Backup for a work laptop. Worked quite well -- no issues to speak of. Transfers quickly without any disconnects. I've since recommended it to some friends.

They do not honor rebate, Had a $20 mail in rebate back in January and to this day still nothing, they don't return phone calls and do not reply from emails, so don't count on the rebate

Cons: none so far

Pros: light weight. quite. water resistant. eSATA connection.
Comment:
Bought this unit yesterday and quite satisfied with it so far. It is quite and the speed was good. It has a nice light strip indication it's working. Rubber seal around the drive for water resistance, but doesn't feel as good and sticks dust. The faces is a reflective surfaces which shows finger prints. Have been spending a lot of time keeping finger prints off.

Cons: No eSATA cable provided

Pros: Price On SalePretty solid design
Comment:
Grabbed one of these since I needed a new portable drive. The one I got used a Samsung HM500JI hard drive which is pretty decent.Overall it has good build quality. It basically two pieces of black glossy plastic to sandwich the drive and a rubber liner to go around the sides. I wouldn't want to drop  this thing much cause I don't think the plastic will hold up even if the rubber offers something of a buffer. Additionally don't even thing of water and submersion despite the claims of water resistance.Heat is a concern but not overly so since HM500JI doesn't product too much. The drive is also pretty quiet in the enclosure. The one drawback is the lack of a eSATA cable with the drive which is pretty cheap of AcomData in my opinion, you have to shell out $6 or so if you need a cable.Overall I'm happy with the Samurai 500GB eSATA/USB drive. If I had to get another portable external drive though, I'd just grab a 500GB 54K OEM hard drive for $60, and a Vantec 2.5" eSATA/USB enclosure for $24 and assemble it myself; this option would have better build quality and comes with a eSATA bracket and cable etc. from Vantec.

Cons: may need 2 USB ports to runNo eSATA cable included1st one arrived DOA

Pros: USB poweredeSATAcompact, rugged design
Comment:
Bought this to go with my Asus Eee PCT91 netbook. I really like that it has eSATA for loading data (approx. 400Gb)from main system. So far, my netbook, desktop and an older Acer laptop power this using only 1 USB port. Compact design great for traveling (compared to a 3.5" 500Gb drive and Thermaltake BlackX docking station) The instructions that came with mine told me to use USB for power when using eSATA, so I don't know what others are talking about. My only beef is that the 1st unit arrived DOA - as soon as I plugged it in to my main system to load it up, I received a S.M.A.R.T. error and heard the "death rattle". NCIX was great (as usual) for RMA. I would give this 5 stars if not for the DOA.

Cons: -big-no backup software-no eSATA cable-fingerprint and dust magnet-short usb cable

Pros: -fast-silent-assembled in USA-eSATA
Comment:
The drive ran perfectly with one usb cable, despite other users having trouble. I had an old 160gb Accomdata that had a read error, and it was time to get a 500gb drive anyways. My old 160gb was lighter, had a longer usb cable, made of lightweight aluminum, and came loaded with backup software, skype, etc. The quality of accomdata has really come down these years, but this drive is faster and has more storage. Cons: e-Sata

Pros: e-SataPriceSmall Size
Comment:
The only reason I buyed this drive was because of the eSata connection. The problem is that e-Sata worked out well the first couple days then windows stop detecting it. Need both usb to use it with usb. When esata cabkle plugged in it disapear again.

Cons: rubber ring comes loose

Pros: Light, works with a UMPC
Comment:
Bought this to run with my UMPC to offload JPGs and RAW files off a limited number of mem cards. Drive worked quite well as the UMPC (very small) would power it. When I brought the drive home, one of my desktop Vista machines wanted to do a chkdsk or some such on the drive, with the loss of one file. The UMPC, also running Vista, didn't have any issues.

Cons: The bottom metal cover is convex and sticking out more than the rubber edge. This causes the enclosure unable to sit flat on the table. Whether this is a assembling oversight I don't know, but 4 pieces of rubber feet at the corners fix it.

Pros: Decent lookingAppears well madeSilenteSata
Comment:
Unlike most other enclosure, this one is a little different. Everything are basically being sandwiched between the top and bottom metal covers by 4 screws (3 hidden under warranty labels), with a single piece of rectangular rubber on the edge. Usually I am not a big fan of any shock-resistance design because the plastic/rubber designs might trap the heat inside, instead of letting it out, and heat kills hard drive. However, consider any external hard drives can die randomly these days from the cheapest to the most expensive, I just bought the cheapest and hope for the best. Time will tell. BTW, the actual drive is the Samsung HM500JI.

Cons: Needs two USB connections to function. Not enough power with just one. Doubt their water resistant claim. Low build quality.

Pros: Quite, cheap
Comment:
I thought this was broken when i got it, but after plugging both USB connections in it worked. Tested across 3 machines and had the same situation on all the machines (WDTV, Desktop machine (linux) and laptop(windows)). No where in the manual or on their website is this mentioned but clearly they know about it as the unit conveniently comes with a USB cable that has 2 standard usb plugs on one end and USB mini on the other)Going to test it over eSata and am really hoping i don't need to plug the USB and eSata plugs in simultaneously. Also the Rubber coating on the drive peals off very easily and exposes the circuit board underneath!! I accidentally took it off thinking it was supposed to come off. Thought there might be another plug underneath. Now can't get the seal to go back on perfectly. *sigh*WD 2.5" external drives are much smaller, as quite, and only require 1 usb plug. Though no eSata i'd say the build quality is far superior. Much happier with my WD drive wish i bought another. While i'm at it there are two ugly annoying white stickers that are on the bottom that say if they are removed the warranty is void. Black box, white stickers that aren't even stuck on straight. ohhhhhh how sexy and sleeek!Playing to return, this was a second chance for acomdata. They failed, never buying their crap again.

Cons: Do Not Press Down or Hold on any portion of the Rear Top Flat Side of the Housing... Makes an Awfull Fan Rubbing and Crashing Sound.

Pros: It's QUIET! Well Dampened Silicon outer shell.
Comment:
I purchased this for one reason, and one reason only. I wanted a USB powered external Hard Disk for my Bell TV 6131 Satellite Receiver. I wanted to be able to pause live TV, as well as Record my programs. The external hard disk I had, was a full sized unit 3.5", and to be honest, it made too much whirring noises (I have this setup in my bedroom, where I sleep). I was praying and hoping that the Samurai 500GB was going to work and be able to be powered up through the 6131 IRD USB input (and thankfully, it works!). And the most important part, NO NOISE! As a rule, the 6131 ird is not recommended to power the external hd, but 2.5" take such little power that I had no problems.
