bays that are all accessible from any computer in my house, or the internet if I want. NICE clean set up. And my PS3 and Itunes can access the data as well. Happy

Cons: Print serving functionality is non-existent in the WHS console. LED brightness is adjustable, but the setting resets every time the server restarts and the LEDs are bright.

Pros: Compact, quiet, nice looking and unbeatable price. WHS lets you do a lot of stuff really easily including backups, remote access and secure user accounts. Very fast over gigabit. Ideal for serving media throughout the home.
Comment:
I am super happy with this little server, especially given the price point. I had been looking to build an Atom server in line with the HP offerings for a long time but couldn't find the combo of chassis and components that would let me stack similar storage into a similar footprint... And then the Acer came along.I haven't seen anything else in the market that offers so much for so little, and I love the fact that it uses a 120mm fan for cooling unlike some other offerings. You can't hear the PSU fan at all, as far as I can tell. Overall, the server is very quiet. Under HDD operation, it sounds like a coffee percolator or something. I really like WHS and the wide range of services it offers with minimal setup or install, and I love the superb selection of add-ins available as well. Works with all your XP+ computers and makes a great little addition to your Xbox. The WHS client app is very nice as well. Makes accessing files easier for computer illiterates. On the other hand, the one service that's really lacking is print serving. The WHS console just isn't that well designed to make setting up a print server easy. This is a feature you'd expect a lot of people would value, but then it's a WHS problem and not an Acer problem. Expect to spend some time using remote desktop and force-installing XP drivers and whatnot if you want to get a printer working. And keep your fingers crossed hoping it works. Also keep in mind that if you want to use remote access a lot or serve data/webpages to friends or whatnot, their download speed will be heavily limited by your upload speed. 512kbps upload, silly blue cable company? Welcome to 1998.One final thing to keep in mind is that shadow copying is disabled by default for some reason so you should turn it on ASAP upon getting your server set up. This is amazingly stupid since the point of the server is to protect against data loss and the most likely reason for data loss is inadvertent deletions by users. Doesn't affect your computer backups, but does affect your shares.Overall, this product is excellent. Mine gets a lot of use and I am almost totally satisfied with it. The Atom might be a touch underpowered but then this thing isn't meant to handle high I/O anyway.

Cons: No web based interface.

Pros: Powerful and flexible NAS device. Lots of add-on software available for the device. In fact, you can run many (not all - some low-level system tools are not compatible) standard Windows applications on it!
Comment:
Overall I'm very happy with my WHS server. The device does require some networking/windows knowledge to manage, but overall for a "Microsoft" product, it's quite good.Works as expected, I think it'll be more than adequate for most people's backup/storage needs. Been a great server for the past 3 months. Easy to set up to do daily back ups of our home computers. I am able to store all my media on it and still use my Xbox 360 Media Center Extender to view it all.Setting up web access was a snap and I was easily able to have a place for my Parents to back up their files over the internet.

Cons: Tends to run at higher temps.

Pros: Simple to use
Comment:
I am not exactly an expert when it comes to servers and such and I had this up and running, sharing files within minutes of opening the box. Drive installation/removal is so simple. My only issue is the higher temps that it runs at but a new 120mm fan should fix that.Absolutely worth the money, even without the bonus drive.

Cons: CPU somewhat hot (~67 celcius), but still reasonableThe MediaServer/DLNA server software should be removed/replaced.

Pros: Price (with the 2TB deal)Relative low power consumptionExcellent performances (~55MB/s)Stream HD content without any hitchRuns Windows Home Server (nice backup and duplication system)Silent (as long the harddrive aren't seeking for something)Doesn't come with too much useless software (compared to HP)
Comment:
If you compare the price of the HP Server, the EasyStore is a pretty good deal even without the 2TB deal. To my surprise the single core Atom 1.6GHz have enough processing power to do the job. You can push easily 55MB/s and the Home Server Console is as responsible as my other more powerfull server (Core2Duo). The CPU temperature is pretty hot, but I guess Acer's engineer know what they are doing. The unit (box) itself is warm most of the time (right now at 33 celcius). It only came slighlty hot (a bit more than body temperature) after transfering 1.3 terabytes of data. This review was modfied by poster @ 05-06-09 08:30 AM
