I really liked this case! Has some rubber washers you spot amongst the screws when installing the drive. It give it a little much more shock resistance. Straightforward install. Adore becoming capable to use USB, firewire or esata. Preparing on getting a lot more. The light is quite vibrant, but its very easily unplugged in the course of installation. The case doesn't look as well pretty on the outside, but other than that, its a great solution! Arranging on purchasing additional.

Well Produced all Metal case, with desired Triple Interfce Eata, USB2, Firewire400 at a modest price. There are handful of option. This ones is beneath โ delivered. As other people are noted Cables are quick and tortured (reversed path). One wants to take a a couple of minute of to cautiously bend the power and sata cables (not from the connectors) It is easy enough to do just take your time. Your buying this or a comparable case mainly because want a triple interface and you do not want economical Mybook or Agent (WD or Seagate) equivalent because of the built it auto sleep they insist in putting on the WD and Seagate Circumstances rather then a straight on/off switch. This technology functions but can be flaky. I Had far better luck with the WD one then the Seagate but still returned it.When you roll your own you get to pick the size and speed of drive, warranty and so forth. Then you need to choose a case like this.

triple interfaces tends to make this a quite versatile enclosure. For testing, I place a 320GB Seagate drive in it and did not have an troubles. The drive mounting features shock absorbing connections that must maintain the drive noise to a minimum. For my testing, the spin up/spin down noise was the loudest. While operating the noise was quite low. Performance is in-line with my expectations. (See Other Thoughts for some benchmark numbers.) The drive comes with eSata, USB and FireWire cables. The cables appear to be of decent top quality. As described by other folks, the LED is substantial and bright. I have a bunch of external enclosures and it appears that the engineers favor big and bright these days. The drive mounts using some silicone kind shock absorbers. Even though I do not pound the drive I put in this enclosure, I worry that the isolation will negate some of the positive aspects of the aluminum case. Dead air is a poor transmitter of heat. I would be happier if the drive had some speak to with the case to transfer heat directly. I would have provided it a five if there were much better heat transfer between the drive and the case. I did some benchmarking utilizing QuickBench. Making use of the USB connection and my Mac Mini, I got ㅈMBps sequential reads. With the FireWire, I got ㅞMBps. I got this enclosure since I strategy on making use of a 750GB Seagate drive as a media storage drive for the mini. I at present have that drive in a NexStar 3 USB/eSata enclosure, but the mini does not have an eSata port. The NexStar three with the 750GB drive and USB tops out at 18MBps on sequential reads.

Solid building, substantial, dissipates heat nicely, relatively easy installation at a incredibly nice value. I have 3 of these items, and I've by no means had a difficulty with them. Whenever I will need a new external drive I get 1 of these babies. They're great! I use the Firewire (IEEE1394) connector, and they constantly execute properly. The indicator light is a small bright. It's not worth deducting an egg, but if you're sitting in an otherwise dark room with one of these on, you could just about study a book by the light of the indicator light.

Arrived in very good shape adequately packed. Packagin is incredibly complete with all accessories you may well require. Instructions are super clear and uncomplicated to comply with. You only want a fine tip phillips screwdriver and in about 1 minute you will be ready to go. I like the style and the way it is place with each other. All the components fit effectively and the cables are good and sturdy. It looks pretty fantastic too, and is apparently going the job as I format my Samsung F1 TB. Very uncomplicated to put with each other if you spend focus to what you are carrying out. The silicon retainer washers will not preserve the drive from slipping out of the tray if the enclosure is put upside down or offered a a sharp knock. I would not want to use this enclosure if I were transporting my drive to and from operate/school what ever simply because it could effortlessly get loose and beat against the inside of the enclosure. I study all the testimonials on this and other eSATA enclosures and come across some of the comments by others a bit misleading. Calling the PCB flimsy appears a bit harsh...it's a circuit board...also if you are obtaining trouble sliding the tray back in (metal shavings lol) you are simply not paying attention to how it goes back together. I can't see how puting with each other an external drive could be any simpler....

Inexpensive, triple interfaces, solidly built. Says it doesn't contain an eSATA cable, but mine came with 1 in the box. No fan, so it's quiet, but it stays pretty cool even even though copying many hundred gigs to the drive. The SATA cable connecting the drive to the enclosure is fairly short and stiff. It needs a half twist to plug in both ends, which puts some strain on the connectors. It also sticks up a bit, so I had to be gentle sliding the top rated back on. My original program was to swap drives in and out as required, but I assume frequently messing with that connector will outcome in early failure. It's as well poor Macally didn't use a custom cable of just the right length that didn't call for twisting and had a little more flex to it.It would have been good to have Firewire 800, but I suppose there's only so considerably area on the back.

Barring the SATA cable, uncomplicated to get the case open and mount the tough drive in it. Firewire 400 transfer speeds are all round fantastic, got roughly 50MB/s transfer over the network to it by way of gigabit ethernet to the host personal computer to the drive. The price tag is fantastic for a USB2/Firewire 400/eSATA case. Incredibly uncomplicated to setup and use. Has a second firewire port for daisy-chaining a lot more devices. It's fairly compact also so it doesn't take up a lot of desk space. It can also be stacked with much more similarly sized drives or stood up on its side with the included stand (which seems quite stable). The status indicator light is a Very bright blue (and flashes red for activity). While this doesn't annoy me it might be bothersome for others. A post-it note more than it would solve any light leak difficulties individuals might have. The SATA cable for connecting the drive internally is incredibly stiff. I had to plug in the drive, barrel roll it 180 degrees due to the connector and drive connections not lining up and gently get the drive into the cradle although maintaining my fingers on the connector components so they didn't accidentally snap off. Also, the power cord is also really stiff and inflexible (but not terrible) from the A/C converter to the drive. Apart from the SATA cable issue with receiving the HD into the cradle, then acquiring the case to slide back over it, all worked effectively and took just a couple minutes. Thankfully the power connector it makes use of really loose and uncomplicated to bend wires so that one particular wasn't an problem. I haven't tested USB2. (Who in their appropriate thoughts would use that more than firewire if provided the solution?) nor eSATA (don't have a pc with eSATA). I'd envision eSATA may possibly be capable of sustaining quicker HDs in the case but firewire 400 works just fine for me. In all, the positives of this becoming a affordable combo case and ease of use effortlessly outshines the minor negatives.

I have 2 of these. The enclosure I received much more not too long ago (this week) has noticeable improvements over the older a single Ɠ weeks old) with respect to the layout and cabling inside. The power connector on the drive no longer nearly touches a header on the circuit board (which made insertion of the disk difficult just before). The SATA cable now plugs into a connector on the circuit board and is additional flexible. Still requires you to plug in the cables with the drive upside down, then flip the drive more than to mount it. Not confident that's one thing to be doing back and forth on a common basis with the SATA cable. I have 6 PATA enclosures of the identical loved ones, and they have performed with out a hitch over the years, making use of each Firewire and USB connections. On this one, I have started working with the eSATA connection which also worked with out a hitch. I seriously like these enclosures for not requiring a fan and becoming largely nicely-built (with the noted exception of internal cabling on earlier SATA ones).

As a technician, I get lots of enclosures for consumers. More than the past handful of years, I look to have problems finding excellent enclosures on newegg. They're costs are affordable but so is their good quality. These enclosures are it. Incredibly solid, really great make top quality. Quite versitile. They look good around macs. They function excellent. I'll be shopping for lots of MacAlly enclosures from now on. And most producers don't like firewire. Each mac made in the final 9 years or so has firewire. Like a lot of people say, the power/activity LED is seriously massive and really bright. I'm not going to take any stars off due to the fact of it, but depending on how/where you use this drive, the LED could be a cool function, or it could be an annoyance. Though, its super uncomplicated to unplug the LED anyway so in the finish, not a huge deal.

great sturdy and cool aluminum enclosure usb transfer rates are slow compared with what they ought to be. firewire speed crawls at close to zero. esata locks up my personal computer (of program this could be my end). The worst element is the drive just drops out each when in awhile. Its the worst when you are trying to watch a film you have to unplug the usb then plug it back in. was seeking for an enclosure with usb for compatability and esata for speed. I truly ended up with neither.

I haven't been using this heavily - it's acting as the movable, ad-hoc backup drive, so it's mostly been utilized with the USB interface. 1394 functions, though it turns out not to be worth carrying two cables around for the couple of machines with ports. Haven't gotten 'round to attempting the eSata but. It nonetheless wants the wall wart, even though that's probably much better than those 2xUSB monstrosities.

Have other macallay products, operate fantastic, uncomplicated setup, and so forth. Didn't think twice about ordering another macallay item when I necessary one. two months in, unit would intermittently unmount. Determined that it wasn't the drive and the unit itself. E-mailed to RMA. Took many back and forth e-mail's every single at 24-48 hours per reply to get an RMA issued. Sent the unit in ideal away. Week later I e-mail to get a status update, told they'd let me know, never hear back. At two weeks I call, told it has been out of stock, but ought to be in the next day and will ship out then and I'd get a discover...Absolutely nothing. At 3 weeks I contact again, nevertheless not in stock, but must be in "tomorrow" and I'll get a discover, Nada once more. So three weeks, no replacement item, and no sympathy. Scratch these guys off my list. Item worked good till it failed...

Swift and uncomplicated - operates the first time - been using these in a variety of types for years and never ever had 1 fail. Acquiring another these days. True about the reversed energy and information cables. BFD. The pc board was a normal thickness and strength. In no way had an external enclosure that didn't demand a format.I like the light that modifications color when drive is accessing. Considerably much better than the slow fade that some do.I buy the Seagate FreeAgent (highest capacity - for video servers) at the best cost I can come across (usually locally) and then rip the drive out of them, throw their situation away, and install it in 1 of these. Functions perfectly and then I get a number of access possibilities rather than just USB.

Low price SATA case with all the interfaces a user could want, including 2 FW400 ports for effortless daisy chaining. Straightforward to set up. Poor circuit board top quality. I have about 10 MacAlly circumstances that I use on a standard basis and for the most part I've been pleased with their item. Which is why when I necessary a situation for a 3.5" SATA drive I believed I'd try the MacAlly PHR-S100SUA. The initial a single I purchased operates but as somebody else noted the circuit board is flimsy and the unit was broken on arrival. I was in a position to get it working but it's fragile. The second unit I buy at the starting of December 2008. It worked well for about 6 weeks and then it died. I removed the drive from the MacAlly situation, plugged it into a WiebeTech SATA adaptor and found the drive itself was working fine. I've sent email off to MacAlly to see no matter whether they'll send a replacement.

Wonderful industrial style, triple interface, decent price tag. As others have talked about, the silicone tough drive mounts are a good function also. I have two of these enclosures, one with a Western Digital drive and the other with a Samsung, and after working with them for a couple of months the drives would in no way full a backup (using Time Machine). They both randomly eject or fully disappear as far as the personal computer was concerned. Even after exchanging one particular of the enclosures I have nevertheless had the similar issues. We use a few of these at the Mac repair shop where I operate to transfer data off tough drives from dead computers, and (at least as far as I'm conscious) they haven't offered us any difficulty. On the other hand, at least 1 of our buyers has come in with this enclosure describing related complications. I believe he was making use of it with Time Machine too. I don't know if the difficulties are connected to Time Machine especially, or perhaps leaving the drive on 24ǝ is the result in of the problems. Either way, it would almost certainly be greatest to keep away from this item.

The enclosure warms up with drive use, indicating that it's acting nicely as a heat sink. The included firewire cable was nice and extended. The drive access light is very big and goes amongst blue (idle) and red (access). Excellent price for a triple interface. Can be mounted vertically, or laid horizontally - rubber along the sides will enable the drive to get great airflow even if utilized horizontally. Out of four enclosures I've worked with so far, this a single has been the least friendly. The drive bay slips out of the enclosure in a quite strange way, as each the front and rear of the enclosure slip out. Aside from some slightly unclear instructions about the orientation of points, the drive bay had to be forced back into the enclosure (resulting in some metal shavings), and the enclosure mount had to be forced along (I was afraid of stripping the rubber off of the side). The substantial light isn't the brightest I've dealt with, but it will cast a dim light over a dark room. This is effortlessly the biggest of the four enclosures that I have on my desk. It's an overall good enclosure, but I'm dreading the day that I'll have to open it up to replace the drive inside...

- Solidly built, stand attaches very securely. - enclosure also sits properly on it's side and has traction on either side to make it not slide down inclines. - eSATA, 1394, and USB make it usable on my laptop (eSATA), operate pc 񡿲), and every person else's computers (USB) - the truth that I could put what ever - USB & eSATA connectors fit securely - Firewire connectors are not secure, could quickly be bumped out. I pretty much really feel like I'm bending the enclosure's circuit board. LED activity light is a extremely bright blue when on/ on standby, and red on read. Makes for a purple/magenta when transferring files.Firewire connector situation just signifies that you will need to be cautious, which you really should be anyway. Even with it, I haven't had any issues with connectors falling out. Would acquire again.

Low-cost. Has on/off switch, not just the power cable The SATA and SATA-power cables are on the opposite side of the case from the drive, so you have to twist them to plug them in. And no, you can't just turn the drive over, mainly because of where the screw holes are. The SATA cable is as well long, so if you don't very carefully squish it down when placing the case back together, it gets riped from the circuit board. The drive is also not Wise or ATA7 compliant. I'm using it with a Seagate ST3750640AS. Plugged in by way of the enclosure using eSATA, smartctl reports ATAv6 and claims that Wise error log structure has an invalid checksum. Plugged in with out the enclosure, the same drive reports ATAv7 and all Intelligent functionality operates as expected. Possibly fine for the casual user, but be cautious placing it back together following installing the drive.
