ValueCablesMuti method/platform & drive assistanceEfficiencyPower switch! :) Just nit choosing, but the LED is a bit vibrant. If you are prepared to turn a handful of screws, and mount your personal HD you would be really hard pressed to locate a greater external enclosure for the value. I paired this with a WDC Scorpio Blue 500GB from NE, and functionality is excellent. USB two. is acceptable speed sensible, but Firewire supplies a noticeable efficiency increase in I/O & seek wait.

Good case. Effectively built. Drive is incredibly secure. Only a little taller than my other 2.five" external drive cases. Came with a USB-to-power supply cable. Power switch is nice. Works with my 320GB drive. I bought this thinking that Firewire was more quickly than USB. It's not. Firewire is 10MB/s slower than USB. I am transferring large video files to the drive and I can sustain 25. MB/s transfer rate with USB, but can only get 15 MB/s utilizing Firewire. No case for the enclosure. Comes with a large six-pin to six-pin Firewire cable. I necessary a six-pin to 4-pin cable.

light, small, uncomplicated to set up, bus powered, enclosure tends to make heat dissipate rapidly. red light issue:I have 3 of these. 2 have worked flawlessly, even so, the most current one particular gave a red light when I put a 200gb challenging drive in it. My other ones have 80-one hundred gb hd's. I contacted tech support and they don't but have an answer, it may possibly be the firmware. the lights (blue or red) are meant to show if the HD is running fine or not. they will need to repair the firmware so that there is consistency. at times it's a blue light all the time, from time to time it's a red light all the time. this could be due to a recent manufacturing batch. but FYI.

I have 4 of their nearly identical PATA enclosures and have recently added two of these SATA enclosures. All of them are constructed like tanks and function great. None I guess it's common for either two 1ǘ" enclosures or the drives I'm using, but it would be nice if you could operate 1 employing just a single USB cable and not will need a second a single for more energy. They appear to work fine on just a single Firewire cable.

Pretty excellent high quality and runs fantastic bus powered on Firewire. Adapts to any 5400 or 7200RPM 2.five-in SATA challenging drive on the market. Looks and feels like it was fabricated in China. Good bang for the buck, great for Firewire on the go.

The major portion of the enclosure is solid aluminum and has a good really feel. The front/back pieces are nonetheless plastic and a little weak feeling. Some persons have complained about how snug the drive fits in this enclosure, I really believe that's an benefit. Additional good touch was that the mounting screws for the harddrive are isolated with rubber spacers. * I have two of these enclosures. On 1 the firewire appears rock solid, on the other the firewire is flaky and leads to corruption. The USB has worked completely on each.* The drive light is blindingly bright ... why would they style it like this? If you're getting random challenges (drive flakes out during lengthy transfer), initial attempt plugging in the further usb power cord, a lot of troubles look to be the usb or firewire bus not supplying fairly adequate energy, so the drive mounts but you get random glitches throughout operation.

Quite nicely produced and strong enclosure. Functions just fine off of the firewire 400 port on my macbook powering a WD 320GB Scorpio 7200rpm, no will need for extra power using the usb to A/C cable. Good to have rubber dampers on internal mounting board and rubber feet on outdoors of enclosure. Quite great heat dissapation as the whole case acts as a heatsink. Plastic end caps - hope they last. The LED is unbelievably vibrant - actually, other reviewers are not exaggerating about this. Easily remedied with a felt tip marker even though. Other folks have complained about the tight match. Yes it is really tight but this is all round a plus. A thing I discovered valuable was to make positive that while sliding the drive into the enclosure that you do not apply stress to the top and bottom of the enclosure. Hold it quite firmly, almost squeezing by the sides with 1 hand and use the other to slowly slide the drive in. Take your time and you ought to not have any challenges.

Really higher excellent for cost Plastic ends, tiny case screws Wife and I have 4 of these, two each and every SATA and PATA (ATA-6). I have owned dozens of HD enclosures more than the years and I price these right at the prime. There are a couple of other folks of equal or slightly superior excellent, but they cost virtually three instances as substantially - no contest. Note that the specs clearly state "up to 9.5mm". If your drive is thicker, uncover a different model.

Got two of these immediately after possessing a single for my IDE drive that has worked perfectly for over a year without flaw. I installed a couple Western Digital 320GB's (WD3200BEVT) and had no difficulties. Following reading other critiques, I was concerned about the tight match but knowledgeable no such issues. Possibly another 1ǚ turn on every of the screws securing the drive to the board before sliding into the enclosure is all that is necessary. Warranty labels nevertheless in tact and they're whisper quiet. Couldn't be happier! The laser light show. Why is it so bright? I punched a pin hole in some electrical tape and even that can be as well vibrant. But with it turned away it isn't noticeable.

When I ordered this enclosure I was not to certain about it. But after pulling it out of the package and placing in my Seagate 500GB hard in it; it is a good enclosure. Will definetly be obtaining yet another in the future. If I was you, I wouldn't hesitate to obtain it. Very strong built out of aluminum. Extremely snug connections. Hard Drive fits incredibly snug in enclosure too, but I consider that is so it has better make contact with with drive in order to hold the drive cool. Extremely easy to set up really hard drive into this unit compared to others that I have employed in the previous. This enclosure only utilizes a single cable to energy the drive and to use the drive; so No extra power cable to carry or plug it. But it does include a USB power cord; and also contains both a firewire cable and usb cable. So no further cables to buy. No Comment. Functions Wonderful With A MacBook! Firewire and USB each work great! I utilized the USB on a windows computer system and utilized the firewire and usb on the mac computer system. No troubles at all! If your looking for a fantastic tiny enclosure, then appear no additional. This is a Wonderful acquire! You won't be disappointed! NewEgg shipped for Totally free and I got it in 2 Days!

Works nicely. Can run only off of USB power with the right laptop drive. The on/off switch is a nice feature lacking in most units.Has worked fine for me from Firewire and USB.The back panel is metal, and all the connections and on/off switch feel incredibly strong. The SATA drive connections are genuinely solid and should hold up to repeated drive swaps. The case is metal and seems to shed heat from the drive well. There are you two additional of the smaller screws. They are little adequate that you might in fact shed 1. A little further effort that I actually appreciated.Receiving every little thing installed is genuinely effortless. Tolerances are a bit tight. When I installed a Seagate Momenuts 4200.2, the inside of the prime cover rubbed against the drive. No biggie, direct speak to may spread heat even much better, but this was only a short-term test. When I attempted to install the new Hitachi 500GB 2.5" laptop drive that this was intended for, I was disappointed. It is around 30 % thicker and will NOT fit. The case just doesn't have sufficient room to accomodate this drive.I'm not nocking the case. Just be conscious that there are thicker laptop drives out there.I also tried a Fugitsu 120 GB The 120GB Fugitsu 2.5" that is in my wife's Toshiba laptop is thinner than the Seagate, and fits even greater in this enclosure. So, get facts on the precise dimentions of your drive or, like me you might be disapointed. The fact that it is a 2.5" laptop drive is clearly not enough.Hmmm, guess my wife's laptop just upgraded from 120GB to 500GB.

Has two Fire Wire 400 1393A connectors, USB 2. connector, extra power connector and on/off switch. I have tested with a Toshiba 60G drive and a WD blue label 320G SATA drive and both worked nicely connected by means of FW or USB two. connections. When applied with a MacBook, no further energy was necessary. I did need to have to use the integrated additional power USB connector when plugged in through the front panel of a Dell SC420 server. The match of the cover is tight, but compared to inexpensive enclosures, the fit and finish is much better. The incorporated CD has a a lot more detailed, "manual," in PDF form, than the paper instruction sheet. The on/off switch is a truly nice feature. From a functional standpoint, no cons; the enclosure works precisely as it should. Just 1 issue: that blue power LED is ridiculously vibrant. That can be cured with a bit of tape or a dab of ink from a Sharpie pen. Just in case you weren't paying consideration... be confident the drive you want to install in this enclosure is SATA. Parallel ATA drives are not compatible (not surprising).

It works great. I purchased it to place my old HP laptops challenging drive into right after the laptop died on me. None. It comes with a USB energy adaptor so it will take two USB or a USB/firewire. This is only an challenge with laptops that only have 2 USB ports or no firewire port. You can possibly get or use a various energy cable but I'll stick with what it came with.

I have applied a lot of enclosures and this by far is my favorite. I got it to hold my old challenging drive from my MacBook Pro because this device has Firewire and USB 2.. It is built incredibly well, and does a great job and cooling the drive. I also like the reality that it can be stacked and that you can chain firewire devices with it. None. Just make confident you verify the dimensions of the drive you put in it. I put a WD Scorpio Black inside and it fit, but was snug. This is by far an exceptional enclosure and if I want one more in the future I will get a single of these.

This unit makes use of a SATA internal connector. It also enables you to connect using super Quick "FireWire" 1394, as well as excellent 'ole USB 1.1 and two. if your laptop makes use of the four-wire Firewire external port, then you'll want to run the included dummy USB wire to feed the enclosure power. For a destop Pc you'll be working with a 6-wire Fire wire cable, which supplies power. No complaints genuinely. This is a excellent unit. I like the alumnimum enclosure - its real rugged. I actually don't mind the USB energy problem, due to the fact FireWire is so much more quickly than USB.
