Cons:
only requiring one usb plug instead of 2 would be nice
Pros: samsung quality, no coasters |

Cons:
None (Speed maybe?) Cannot complain.
Pros: Works great, as intended Comment:
Needed one of those for my work, since my netbook doesn't have any DVD drive. Works very well and is very nice to go around with. |

Cons:
Glossy = finger printsNot the fastest drive
Pros: Small and compact Comment:
I need a drive for my server as I never bothered getting an internal drive and just sometimes felt was convenient to have an external one. It does what it's suppose to and the small form factor is nice. |

Cons:
-glossy finish
Pros: -small and portable Comment:
This external drive works well and is small enough that i can carry around with my netbook when needed. Would definitely recommend. |

Cons:
uses 2 USB plugs to function
Pros: typical DVD rom drive, a must for netbook which do not have DVD drive built in Comment:
Burns quite efficiently but it still feels slower than any typical internal DVDr drive. The reading portion is a little loud, the buzzing sound is quite noticeable but it is required for any netbook without DVD drive built in. |

Cons:
Could be faster
Pros: SlimUSB poweredAffordable Comment:
This is a nice looking, simple external DVD writer that runs on USB alone - no AC power adapter required! It is a little on the slow side, but I'm not sure if it's because it's connected via USB. Takes a little over 10 minutes to burn a DVD at 8x while my desktop drive can do it in 8 minutes. |
twin@NCIX Rating: Review Date: 08/29/10 |
Cons:
none, i don't think these can get any smaller
Pros: great for laptops without an optical drive Comment:
even though it comes with a usb cable that has 2 plugs on one side to draw more power, it seems to work fine for me just plugging in one. |
xbournex@NCIX Rating: Review Date: 08/09/10 |
Cons:
2 USB's required
Pros: Small and portable Comment:
It's got a nice black gloss finish. For 50$, it's a much better price than those big box retailers. You can find the blue one of this drive for about 45 on weekend instore sales. |

Cons:
None.
Pros: Fast and reliable Comment:
Great external drive for netbooks and for replacing laptop drives. Decent speed which is comparable to laptop burners but slow compared to desktop burners.Recommended as a fairly cheap solution |

Cons:
No carrying caseFingerprints
Pros: Plug in and goSeems SturdyDoes it's job Comment:
Picked this up to go with my new netbook. It did it's job making backup discs and seems well built. Was super easy to get working (just plugged it in and went.) Doesnt come with any case or covering so the glossy black collects fingerprints like a detective at a crime scene.All-in-all a great purchase. |

Cons: -holy snappin crap. no bad news to report
Pros: -it is a drive that reads discs!-will likely work as required. Comment:
bought this drive for one reason only. to install windows on a little net book for the business that i work for. It worked so well i wanted to buy one of these drives for no reason other then it worked very well for me. long term performance is a mystery to me at this point. Samsung has not failed me in the appliance area so far. |
Invincible@NCIX Rating: Review Date: 02/10/10 |
Cons: Not exactly a burning speed demon, but gets the job done.
Pros: Looks, form factor, single USB power requirement. Comment:
What more can one ask for? I bought this as my old tablet PC doesn't have an optical drive and I thought this would be a good solution. When I first got it, the device did not want to open. After fiddling with it and thinking I had received a defective unit, I ended up forcing it open with a paper clip (manual eject). After that, everything has been fine and functioning as it should! It's reasonably quiet and has read/burned all the media I have thrown its way so far. Granted, that hasn't been a lot so I'm not sure I really *needed* it but I'm happy to have it. |

Cons: noisy
Pros: no external A/C adapter requires Comment:
The drive looks good. Works with just single USB cable. But it is a bit noisy and not suitable for media playback. Will help you install Win7 on a netbook though. |

Cons: Does not come with a travel casePlastic body - durability concern?
Pros: Slim and compactRuns off USB powerUses only a single USB port Comment:
Bought this for a Dell Mini 10v netbook a few months ago and it worked great out of the box. It uses only a single USB 2.0 port although the cable provides the option of using two ports if your power is too low.Burning DVDs with Nero 6 was smooth in WinXP. Did not try to use the included Roxio. Zero software install - plug and go.Wish it came with a carrying pouch to keep the cable and drive safe during transport. Ended up using my Sony MDR-NC6 headphone case instead.Wife primarily uses this and finds it great that she only needs to plug in one cable. |

Cons: Shiny surface scratches easilyOccupies two USB portsLimited to 8x speeds
Pros: Does not require external power supplyComes with "double-headed" USB cableNice and compact Comment:
For mobile users, the most important feature of this drive is that it uses only USB power and no external power supply. The drive comes with a special USB cable that plugs into two USB ports, presumably because the USB standard requires ports to supply only 500mA and is insufficient to supply the drive's maximum requirements. Some say that only one plug needs to be used. Whether it works or not will depend on what one is doing and the machine the drive is connected to.The drive has a maximum DVD read/write speed of 8x. Some might have a problem with that, but I don't mind waiting. The focus of this unit is mobility, not speed. This is a great choice for netbook users. |
felix789@NCIX Rating: Review Date: 10/08/09 |
Cons: Only burns at 8x
Pros: Nice exterior, very quiet, zero vibration Comment:
Got this during a daily deal at a great price. The drive has an attractive glossy case and is very compact. It comes with a USB cable that requires two USB connections at the computer, but whether both of these connections are required or not depends on how much power your computer outputs per USB port. Desktops can usually get away with just one USB connection. It would be great if Samsung included a pouch for the drive and the cable. |
Caleb_H@NCIX Rating: Review Date: 10/01/09 |
Cons: - Glossy surface is a fingerprint magnet (nitpicking)
Pros: - Slim and compact- Error free burning- Mini-USB plug makes use of a whole slew of existing cables.- No external power supply required.- Excellent value when purchased on sale ($56) Comment:
It ships with a mini USB cable that has 2USB plugs, you don't need to use both of them to use the drive. It powers just fine off one of the ports. That being said, it's a fantastic drive. I've purchased multiple of these drives now for machines w/out CD drives (ie: netbooks & tablets) and they work like a charm. |
Cisco Kidd@NCIX Rating: Review Date: 09/24/09 |
Cons: Would have been nice to get enough power via 1 USB rather than using 2 USB ports
Pros: Slim, stylish fairly fast for external portable dvd drive. Has been able to read all dvd's placed in it. No ext power brick used Comment:
Stylish compact , produces solid burns , purchased for a Wind U100 netbook to just make installing things easier than using a flash drive. Keeps the wife factor simple and easy to use for my son as well. Big bonus is no external power brick required just gets power off USB ports.Purchased at 55 on sale can not really complain as it has simplified things and allows one to watch a movie if need be rather than copying/ripping to the hard drive. Overall a decent dvd burner This review was modfied by poster @ 09-24-09 09:11 PM |
consistently won't burn if only one plug is used but..at least i know what the issue is. otherwise, great burner, lightweight, highly recommended
