This router is very good. I added it to my network since my modem/router from Rogers is just not up to the task for good high speed wireless to 3+ computers. This thing provides excellent speeds all throughout my house, and makes my laptop and WDTV Live far more useful...wifi before maxed at 100Mbps connection, but in practice gave a max of 5MB/s transfers. I get far beyond that now.The configuration and setup menu is very nicely laid out, and easy to use. Also has many extras for advanced users.I definitely recommend this router if you're looking for some quality wireless in your house.

Cons: Setting admin access to HTTPS in the administration page can render the admin interface inaccessible, requiring a hard reset of the router; that may have been fixed with a firmware upgrade.

Pros: High speed set-up, easy config, works out of the box
Comment:
I bought this router to repace a failing DLINK DIR-655; this router is faster, and the internal antenna seems to work better than the three external antennae of the DLINK. I get a full wireless signal throughout my house with the ASUS in the exact same position as the DLINK was. The DLINK, even when fully-operational, only gave me a 65% connection at best. The guest wireless option is a nice touch, as are separate SSID's for the 2.4 and 5GHz networks. Day 1 and I'm already happier.

Have been using this for 3 months now and no hiccups in performance and usage. I get very fast speed on my network and setup is extremely easy. There is a great amount of customization in the settings which is superb and the UI in the router itself is really helpful in setting it up the first time. For a hundred bucks, this thing should last you a long time and it looks just great in my living room!

I replaced a baked Linksys / Cisco WRT310N with the RT-N65U. I purchased and installed an Asus router for a colleague several years ago (WL500GP) and I was impressed with its features and its robustness. My colleague insisted on keeping it “out of sight” in a closed cabinet where it (too) baked for hours on end without skipping a beat. I’m pleased to report that our friends in Taiwan have not been slumming. The N65U is a delight. Once you fire up the router (it takes a few moments to boot), your browser automatically brings up a quick set-up page. Don’t bother trying to circumvent it. The initial set-up checks your internet connection and requests basic information in order to secure your network. The full control interface appears immediately thereafter so that you can tweak. The GUI is elegant and intuitive. In my home, the router serves a desktop, a laptop, an internet radio, a Blu-Ray player, a surveillance camera and a Kindle. I’m not a gamer and the devices I use are not inherently demanding, but they snapped to attention once the Asus was connected. Not so with the older router. (I look forward to seeing how 5 GHZ will work out). Please note that the N65U is among the Asus router products that provide you with access to Asus’ “AiCloud” service. There is a Sync function, a Cloud Disk function and a Smart Access function. There are apps available for Android and Apple appliances. I own neither. I am using the Smart Access function. It allows me to log in to an Asus server (https://www.asusnetwork.net/) and have access to (Windows) shared folders. It would appear that once you activate the function within the router interface it contacts Asus and authenticates your unit. The login name (i.e. “admin”) and the password are the same that you have set for access to the router locally (192.168.1.1). Unfortunately, the AiCloud functions are not clearly explained. It’s a new service and you’ll have to do some research on your own. Please note that your N65U may require a firmware update  in order to activate the AiCloud functions. I have been experimenting with the Smart Access function and it appears to work very well (the English language notwithstanding – see below). Please note that your browser may report that the site’s (https://www.asusnetwork.net) security certificate is “not trusted”. An oversight on Asus’ part I presume. You may proceed anyway. This function gives you remote access to directories and files that you have “shared” in Windows. The interface provides text, photo and video viewing functions. Still playing with it, but it seems to work nicely. Have not used the other two functions (they are linked to USB-attached storage devices). If you’re a stickler for the (most rudimentary) rules of English grammar, you’ll find yourself wincing a fair bit as you navigate the various interfaces (I have offered my services to Asus to no avail). Nevertheless, they get the job done. Finally, there are the external design considerations. The unit is about the size of a Kindle and it sits on a jaunty stand. Blue LEDs shimmer on the glossy cross-hatched surface. I would have opted for a matt finish (see: monolith – "2001 A Space Odyssey"). Subtle but nice touches: a looping / securing clip on the power cable, an ON / OFF switch, indicator lights on each Ethernet socket.Kudos to the Asus team on this one.
