Low-cost with a 9 pin header. Popped it in and it loaded devoid of a hitch. Operates fantastic. Fills a gap among boards and cases - case has a 1394 port but the brand new board doesn't?! Shame! It's a single of these "It Just Works™" items. Port faces straight down, large whoop. If you have a contemporary board this shouldn't be a dilemma due to the fact most necessary elements like RAID and whatnot are currently onboard - and the video card is above the PCI slots. So in my case, it does block my (only other) second PCI slot, but I don't thoughts because I have no use for it anyway! Not also many ports (who wants three on back where you can't reach 'em?), not as well couple of ports (hey, it has an internal header!). And it doesn't have that mocking internal "Ha-ha, you can't do anything with me!" 1394 port on the board. I hate these. Why place a plug on the inside of the case?

I used this card for an "unofficial" OS X machine that I built and it functions devoid of the need of more drivers. I chose this more than other alternatives due to the fact of the internal header so I can use the built-in firewire port of my case. As the other reviewers have stated, the placement of the internal header is downwards as an alternative of to the side facing away from the motherboard which tends to make it a pain. Nevertheless, it's not that undesirable, and offered the cost and ease of compatibility with my target OS, I nevertheless give it five stars. If you are utilizing this on an "unofficlal" OS X machine, you may well run into a dilemma of Firewire port not getting detected...just google "No FireWire ports had been identified." (with quotes) and it should point you to a forum thread that will assist you fix it.

This card installs devoid of drivers in XP. If your program asks for drivers then it is somehow jacked up or out of information. Mine installed on a fresh load of XP with SP3 with no difficulties. The pin header as other people described sticks out to the side, pressing your connector into the neighboring card if there is one there. The header really should be angled 90 degrees but it is not. If it's the only other card, you're completely fine. I had to place it in with two other cards and it all just barely match. Your mileage may well differ.

Exactly what I required. Internal Card with pins for 1394 wired to front port. Set up into Windows XP flawlessly. Design and style requirements function. It would be much better if the pins for the internal 1394 had been not coming out the side of the card. Would be much better on the prime of the card sticking straight up. Incredibly challenging to get the cable connected with cards in neighboring slots. Also, would have been nice to have a lot more than one particular create in 1394 ports on the external component of the card.

Internal header Limited connectivity Functions as advertized...this board has the internal header which is needed for most cases that have a built in firewire port. Not positive what occurred to the board configuraiton in some of the reviews...my header is in the similar location as pictured. It only has a single firewire port, and for that I give it a 4 instead of 5. But if you want the header this was the only choice I could come across that was reasonably priced.

Back port works fine, and I discovered no others that with an internal header for 1394. The იv pins do not perform... There will be no energy on the front port with this card. Suppose I could solder some wires to steal power from the back port... Manufacturer Response:Dear Buyer, Thank you for buying our Syba goods. Does what it says it will. Works fine with Windows XP. OS recognized it and installed it appropriate away. No drivers included with the item, no drivers necessary I gave it four stars result in it would have been nice to have far more than one 1394 socket on the back. Of course the write up mentioned it only had 1. Buy it, Use it, Appreciate it. I don't know about Vista because I don't have Vista and, hopefully, I by no means will.

Great card for adding assistance for a front panel 1394 port when no header exists on the motherboard. Card loads and runs with stock drivers and performs fine with camera and SBP-two compliant storage device. Pin headers for interal connector are at 90 degrees to the board. This makes cabling a bit tight if you have it in with other add in boards. Finest bet is to put it in the last slot on your board, least cable stress.

It's uncomplicated to come across firewire cards with internal six pin connectors, but not pin headers. If you're motherboard doesn't have those, but your case does you are generally left routing an ugly cable outside your case. This is the great resolution for that problem. Want it wasn't a By way of chipset. Would choose a TI, Agere or NEC...

Specifically what I required! I lately upgraded to a new mobo for additional attributes and oc potential. To my dismay, when the board came in the mail there have been no firewire 9 pin headers on the board for my front case port, let alone a firewire connector on the rear io panel. This turned out to be specifically what I was hunting for, with an internal 9 pin header, and a rear firewire port. None, but why do most add-in cards face down? I'd rather see the buisness finish of the PCB, rather then the back/bottom of it! Make certain your cable from the front case port is lengthy adequate to attain all the way down to your lowest pci slot. I have a large midtower case and was lucky adequate to have a extended enough cable(barely).

if your motherboard doesn't have a firewire port but your case does, this will resolve that issue in about 3 minutes flat, just wire the port into the cards 9 pin header. couldnt be less complicated. IT'S Low cost Also! could have came with totally free beer to make it that a lot far more enjoyable

Low-cost, trustworthy, PCI interface, header pins for front case ports. At this value range, practically nothing. Not especially wonderful at something, it does the job with out fuss. Doesn't require drivers in Win 7. As mentioned, the best feature - and the rarest - is the header pins for use with case front ports. This permits use of those ports when a replacement motherboard doesn't have headers for firewire.

If you have a good case with front firewire port, and no firewire on your motheboard, and of course you essentially Will need firewire... This is the board for you. It has the pins you want to plug your INTERNAL case wiring into, so your front 1394 port works. None, other than you clearly have a stinko motherboard like me with out onboard 1394... Lemme guess you don't have gigabit either... SHAME on your motherboard manufacturer.. these are like Ū board level add-ons. All motherboards ought to have SATA (at least two ports for uATX, and at least four for ATX), gigabit, and firewire... But if yours doesn't have FIREWIRE this is the a single you want (not drivers needed for XP or VISTA, just operates).

Can't beat the price! Only 1 port on the back maybe? But the internal 9-pin header more than tends to make up for it. Purchased it for the internal 9-pin header to hook up the firewire on the front of my case. Not quite a few cards have one particular of these, even the a lot more high-priced ones!

Performs fine. Only 1 port. I would have preferred an NEC chip, but the Through OHCI functions fine. I purchased this primarily because the card has a connector for front panel 1394a.
