Yes, this is a short throw projector and yes it will fit in a backpack, however, it wasn't bright enough for my needs. I need a backup projector for DJing (I take pictures of the gusests at parties and show them on a big screen behind and above me). If they can increase the brightness, this will be a winner. I would rate this as a good specialty projector for up close and in a dark space. I guess I'll be returning this and I'll stick to known big and bright projectors.

I have purchased the projector for classroom presentations after struggling for a couple of classes with a projector that was supplied for a class by a NYC College of Technology where I am an adjunct assistant professor. Being a professional engineering consultant I can afford to support my hobby of teaching by this gift to myself and my students. The projector provides picture on a screen from 4 ft distance that is bright and large enough to be visible from 20' distance. Class is light from daylight, windows cannot be darkened. I hook it to my notebook, plug-in and it shows pictures. What a relief to be independent from a school supplied oldie. Students got a valuable lesson in advantages of private enterprise vs. quasi-governmental entity. On one side was quick decision - go and buy what is needed for a job to be done. On the other - old, inefficient and non-workable equipment with budget cuts and restraints. God bless America!

Received quickly but was DOA, contacted Viewsonic support and they were most helpful and cooperative. Shipping it back to them and they are to repair or replace the unit which I hope goes as smooth as everything else has thus far. 1 on performance only because it was DOA so I cannot rate.

Bought this unit a month ago and have used it several times. Great picture on a short throw. Very portable and it can fit in my carry on briefcase with my laptop. Picture brightness sometimes needs a little help by having to dim lights in some bright offices but 90% of the time works well. I would highly recommend if you travel frequently.

Awesome Picture. Great throw from a short distance. Not the best if you are trying to fill a huge room, but for most business presentations, this projector rocks. Nice bright picture, awesome size. The power plug could be a little smaller side, but this unit overall is great.
