- inexpensive- makes use of low-cost media- excellent for a design and style environment. - not hot-swappable- had to alter mobo BIOS settings from "auto" to manual; then tweak the manual settings.-I would suggest the IDE to CF adapter that fits on the back of the Computer and screws onto the backplane, like a peripheral card would. If you have your computer open and use this kind of adapter, be cautious of ESD !Make confident you ground oneself and/or use a static wrist strap, to steer clear of damaging this adapter, or any nearby adapter inside your pc.-would be fantastic for a development atmosphere. Otherwise I'd get the backplane style of an IDE to CF adapter. - expected that I changed 1 or two jumpers on the adapter, from their default settings.- Changed my BIOS settings for the hard drive from AUTO to CHS.[though the decision of Huge may possibly also have worked]- I bought a Kingston 2GB 150x CF card and it worked fine.[kingston CF card came with ONTRACK recovery]

If it worked would be best for my purposes. It wont work. It will show in the bios but I could not get Windows Vista, Windows XP, or Linux Puppy 2.16 to show it as a drive in the OS. There is naturally an engineering error with these boards.

Uncomplicated setup (three jumpers & just plug in), nice option for a net-surfer only unit (low power usage, no noise & low heat) Direct IDE socket insertion and CF slot not all that safe (had to make a retention bracket, sticks out at least decrease than my cpu heatsink/fan May want to adjust BIOS for it to operate

Works fine. I use an RiData SLC CF, which is a lot rapid. I am using this as a boot disk for an openfiler NAS. Taller than I anticipated. It ran into the drive cage on my shuttle case. I had to slide the cage backward and add new screw holes for it. The CF card sticks up about 1ǘ inch above the top rated of the card. If the height is probably to be a problem, get the version that attaches with an IDE cable.

has jumper settings, in contrast to some other models ive dealt with. little kind factor. device performs just like it really should. only complaint is the ide connector - plugs down correct into a board. can not use an ide cable for placement where you may possibly want/need it.

Great way to connect a Compact Flash card. I am using a SanDisk Extream III card rated at 133X ྴMB/s. Working with my typical USB card card reader under windows I can get it to run at 122x ླ MB/s). When utilizing the CF to IDE adapter the ideal it will run at is 18x ƒ.7 MB/s) (on two unique systems). There is a big problem and I dont know what is going on.Be carfull this has to plug directly into your MoBo. I wanted the other one that will plug into a cabe. It makes it dificult to use two of them. When making use of it below windows it still shows up as a removable drive. I would have anticipated it to show up as a common drive. These 2 difficulties combined make this device useless for what I was doing.

Boot FreeNAS eight RC4 of this. Operates great. Compact Flash card comes within millimeters of the case cover when all place with each other, wish it was a small shorter. Not genuinely a con even though seeing as it does fit.

Low cost Wouldn't boot with my ASUS M2NBP-VM motherboard. Except for when it type of began to boot, but still crapped out. Attempted an Addonics CF-IDE adapter with that precise identical motherboard and CF unit and it worked fine. I want NewEgg would carry those.

Uncomplicated to use, smaller size Doesn't support DMA modes, but will allow the card to tell the OS it does. Result is very slow boot time whilst the OS (Linux, in this case) tries to figure out why DMA isn't operating ahead of falling back to PIO mode I Really wish I hadn't bought this, it's been far more of a pain than anything else. Disk-on-modules are way better IMO.

Price is really nice. Performs completely as advertised. Shipping wasn't free. CF cards aren't as straightforward to find as they applied to be. Barely located a single locally...probably should have just ordered numerous from newegg when I ordered this. Leds are quite bright as some others have commented. I'm making use of it to boot a vmware esxi server, so I'll never ever even see them unless I'm operating on it.I place a 200x 4G Sandisk Ultra CF card on it, and it ran the study test at close to 30MB/s. Same card barely got 3MB/s on a USB reader I had lying around (from the stone age, I'm sure) I'm pretty sure this setup is making use of some level of UDMA, but I didn't verify. I just required a dependable boot media that had acceptible speed. At about ุ total for the CF card and this, I got what I wanted. If I wanted a bit more rapidly boot drive, some of the 30GB and 40GB ssds are searching actually sweet now...but those are around 3x-5x the price of this setup at the moment.

none Purchased two of these to use on my EPIA-CN motherboard. I could not get either to function with each a Transcend 8gb 120x card and a Kingston 1gb card. I tried both IDE ports, external and internal power, three.three and 5v, in all combinations. Drives never ever showed up in BIOS. I have an oler CF-IDE adaptor (model??) that I purcahsed two years ago and that performs with the 1gb card but not the 8gb 120x I had a EPIA board and these adaptors claim to function excellent with them... Didn't believe I would run into any problems.Waste of my time and money.

Functions as advertised, XP boots on my Kiosk's based on Dell Optiplex GX150 Motherboards. Employed with Ridata 4GB CF cards, no jumpers or settings to adjust, looks just like a 4GB drive. Not as rapid as a Hard Drive but we knew that prior to we bought it. Very first I was amazed by how rapid the machine did run, I expected boot occasions to be quite slow but they are actually faster. Anything requiring seek occasions will be quicker nonetheless moving large files will be noticeably slower. This is an amazingly low cost solution for anyone needing to develop a kiosk exactly where moving parts can lead to failures and lost sales. 1. No moving parts2. No heat.three. Significantly less power

Straightforward to set up. I'm attempting to boot linux from a 2GB CompactFlash card with this adapter but it won't work. From time to time I get "boot disk failure" sometimes it begins booting and then says "can't access hdc device busy". This card boots linux on a 1GB flash card, and decrease. Although even 1GB requires a very extended time. Extremely wierd behavior

I'm employing this in my homebrew NAS box operating NASLite2-HDD.I have a Through-C7 1.5GHz motherboard with this plugged intothe IDE. This autodetects adequately BUT had to set the BIOS on the motherboard (Primary Master IDE UDMA to DISABLED) forit to boot accurately. NO Issues! Just disable the DMA. Hope this aids someone else here! Wonderful device for this application! NONE! FYI: I have employed this with both a Lexar 1GB Platinum-II 80x asproperly as a SanDisk 2GB Ultra-II with no challenges!

Takes up tiny space, utilizes small energy. Turns compact flash card into an apparent tough drive. (Why can't this field be blank?) I used this with an old Gateway P2-350 personal computer to turn it into an NAS. (FreeNAS operating method--woot!)Had to tweak the bios, but other than that was fairly painless.

Inexpensive, works as advertised. I put a Transcend 4GB Model TS4GCF133 in it and it must be able to do up to ultra dma four but for some purpose with this adapter my technique says that it can't uncover an ata66 cable so the most I get is ultra dma 2 so i'm not confident what that is about I attempted three.3v and 5v with the similar effect.

No complaints booting from CF with this adapter. Low power, silent operation. No case bays essential. Slow boot time. About 2 minutes for Ubuntu, a different minute for mythtv. Immediately after everything's loaded in memory it appears to run smoothly. Also, for some cause the mobo no longer lights the HD LED on the case (tested with a typical HDD and performs fine). ASRock K7S41GX, 4GB Transcend CF card, 512MB RAM, Ubuntu 7.04, mythtv .20, MX440 graphics card for full 1080p glory through DVI. Oh yeah.

Easy to set up, excellent height for my case (which is 1 of the smallest on newegg, on of the In Win ones. Doesn't assistance DMA, but reports to linux that it does. Linux at just about every boot has to try DMA2, DMA1, and then lastly disable DMA ahead of it will perform. Also doesn't tend to remain in its slot extremely properly. Wish I'd carried out a little more research, I wouldn't have purchased this

I installed this currently with a Transcend 4Gig, 133x CF card. I was surprised how well it functions. Boot up was faster than I thought it would be. I installed Linux Mint 9 LXDE. No genuine con It does take longer than a HD to execute updates or download new software program. My avg read speed was 21 meg/sec. I noticed that Google Chrome was quicker than Firefox.I did this as an experiment to see if I wanted to convert my netbook to CF. I installed this in my Gigabyte desktop program. The general speed reminds me of an older 5200 rpm difficult drive. This would be a superior setup for my granddaughters computer. I believe I will get the Sata adapter for my netbook.

offered a purpose for my old CF card, works w/ FreeNAS, little none so far Works w/ my Through Epia sp13000 mobo just as it states. 20th pin on my IDE powers it. Just had to set the jumper properly. However, this did not work with a Seagate 5GB ST1 drive FW: three.08. Bios detected it fine, but not any OS I attempted. I don't believe it was the adapters fault. Performs excellent with an old PNY 256MB CF card, even though. This did not fit in my situation (item #N82E16811121092) so i cut a little coin slot for it with my dremel :-)
