This one is my own fault really: so I will write a review in hopes of helping other avoid my fail.THIS IS NOT A SATA DVD DRIVE!(I, of course, had no chance to actually test it out so my score of 4 may be disregarded.)

Cons: Bland faceplate, no Lightscribe

Pros: IDE, Burns DVDs, no coasters yet.
Comment:
I got this drive (on sale) to replace a worn-out DVD burner in my old XP machine. This drive is as reliable as I'd expect it to be, I haven't burned any coasters in it after over 100 discs. It reads all DVDs I've put in it without a problem. The only downside is that it doesn't support Lightscribe, but I've got other drives for that.

Bought to replace parents burnt out drive. Works well, though the design is a bit fugly. Wish it was a gloss, but it works, it's IDE and not too loud. I would recco. Beward OEM people, buy your IDE Cables from NCIX

No complaints on this DVD Drive, as soon as it's an IDE drive and that the price didn't get higher than SATA drive, it could be buyed as a good replacement if your old IDE drive stopped working ! Of course since it's OEM there is no software coming with it.

Cons: None I can think of

Pros: Price is good, reads fast
Comment:
Bought this a few months ago and it has been a great addition to my desktop. Reads a lot faster than both my retired Lite-On DVD-ROM and NEC-3500 which I replaced with this unit. I only burn at 8x so I can't comment on it's performance burning at any faster than that but at 8x it's rock solid.

I got this IDE model instead of SATA because I wanted to reserve SATA for my hard drives. The drive works really well and it is quiet when reading/burning dvds.

Cons: -IDE is a dying interface-DVD is a dying format-Realized only later that i didn't even want a dvd drive mucking-up the look of my case.

Pros: -Speedy-Black-Opened up a SATA port
Comment:
Its a DVD drive, its fast, its pretty quiet, its a name you know, it uses IDE and the price is right. Should last as long as DVDs are still around... or until they become commonly mistaken by the youth as something you "catch" if your not careful.

Pros: Black, cheap, fast, does what I need it to.

I bought this drive just so that I could read and write DVD's for a while. It works so I have no complaints about this drive. If you need it for basics, I would recommend it.

Cons: Support

Pros: PriceLookQuality
Comment:
Really good dvd burner for the price and does everything you need it to do. The only issue I had was when i updated the firmware it would not detect the drive. After many emails to Samsung their support in my eyes was useless. However I fixed the issue but unplugging the drive from both power & sata port in the computer.

Great cheap drive that fits perfectly with the new black look which so many towers are coming out in. Just remember to bring your screws with you when you go to install it, I forgot :)

Cons: IDE connection instead of SATA

Pros: Cheap and reliable
Comment:
I bought this drive for my first PC build, I paid a little bit too much attention to the price and ratings, and didn't look at the fact that it uses a IDE connection. Only issue here is it messes up my cable management. Otherwise it performs great and responds quickly. DVD's run and burn flawlessly. Overall I would definitely get this one again, although I may look at getting one with a SATA connection to ease up the mess inside the tower (not to mention the IDE cable runs really close to the intake for my GPU, which I am not super stolked about).

I bought this because I'm building up a server and wanted to keep all of the SATA ports for HDDs, job done. This does exactly what I need it to, and it's samsung so it'll stand the test of time.

It good to know that IDE drive prices don't tend to go up like old IDE HDD and memories. It doing the job right with burning and reading, no complaints.

Purchased this drive a couple weeks ago to replace a failing one. It doesn't come with any fancy packaging, but who needs that? This drive worked right out of the box and it is fast. The price is perfect and I am a huge fan of Samsung DVD-RW drives--have two of them installed on different computers and they both work flawlessly.

Cons: None - just as reliable as the previous 202s recently retired to basement HTPC duty.

Pros: Quiet, fast, reliable burns.Does the bitsetting I need - with a little tweaking ;-)Helps keep my old workhorse PC burning 10-20 discs a week.Got them on sale so better than the already-reasonable retail price.
Comment:
The 202 & 203 LightScribe were my first experiences with Samsung burners. Their reliability & performance sold me on this 222 and ... so far, so good.Firmware upgrades are easy as pie, and these drives do all I want from them for an excellent price. As long as Sammy keeps making them, I'll keep buying them. Bios/windows say this is not a samsung but something else.. Other than that, the DVD writer works great, never had any issues with it, and is at least $10 cheaper than other DVD writers..Haven't checked or tried how the lightscribe works..
