Cons: Fans are crazy loud

Pros: Finished my build without any cuts.Trays all function well.
Comment:
Might not have the same quality as a supermicro case, but for the price this cant be beat. Works well for ZFS with IBM m1015 controllers.I purchased the optional 120mm fan wall and used a fan controller to get rear fans noise down.(I put it where you would mount the redundant power supply.) You may not want to do this unless you are using low power hard drives.

Cons: -Little space between fan mount bracket and the HDD backpanel-No rack mounting brackets-Not truly hot swappable. Have to screw/unscrew the drives from the bays

Pros: -24 hot swappable HDD slots-Roomy internal motherboard area-Full EATX expansion slots-Sliding handles
Comment:
Great case, lots of expansion capability. The only thing I don't like is the fact that if you want to quickly replace the hard drive, you have to take out the slot from the bay, unscrew the drive from the slot, screw a new one and slide it back into the bay. So rather semi hot swappable. Secondly, the location of the internal 3/4 fan bracket is a little too close to the backplane of the HDD circuitry. In case you have to replace one of the fans, its really hard to unscrew them and you have to end up unscrewing the entire bracket, move it farther from the backplane and then unscrew.

Cons: -None really beside the fact that's it's heavy... but hey how often do you move a server case...

Pros: -Strong build-Inexpensive
Comment:
Overall I feel happy about this purchase. It's a nice server case with 24 slots for hdds for such a low price.

We bought three of these to use as backup servers for enormous storage. Coupled with some Supermicro motherboards and factors worked out effectively, way more affordable than the 񘊌-񘐜 server circumstances from other vendors. None. Then once more we use these in a server room where fan noise isn't an concern. I bought one for home and purchase a couple Zalman fan controllers to slow down the two rear delta fans, following I did that it was best for home use. Not sure how men and women are providing it only 2 or three eggs since it didn't come with SATA/SAS CABLES. I commonly study the solution description so In addition to, how would the manufacturer know which kind of cables people will need, when there are three various kinds of cables that could function with the backplane in the RPC-4224: miniSAS to miniSAS, miniSAS to SATA breakout, and SATA to miniSAS reverse breakout.

Cons: Loud without taming the included fans

Pros: Great hard drive density in 4u

Been wanting to upgrade a storage server to this case for a while, finally did, and no regrets. Machine is working perfectly, and after replacing fans and using a 120mm fan wall, its nice and quiet. No issues with trays, or drives lining up to the backplanes.

Cons: Loud, but can easily be remedied by using the 120mm fan bracket part and using silent 80 and 120mm fans.

Pros: Super low price pointExcellent quality24 drive bays!
Comment:
Cheaper than other alternatives and will yield better performance if paired with the proper equipment. I use the unit with ARECA 1882IX-24. 12 drives RAID6 yields stable 1.72GB/s read and 997MB/s write. Raid 60 constant 2.7GB/s read 1.28GB/s write, tested with WD Red 3TB. Unit is well made and easy to work with. Also if you are using it in a home environment, it is a good idea to spend 10$ on "Norco 120mm Fan Bracket". Bottom line, if you think of going Supermicro to save money or get better performance, you are probably making a mistake.

After reading the critiques and in particular N.G.'s critique, I agree with them. Immediately after reading the specs very carefully, they clearly stated what connections are supported. This is an outstanding case and I like it! Just replace the rear fans with quiet ones. None. Making use of two TB drives. TONS of storage for blu-ray motion pictures!

Appears seriously rugged! The raid connector is a mini-sas connector and they don't contain the cables to make the fan out to connect to Areca cards. UNBELIEVABLE that they don't include the cables!!! Add another 财 for the fan out cables! If I would have recognized this, I wouldn't have purchased this case!

24 difficult drives in a 4U server chasis is the major pro in combination with the cost point you can\'t beat this. This is the excellent home answer for storage demands. No documentation. Although what do you actually want? It is a piece of metal you place stuff in. Not much additional to it then that despite the fact that it came with a box of metal plates that I had no thought what were for. My buddy who has a 4020 norco mentioned his box is sitting someplace with all the parts. Anyone know what these metal plates are for? Came with hard drive screws for the caddies which is good! They are inexpensive but it was a added bonus for this case. Be aware this does not come with rails. I was not upset but thought it would come with rails. Believed it was worth noting you will require to get rails too.

24 hotswap bays, lots of room, way less high priced that the subsequent closest competitor. Its an awsome case for WHS installations. Its not designed for residential use. Its quite loud and pushes alot of air. It also weighs a ton! Devote 11 bucks on a 3x120mm fan bracket and add 3x Scythe SFF21F fans. Replace the two rear 80mm fans with Silenx IXP-54-14 fans and you finish up with a pretty quiet server for the household. Even with the extra 100 bucks (or less) in mods, you're nonetheless hundreds less than anything that comes close. If you run a house server, this is the great chassis.Norco need to think about selling the modded version for residential use, as house servers are becoming far more and far more well-liked.The replacement is available straight from norco and all the fans are offered right here at newegg.

Excellent solution for a residence media server. I assume it's a bargain for how many drives it can hold. Whilst this is a lot larger than most desktop cases, I don't believe it's too poor taking into consideration just how numerous disks it can hold. Construction is extremely solid and it has a clean, professional appear. The interior is quite roomy, with the exception of the space between the fan wall and the backplanes. The design of the front has altered somewhat from the photographs on newegg and even on their own web site. The front panel exactly where the power lights and the power/reset buttons no longer has a front USB port. I believe it looks superior personally, as both front handles are now the same length, and the buttons aren't on that block sticking out from the front panel. The missing USB port isn't a dilemma for me, but preserve this in mind in case you needed it.No manuals, but not genuinely required. As other individuals have mentioned, the stock fans are LOUD. The rear ones particularly, they sounded like a jet taking off. I replaced all of them with 6 ENERMAX UC-8EB 80mm Case Fan (http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16811999199). Incredibly quiet afterwards. I wish there was some sort of tool-much less snap in system of attaching the disk to the trays. It would make hot swapping a bit faster, as opposed to having to screw them in. Nevertheless I can't complain, it's more quickly than shutting down the machine and opening the whole thing up.Since I'm only making use of this for storage, I can get away with less airflow by using the quiet aftermarket fans. The sort of airflow from the louder stock fans may be required if you have all 24 bays filled and are accessing the drives continually.I'll have to order one particular of these (http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16816133040&cm_re=norco-_-16-133-040-_-Product) for the backplanes. My corsair psu cables worked, but they're significantly thicker and it's tricky obtaining in their with the restricted space.

Cons: The rear exhaust fans are extremely loud. They should have included the 120mm fan wall by now. At least the stock 80mm fans on the fan wall are not too noisy.

Pros: The amount that you get for the price is the most attractive feature. From the research I've done, you'd be hard pressed to find another company offering an equivalent product for less than half the price.
Comment:
The unRAID community has really taken to this case, and it's not hard to see why. It's very affordable, and the metal work seems decent, and c'mon, it's 24 bays. The only real downside is the cooling. If you don't have a soundproof dedicated server room, the rear fans are simply unacceptably loud. Fortunately, the fan wall in the middle of the case seems to be doing the job at keeping my drives at around 35C, and those 80mm fans aren't too bad when the lid of the case is on.One thing to note is that Norco's quality control concerning the SAS backplanes has been reported to be severely lacking. I opted for the ExpressRMA, and though I didn't need to use it, I don't regret shelling out for it. I'm not sure if this new revision is just better, or if I got lucky.

Price - The cheapest 24 disk case I could findSturdy construction - Really sleek design with solid supplies. Holes in the 80mm fan wall bracket a nicely rounded to avoid wire abrasion.Packaging - The case is double boxed in thick cardboard. The boxes are now utilized as a make shift stand for the case till I can get a rack.Roomy - Using a common ATX board with this case and there is tons of room to spareSupplied Screws - Good to see all the required screws were supplied in labelled bags. Noise - The 80mm fans are quite loud. In particular the two exhaust fans. If this case is going anywhere outside of a dedicated server room then get the 120mm fan wall bracket (sold separately).120mm Fan Wall Bracket Sold Separately - This is a massive deal for me. I think most enthusiast out there who are seeking for this form of hardware would agree. This will add to the overall price of the case and you will be left with four 80mm fan as paper weight. The power strip which connects on the 80mm fan bracket will not fit on the 120mm version so you cannot tuck the wires neatly out of the way. The holes on the 120mm bracket are not rounded and are a bit sharp. NORCO really should develop a yet another line of these cases with the 120mm fans included to keep away from these hassles. No Printed Manual - A two page printout of what's included in the package and a description of the backplane connector would be beneficial. If you have not put one of these instances together, do your investigation prior to starting. My case was received with one of the rear exhaust fan DOA. It seem the rear super high RMP fans' energy wires had been splice to a 12V connection. The wire of the DOA fan broke at the splice. It would have been far better idea to supply a 12V to 3 pin connector for the exhaust fans. I emailed NORCO support and had a replacement sent out in three days. I was not needed to return the broken fan so no shipping cost was incurred. The replacement fan had a correct 12V connector and was equivalent in size and db level to the 80mm fans on the original backplane. This gave me the idea to swap out the second super high RMP exhaust fan with 1 of the quieter 80mm fan from the original backplane.I genuinely like this product and am enjoying of minute of it. It could very easily get a 5 egg evaluation if NORCO makes a few minor modification. NORCO support was also extremely responsive with e-mail responses within 24hrs.
