4-channel SATA300 ƒ-internal-SATA and 2-eSATA ports).Supposedly PCI-X compatible. Did not detect any of my Western Digital drives when applied in any PCI-X slot on my ASUS PU-DL board. When used in normal PCI slot, it detects the internal really hard drives and operates ok. But the eSATA ports by no means detect my Thermaltake eSATA/USB2 enclosure. Updated BIOS to most recent 6.4.09 and even RMA'ed for a different card but it still has the similar troubles. Ended up going with a *real* hardware RAID SATA300 card for the internal drives and a cheap SiliconImage-3512 SATA150 PCI card for a operating eSATA port.

It functions in standard PCI slot of older motherboard. Transfer speed restricted to SATA 1 Ƒ.5Gb/s). Not confident what needs enable for SATA II operations and transfer speeds. Only standard directions are offered, in tiny print, on a ӯ"x 5" piece of paper and deal mostly with configuring the card's BIOS for RAID. Non-RAID use for external drives not talked about. Windowx XP did not detect this card on reboot to prompt for driver install. SATALink did not work (yellow ! in Device Manager) but SATARaid driver installed and operates properly. What is shown on the web-site is what I order but not what I received. Rather of a SYBA branded item, the SATA II NCQ Host controller card I received is branded "Best Connections. The CD had drivers but not the SATA application. Sadly, the other SYBA PCI to eSATA cards that I ordered to run on a Windows 98SE Computer are also not SYBA branded. At this point, I'm not sure I received what I ordered or a "alternate" equivalent for what I ordered. So, lengthy as it performs, I'm not going to bother with return approach but I'm a bit let down by this seeming failure to obtain specifically what I paid for. Based on the device overall performance at only SATA 1 speed, I'd say this is more than-priced.

It does function at sataII since I purchased this card right after purchasing a 1.5 which did not perform with my 3. difficult drive. As I appear on the box it mentioned nothing about PCI X Persons who feel they know stuff about computers missleading these couple of of us who almost know nothing about comps. Take your laptop to geek squad like i did. they will get that card to perform! Maybe add a evaluation that is correct.

Silicon Image 3124 chipset, economical ---> WILL NOT Work AT 3.3V <----Form factor a poor fit, External sata connectors very close to board edge and might be blocked by case. Could not even fix PCI-x slots without some effort. Therefore, you attach a drive and get a BSOD in a three.3v PCI-x slot or newer PCI standard slots. This card need to perform in PCI slots with PCI 2.2 or prior standards or the, rather uncommon, 5V PCI-x slots. Older PCI normal supports either 5V or 3.3V while newer only supports 3.3V.Contrary to some comments it *is* valid to have a 32 bit PCI-x half size card but that won't aid considerably if the voltage is wrong. Even though the card has Universal PCI keys, which must indicate either 3.3V or 5V support, it will not perform at 3.3V.

. . Just to be clear, this is a 32-bit PCI card NOT PCI-X.Regardless of the previous comment, their is no such issue as a 32-bit PCI-x card.Yes, 32-bit PCI cards are definitely compatible with a PCI-X slot. However that does not effect it's bus width or bandwith. The PCI-X regular is 64-bits which you clearly can't achieve employing a 32-bit card.On a side note- throwing a 32-bit card into a PCI-X slot will slow down the bus speed of your PCI-X slotIt will also slow down all other slots sharing that bus.So in most instances you'll slow down the bus speed of all your PCI-X slots to that of a normal PCI slot.

Performs with Windows Server 2003, as advertised Does not perform with some motherboards. Yet another overview talked about that it doesn't perform with PCI3.3V slots, and I identified this out the hard way with an Asus CUV4-x...computer shuts down repeatedly...aarrgh. When it functions, it operates. Like other reviewers have mentioned, the bracket doesn't match. I had to eliminate the bracket from the card to get it in the slot. That leaves the card poorly secured in the slot.I also get ROM Checksum Errors with the card. I don't know if it's just this card or that's how it is in common. Manufacturer Response:Dear Consumer,Thank you for buying our merchandise. The bracket on this card is a common full height PCI bracket which fits all standard case. Operating Ubuntu ten.ten (amd64) on an Intel Atom 525 board. The Intel board only has a PCI slot and this card fits the bill. It's rock strong and works properly with my Rosewill five bay SATA enclosure. After flashing the card to SATALink in order to use JBOD, this card functions completely! I'm finding ㆒ Mb/sec on Western Digital Green drives. Flashing the card to SATALink was a painɅ) Make a bootable DOS flash drive.two) Download updated BIOS flash program and bin file from here:http://www.siliconimage.com/products/product.aspx?pid៯three) Boot technique into DOS and flash via UPDFLASH.EXE B6600.BIN command. I discovered numerous discussions re: the SiL3124 chipset on the Ubuntu forums -- people getting quite a few problem and having to compile their personal kernels, and so forth. This was effortless to setup and was operating in minutes. I have 2 sata hd's hooked up and 1 ide. All drives show up and run at comparable speeds to on board solutions. I would suggest this to those who just want to plug and play. I wish it had four sata ports as I already have it filled up but I may well just purchase a different card.

It functions and is a very good value for its functions. To those that have not been in a position to get the 2 eSata ports to function, it may be the eSata cable -- they need to have to have a deep connector. Soon after obtaining out the purpose, I did notice that there is really a variation on the depth of the prong on eSata cables.

This card works wonderful when you get it to function. The drivers are fairly straight forward, and i Adore the truth that you can just plug in drives with no possessing to restart windows, internal or external you can plug them in any time and they will just show up. Transfer speeds are fantastic and i by no means have any problems from it. I feel i'm going to order another a single for my media center pc - these cards are amazing. I gave it four stars for 1 purpose... the only issue that i was getting is i couldnt get any external SATA drives to connect to it - and thats mainly because the ports on this card are actually low, and they will commonly be partially blocked by the metal deviders on the computer case... you will either need to notch them, or the less complicated way, remove one fully.

Comment:
This was my first experience with the Syba brand as well as with a Silicon Image chipset, and I was initially impressed. The BIOS and drivers are available in two flavours, BASE (non-RAID) and SATARAID5 (RAID enabled). I used the BASE firmware and drivers, and there were no issues with the physical installation, firmware flashing, or installing an OS from an attached drive.Once I added an external drive enclosure, however, a fairly major oversight became obvious. The card's four connectors are wired as follows:port 1 = e-SATA #1port 2 = e-SATA #2port 3 = SATA #1port 4 = SATA #2The ONLY disk which is available to the system BIOS (and therefore bootable) is... whichever one is connected to the lowest-numbered port! (If you don't want/need to boot to one of the connected drives, disregard this section). Because of how the PCB is laid out, both external connectors have priority, meaning if you want to boot from an internal drive, you cannot have anything plugged into the eSATA ports when the machine boots. For the present, I have worked around this by plugging my system drive into port 3, and using a common SATA-to-eSATA bracket to extend port 4 to the back of the case where the drive enclosure can be attached. The PCB could be Silicon Image's reference design, so whether Syba deserves all the blame here or only contributed by not correcting this issue is unknown. Hopefully a configuration program could be written into the firmware which would allow choosing the boot order, but for now no such fix exists. For people comfortable with a soldering iron: The PCB actually has traces for 6 SATA connectors, as the same design is used for the Syba SD-SATA2-4IR card (which has 4 internal ports instead of 2 external and 2 internal.) From the images on their website, it may very well be possible to attach and activate the 2 missing internal connectors. In combination with the aforementioned bracket, this would allow use of all four ports in this scenario. The SiI3124 chip supports the SATA revision 2.5 feature set, including FIS-based switching. This allows drives connected through a port multiplier to be accessed concurrently, instead of having to wait for each read or write operation to finish before another can begin. This also means NCQ will work as intended. Normally this will increase total throughput speed by having more operations running simultaneously - but consider the following theoretical maximums:PCI = 133MB/sEIDE UDMA Mode 6 = 133MB/sSATA 1.5Gbit/s = ~192MB/sA single, fast, SATA I drive should be able to max out the PCI bus. So apart from quicker small operations (like retrieving filenames from one drive while copying something to another), there is not going to be much difference in speed unless all of your drives are connected through this card. One final note - the latest BASE drivers in the XP section are from 2006, but those in the Windows 7 section also contain drivers for XP and are over three years newer:http://www.siliconimage.com/support/searchresults.aspx?pid=27&cat=3&os=11

Silicon Image Sil3124 high Finish / overall performance chipset, total of 4 SATA II ports which included two eSATA ports. This is the least expensive SATA II cards for a PCI slot. Uncomplicated to set up, Windows will pick up the driver correct away. Did not come with any SATA cable, the user manual is also basic. 1.This is a PCI card not PCI-X card.two.If you would like to run this card on "non-Raid" mode, just download the "base" bios from Siliconimage internet web page & flash it, it will take only 3 seconds to do so. Also, you can locate the most up-to-date driver beneath "Windows Update".

Im certain it could be streamlined so you didnt have to browse for the a single sys file, but it installed fine for me so I'm content. This was for win2k pro and the other people wins should be similar. Hooked up 2x 750Gb WD's to this card.

It operates. I have a Compaq Presario 6420. It now has a Sata three. challenging drive. True the E Sata ports in the rear pretty much dont match in the rear panel with the stock tower. We bought the cooler master sniper and now there is ample space for the rear ports. This computer genuinely isn't the similar with this case, HIS agp graphics card and this sata II controller card. Its hard to see that the motherboard is 8 years old. I would acquire one more 1 if i necessary it! I had the guy at radio shack install it that's probably why I say this card is so wonderful.

This card works excellent with Windows Vista Ultimate. I replaced my Main IDE drive with a SATA II drive connected to this controller. To do so I installed just this controller and no drives, booted vista, let it install the driver from the CD that comes with the card, shutdown the Pc and connected the SATA II drive, utilized acronis trueimage house 10. (from inside windows) to clone the IDE to the SATA drive. Next, you require to load the drivers for this card from a diskette. The drivers are on siloconimage.com below SiI3124, drivers, vista, SiI 񓱔 32-bit Windows SATARAID5 Driver", download and extract to a diskette. and then shutdown and remove the IDE drive. Next, boot with your Vista CD and click Repair, it won't be in a position to discover your vista installation until you load the drivers from the diskette. Once performed Vista will say it found an concern with your booting and automatically repair it. Restart and you're fantastic to go. None at all. Even though switching from IDE to SATA II only enhanced the disk efficiency in Vista from a 5.2 to a 5.five.

Selection exists for either a SATALink or SATARAID controller. Function wealthy for the price tag. Great upgrade for my Nforce2 motherboard. RAID1 is running nicely so far. Card recieved with with the SataLink bios. The RAID portion is "optional" as per the box. RAID attributes are achieved by flashing the bios with the SATARAID5 bios available from the Silicon Image webpage. The flash utility is conveniently located on the device management properties page for the controller. I consider the directions (a smaller sheet of paper labed USER MANUAL) had been lacking some of this information - they mention raid but no drivers for raid are included on the cd. The Java SATARAID5 management computer software brought on issues with the Windows Update Client - not worth installing anyway for a straightforward mirror. With the SATARAID5 bios 6.4.09 I received a warning on each boot, stating an improper shutdown occurred and that a rebuild would take place. No rebuild would occur and the process would boot typically. Flashed with an earlier bios 6.3.18 and the warning went away.Haven't been running the card as well lengthy but the System is operating great and what peace of thoughts Raid1 gives !
