- Value- Looks- Dual redundancy- Wake-On-Lan - Buggy software programTo Wit: If it loses energy through shutdown, a file gets left in place and it can\'t be booted up once more without having NetGear Level-3 support logging in and deleting the file. Only way to get Level three is to plead on the forum and hope a single of them requires pity. Telephone help is utterly hopeless. Also, WOL just plain does not perform... period.- Poor user support This is a classy-looking device and the help externals are desirable: documentation, forum, and so-forth.But beneath the surface, it's not so great.I had a Level-three guy clarify to me how support is supposed to operate (progressing from level-1 to 2, to 3...). It sounded completely sensible. Issue is, NetGear's telephone help does not even come close to operating the way he described. Following two misadventures, I can rant for pages about this, but that's the bottom line.

6 Disk capacity, straightforward setup. Monitoring is fantastic. Both iSCSI and Shares work excellent. Speed is extremely great but expected greater. Works wonderful as a network drive/data backup -and I can run videos properly from it. Even hooked up a UPS that is monitored. I have dumped nearly 2TB of information on the NAS. All in all good buy. Shares and rights are not intuitive could be less complicated. Lacks comprehensive support. Lacks DST on time server. Would like to be able to TEEM the NICS for fault tolerance or more rapidly throughput. I researched long/hard on this 1 and the harddrives. I loaded it with 2TB Hitachi HDS722020ALA330 -6 of them -drives. Ran X RAID and got 9. Got 9.2TB out of the 12TB. I ran a VM with data on the NAS -overall performance was a bit slow so had to move it back. Therefore far no HD failures.

Rapidly, pretty quiet, and complete of functions. I utilized to have a Drobo S, and I like this Substantially much more. This gives me fantastic manage more than such items as disk scrubbing, and consistency checks, as effectively as offering a lot of a lot more capabilities than Drobo does (e.g. getting able to automate storing my TiVo programs on the NAS, or possessing a UPS attached that can control shutdown when power fails). The community support by way of the forums is fantastic. Power light is about 10 occasions brighter than it requirements to be. Activity light is about 10 instances dimmer than it wants to be. Hardware Compatibility List (HCL) is rather restrictive. It has factors such as difficult-drives that are authorized for use in the ReadyNAS, but it's a smaller list. Fortunately, the community forums show exactly where lots of other items perform properly. I was able to use WD20EARS drives, even though they're not listed in the HCL, as well as upgrading the internal RAM from 1GB to 2GB. It doesn't void your warranty to use unapproved hardware, but assistance will most likely not do as well substantially if unapproved hardware doesn't perform as you hoped. I'm **very** pleased with this buy. It's fundamentally a Linux box with RAID, but the front-finish software program shields you from having to know how to use Linux. Software program is offered that can let you get to a BASH prompt or load in customized packages. I began with 4 2TB drives then later added a different 2TB drive and it automatically enhanced the disk space devoid of me getting to do anything at all more (which took several hours). I believe that the green activity light may well be misaligned with the mask that it's supposed to shine via - I can't see it unless I'm up close and at the right angle. But the power light is a blazing blue supernova in a dark room. It can do some of the Drobo-like expansion points, such as swapping out drives for larger drives, but Drobo is nevertheless king as far as taking a set of distinct sized drives and generating them all function with each other. I choose the function set and speed of the ReadyNAS over the simplicity of Drobo.

- Excellent hardware, uncomplicated to slot in and remove drives.- Runs really quiet and cool.- Excellent performance (Ave 50 MBps write, 80 MBps read).- Dependable so far.- Dynamic partition resizing with X-RAID2. Has worked twice with no matters so far. - The software program interface doesn't expose the power of this machine, compared to the interface on a Synology NAS.- DLNA server does not transcode, which decreased the usefulness quite a bit. Have no problems with the NAS, just wish the computer software was superior than it is. For the price, it's good value.

It has a good gui. Works fairly great with PS3. Good quality. Firmware. There is no stats on the gui to tell you work load. Tech assistance. And so on... Overall I have loved the networking switches. But this item is not prepared for something. I have had two units. Each are dead. I sent them back for refunds. Immediately after losing all my information. Twice!! Yes I am a glutton for punishment. But I was willing to give it a likelihood. five days to get a call back from tech support. Level three guys are busy attempting to fix all the broken boxes world wide. They have a massive problem with firmware. xraid2 and so on... Stay away from this product.
