Cannot play Avatar blu-ray with the latest bios installed

I bought this drive in the Markham NCIX store helped by one of their staff (having blu-ray software is one of my main requirement). I installed the drive and the bundled software POWERDVD 8, and it blows through all my blu-ray movies with great clarity, beautiful quality and no hicup whatsoever except Avatar which I work around by installing a decoding software. I am very happy with the NCIX staff who help me picked this drive and the overall peformance of the drive. However, I am taking off 1 star for the product as Samsung have not yet resolved the Avatar playback issue. |

Does all that I need it to. Plays & reads blu-rays perfectly, reads & writes to DVD's and CD's as well. Unlike the last time I got a DVD drive, there was no DVD aleady inside it! :P the only weakness I have found is the somewhat flimsy tray, but I find a lot of trays like that anyway At a price of $59.99 (thanks to one of the previous sales) it's nothing but pure excellence! |

I purchased this to play blu rays as i already had a regular burner, this is great for the price compared to some of the other drives. I have not had any problems with it or conflicts with the other drive looks better in real life than in the pic as well. I would recommend it. |

I use this in a HTPC setup. When you first startup it can be a bit noisy but it settles it down after a while. Haven't tried the DVD burner as yet but it shouldn't have any problems with it. I would buy it again. |

Pros: Blue ray player/dvd burner for under 100 dollars.Plays blue rays great and is a big difference from regular DVD.Burns great although only burned on a couple dvds since purchase. Comment:
I bought this with my latest PC Build. I always wanted a Blu ray player and i got this one for 79.99. I couldn't pass up the price. So far it has worked flawlessly and I tried a blu ray move on my high def monitor and WOW, what a difference compared to a regular DVD Movie. |

I purchased the SH-B083L a few days ago, it arrived today. The drive was easy to install, even in the Antec 900. The black color of the drive makes it fit right in with the case.The drive came with a SATA cable, and 4 screws to mount the drive, it was very easy to install.I have not tried playing a blu-ray disk, however I did copy some music files to a really old CD-RW I had. It took about 5 minutes for the copy to complete (12 songs). There was no performance decrease during writing either.The product comes with a lot of useful software, including lightscribe. I did not have any lightscribe disks, but the setup was simple, and a nice touch.I was very happy for the price I got it at ($80 CDN) and I would recommend it to anyone who is looking for something like this. |

I was looking at units costing twice as much as this one. Came across a thread asking why spend so much when this samsung unit was 1/2 the price and just as good.Read up on some reviews and decided for the price, I couldn't go wrong.Have not tested the blu ray writing ability yet but any regular burning I've done have been fast and accurate with no coasters.It's early yet but at this point, I'd get this one again. |

Great way to add blue ray to your computer for far less than the cost of a standalone player. Great picture and sound, have had no issues so far with performance or compatibility with media. Great drive for backing up and archiving data to dl dvd's, so far on the dvd burning side no coasters have been created and the disks have been playable in every device I have tried them in. |

I'm quite happy with this drive. I haven't been using the Blu-Ray all that much as of yet, but for burning and reading DVDs and CDs, it's been working great. I guess the mark of a good optical drive is that you don't have all that much to say about it. :) |

Pros: Quiet operation, good performance overall for HTPC operation. Good software bundle but for media playback, but I prefer ImedianHD software suite for this application Comment:
I did not test the blu-ray section so far, but as for DVD playback, it's responding quite well. Here Is my setup:amd ph. 9850integrated video 790 gx chipset with 4gb of ram and 128mb sideport RAM. (foxconn a7da-s)updated 10.2 drivers from AMD. |

Pas compatible avec les ports SATA de la carte maitresse réglé en mode AHCI. Ceci peut être problèmatique avec les carte maitresses qui ne peuvent pas ajuster une partie des ports SATA en mode IDE.Le LED bleu du bouton d'éjection est peut être trop lumineux pour utilisation en HTPC.

Ce lecteur Blu-Ray/graveur DVD est un bon achat à 100$ lorsqu'on possède une carte mère qui peut avoir quelques ports SAT qui peuvent être ajusté en mode IDE tout en laissant une partie des ports SATA en mode AHCI. Pour le reste tous est très bien et la boite inclus un cable SAT un un bundle de lociels complet pour le Blu-Ray. |

This is a good drive, and I picked it up for a quite reasonable $100 on boxing day. The software bundle it came with seemed better than LG drives I've bought in the past.I would have preferred a matte finish or even the same glossy finish for both the tray and the drive, glossy finishes tend to collect fingerprints. |

Bought this for a HTPC build. Reads anything I throw at it very well, no complaints there.I do wish it came with a silver bezel though, as my htpc case is silver and it sticks out like a sore thumb. Also, the entire eject button is the read/write light, so it stands out in a darkened room when watching a movie.Overall satisfied with it! |
I was surprised with this blu-ray reader. First, I didn't read the description and was happy to see it was a retail unit. So no need to get screws and a sata cable. It drive is also very beautiful (fake mirror on the tray, blue led).
