Properly constructed. Rapidly. The fan--once more. It Truly doesn't do a lot. Drives are hot. The outside of the enclosure stays cool. Nevertheless, that is a false sense of security apparently.I had to take away the 1.5TB Seagate yesterday to use for a hot swap into my NAS. With the tim it took to unhook and disassemble the box, the drive had cooled some. Nonetheless, it was nonetheless hot. Scary.Yes, the enclosure stays cool. But, as speculated in my earlier evaluation, this fan is NOT helping the drive(s) substantially. The ideal fix would be a fan adapter attached to the mount in the back and run an 80mm blowing out. Newegg does not carry such a point so I am on a hunt.I believe an 80mm side mount fan would hav been the superior design.

I picked one up before deploying to Afghanistan so that I could maintain a back up and consolidate my other difficult drives into a single. i utilized two 1 TB drives for it, and have yet to have a dilemma 4 months later. It has been via traveling in military bags and the heat and hasn't had a hick up. Right after being right here for a bit I ordered 9 far more for my shop and only one of them was DOA. We were able to just repair a solder join on the board and got it up and running once again in significantly less than 30 min. All 9 of the ones I picked up out right here have two 1.5 TB drives in it and they all have been operating smooth for about a month now.Set up is fast and painless, 4 screws on the back and 4 screws per drive. none for the value you can't go incorrect

-Quite uncomplicated installation-Fairly low power consumption-Unobtrusive lighting-Comes with a tiny mount to let it be lifted off of the table/ground/etc, extremely smooth sliding back and forth-Did I mention very uncomplicated installation? So awesome. It won't take my exams for me.No but seriously, the only smaller problem (that didn't even subtract an egg) is the noise. It is not unexpected for a 2-drive bay, but it is unavoidable: the enclosure does make noise. It's incredibly low (my laptop's rear 120mm fan is a bit louder), but it's there.-Power plug is a tiny bit major? Not positive how massive most drive bay energy plugs are. The metal feels like brushed aluminum, and it appears so qualified. The ower light is green, and the "data access" light (the one particular that flickers as the drive is utilised) is blue. Once again, very unobtrusive, not vibrant adequate to make me notice out of the corner of my eye.

This enclosure rocks! I got it a quick when back along with two Samsung two TB drives (SAMSUNG Spinpoint F4 HD204UI 2TB 5400 RPM 32MB Cache SATA three.0Gb/s 3.five" Internal Hard Drive) so I could add some significantly require elbow room for back ups and storage. It was simple to setup and file transfers more than usb2. are easily quickly sufficient for storage makes use of. As soon as I formatted the drives for Mac, I was up and operating. I don't know about more rapidly rpm really hard drives in this enclosure but the 5400's remain nice and cool. So far anything is running completely here. It was and is exactly what was promised.. performs excellent. Oh yeah.. Didn't price much either! It wasn't completely free and it didn't come with six magical flying cats to pull me around the city in my golden chariot. Not actually Rosewill's fault even though,A) those children gotta get paid as well and B) I blame PETA for the new "flying cat" labor laws.So... Cons:.. None at all. Kudos to New Egg on fast delivery.. my enclosure and drives got to me 36 hrs following I ordered them., Thinking about that the shipping was absolutely free, that's absolutely nothing short of a miracle.

It's got a fantastic stand/platform. Tucks out of the way nicely. Large mode is a cool feature, just toggle the internal switch, and it sees two drives as on bigger drive. 1) Doesn't Power Off with Personal computer shutdown.two)The switch that turns the fan off and on, seriously turns the whole unit off and on.three)The blue button on front, the blue led, is not a energy off or standy button, it just blinks, that's all.4)Had to play uncover the invisible drive, unsettling as data is currently archived. I assume safely removing drive as an alternative of trusting plug and play would be wise. I had shut down the unit soon after the computer system shutdown. Upon start out upwith laptop the drive remain elusive. Plugged/unplugged drive 3 instances - finally recognized, running a healthy windows 7 program here.five) The owner's manual is brief without any discussion of care, upkeep, do's and don'ts. I suppose if the circuit board fails on this factor, the information on drives would be okay. The firmware update is an odd piece of programming, desires rewriting. It's an fascinating experiment: 'big' setting, but.......(backup this back up, I have, but that's typical for me). I anticipate the circuit board to fail. I expect the 'big' harddrive/usb dual enclosure to disappear once again -feels like windows 98 once more - ha). I would not get this again, ratings threw me off, but I will hold it - alive or dead.

Great. Sturdy construction, Dual-bay, finest enclosure I have had however. None. I filled this with 2, 2TB Samsung Spinpoint drives and have not had a single problem in the 4-months I have owned it. I have an additional Rosewill external and it's just as very good. Rosewill is the way to go for externals.

It does what it says. I put in a couple of drives and it worked fine. I am utilizing it below both Win7 and Ubuntu ten.10 with no challenges whatsoever. It was plug and play. I don't retain it on regularly, so I can't comment on how effectively it keeps the drives cool. None so far.

I have had a single in service now for a couple of months and have been pleased with it sufficient to get a second one particular. For the cost you can't beat it, even although it is only a usb connection the file transfers are fairly speedy and a lot swift sufficient to stream movies to my HTPC. Adding storage space for movies, pictures, and music couldn't be simpler, with my 1st 1 sporting 1.7TB, I am setting up the second with a couple of 1.5TB drives. The cooling fans are keeping things cool and I have had no concerns with them being too loud. None Once more as a warning, be confident you know the drive you are installing is made for this sort of use (ie. dvr or surveillance) and you can't go incorrect. The "green" drives will fail miserably.

A fantastic tough drive enclosure for the cost. I working with mine for a back up in JBod mode. Have not tried the Large option but it just a matter of flipping a switch inside the unit. Effectively constructed and quite quiet, and not lot of massive bright lights. The tiny bitty screws in the back to take off the case and it would of nice if the power switch was in the front other then that I am pleased.

I put bigger drives in my destop computer system and this enclosure makes very good use of the older smaller drives. Soon after 5 months of use, about half the time I turn it on, the drives are not recognized in Windows 7. The USB port in the enclosure activates but no drives appear in Windows Explorer. I have to turn the enclosure off and back on and attempt again. The unit does get hot so I only run it extended sufficient to perform backups.

I needed a quick and simple way to mount 2 SATA II drives to back-up a RAID-5 array that required to be rebuilt (with far more drives). I utilized two-500 GB drives in RAID- by way of this enclosure, copied the data more than, and accomplished. Now I switched it over to RAID-1 and have redundant storage. Pretty sweet way to use old HDD's. None! Wonderful deal and a good setup. The case operates excellent and the fans do the ticket. It's quiet and even operating two drives for 24 hours straight didn't come across any heat troubles.

I have this 4TB drive hooked up to my Mac mini and use it for video editing. The response I get managing massive GB files is remarkable for a USB two device. None (Well, a life lesson. You get what you pay for) It has a fan but nevertheless overheats. If you turn it off and let it cool down the drives will show up for ten to 20 minutes. I bought it simply because it was inexpensive. Newegg will not let me place zero eggs. Running two Seagate 1T drives that work flawlessly in other enclosures. And yes, I have tried distinct cables and ports. I have installed the firmware upgrade from Rosewill's internet site. I have enlarged the holes on the case. It nonetheless fails everytime it runs for a couple of minutes.(I have even ran it with the case off)DON'T WASTE YOUR Dollars Manufacturer Response:Dear Valued Consumer,Thank you very substantially for buy the R2-JBOD. Housing probably could have been created with the fanas a best exhaustI have mine tuned upside down for better coolingand I have my clients do the exact same. Not confidentif it assists, but we all feel a tiny superior. This is a USB Device, not a three. but 2., so raid with this item is a little silly to me. I have put more than a dozen of these into use and alloperate precisely the similar. If you will need speed and much more capabilities then get a decent NAS, this is just aUSB enclosure. I gave it five eggs since it does preciselywhat it mentioned it does and keeps carrying out it.

Nice aluminum. DOA out of the box. Identified numerous solders on the SATA connectors that are all fused collectively. The lights on the unit won't even come on. The fan is the only factor that worked.Terrible, terrible good quality manage for this unit to say it passed a QA check. Now I'm stuck funding an RMA and all the related delays. My largest fear is acquiring stuck with a different bad unit from the identical batch. Sad when good quality control dooms a item and wastes time and shipping for absolutely everyone. I genuinely feel at times these excellent bargains are just a waste of time. Seems like items that have higher failure prices get place into offers to purge the inventory of the poor units.

This is a good small box. Effectively made, sturdy, fits collectively snugly. The drives match into the rails easily but tightly, and connect properly with the SATA energy and information contacts. Right after loading two 1 TB drives and using it for a couple of days, I ordered a second 1 of these units for future use. I appreciate getting able to use the two drives independently. The USB external connection is slower than eSATA, of course, but I use these drives for backup of digital pictures, so the slower access speed isn't an concern. I'm employing two WD "green" drives, which don't get as hot as the other people, and the case barely feels warm on the outside after numerous hours of use. The fan is quite quiet, and has its personal switch. Only downside I can consider of is the lack of an eSATA connection, but computer suppliers aren't rushing to add eSATA ports the way they after added USB ports. All about, this is a wonderful enclosure

-Solid construction-Looks nice-Really quiet-Runs truly cool -JBOD-Big doesn't perform with an array bigger than 2TB-Create speeds are seriously, truly bad I bought this enclosure with high hopes. It was cheap, it looked good, and I figured if I tossed two 2TB drives in, I'd have a low cost, 4TB external drive for backups. I was wrong. I spent a lengthy time trying to figure out if the enclosure wasn't operating, if the drives had been bad, or if it was just poor Linux assistance. In the end, I determined that the controller has problems dealing with drives larger than 2TB. I saw a firmware patch on Rosewill's site that claimed to address the problem, but immediately after downloading their utility, it claimed my firmware was considerably, a lot newer than that 1, so I didn't bother installing. I then decided to give up on Major, and attempt JBOD, which worked fine, except the write speeds were AWFUL (like eight-10mb/s, usually a lot more like 8, sometimes even significantly less). I'm assuming this is an problem with the jmicron controller, but I have no clue. I ended up returning it (I rarely return something), and tossed the drives in some old hardware and constructed a NAS.

Straightforward to use practically maintenance free of charge, truly trusted operating 2TB storage. Strong construction and compact, I was so impressed I buy one more one a year later. Had my 1st operating for more than two years on two differant power sources 110v for 11 months and 14 moths 220v immediately after moving to Europe, hands down trusted overall performance. 1. Small cooling fan pulls in dust, can get noisy at instances but optional on/off switch in rear. Will run just fine with the fan off and will not get hot.2. esternal power supply died, replace with no problems (small value to spend) Firmware is upgradable to support bigger drives go to http://www.rosewill.com/support/Download.aspxidsɣ_17_109_1095Would be nice if the enclosure shuts down when the personal computer shuts down, however its lacking that feature. Bottom line I would buy this device, it's nice not to worry about information loss from an enclosure failure.
