Low-cost. Green. Nonetheless pretty rapid. Purchased two for a RAID 1 information drive. 1 drive died in significantly less than a week. I suppose that it will be a test of NewEgg's RMA method on no matter whether they can get a replacement to me prior to the other one particular dies. TGIHB (Thank Goodness I Have Backups) What great is an unreliable HDD? I study all the critiques of DOA drives and passed it off to poor handling in shipping. Now, you also are warned.

Not certain however I bought three of these and all 3 show only 32MB cache making use of SeaTools version 1.2..4. They are all marked as ST2000DL003-9VT166 with firmware CC32. I haven't tested the SATA 6 however but will update when I do. Manufacturer Response:Recent buyer critiques of the new Seagate Barracuda Green 2TB hard drive reported confusing outcomes making use of Seagate Seatools computer software. Seagate has confirmed a defect in Seatools which incorrectly reports the chase size at 32MB.We'd like to thank the careful reviewers who located and reported this defect. Seagate is now operating to release an updated version of Seatools to repair this bug. We can also assure you that all Barracuda Green drives Ƒ.5TB and 2.0TB capacities) are in fact equipped with 64MB of cache and do in truth assistance the new SATA 6Gb/s interface. These tough drives also incorporate SmartAlign Technology for Sophisticated Format which offers all the advantages of the new AF 4K sector technologies with out the want to be concerned about challenging drive partition alignment. Please accept our apologies for any inconvenience due to this problem and look for a new version of Seatools soon.Thank You - Seagate Technology

Had a Western Digital 2TB Green drive die... the warranty was 1 year, and it died in 1.5 years go figure. I've by no means had a WD drive final incredibly long. Seagate is nonetheless the ideal in the hdd enterprise. HDDs are only as fantastic as their warranty. I expect a minimum 3 years of flawless overall performance out of these two new drives.

Loved my initial Seagate so substantially (see preceding critique) that I had to acquire another 1. Ordered at 1ᛃpm, arrived at 9ᛆam the next morning. Can't beat that for absolutely free ŗ day" shipping.Been undertaking anxiety tests and checking for errors for 13 hours now, and no difficulties. My initially drive was mounted lower in my tower exactly where it gets far more air flow and under no circumstances gets substantially hotter than 30C, this drive is mounted greater with no airflow and it gets to 37C throughout tension testing. Not actually a con, just attempting to give an precise review. It still runs eight-9C cooler than the drives it replaced, but not as cool as the drive in my first assessment. It had the advantage of a case fan blowing on it. I got to hand it to Seagate, I pulled a bonehead move and dropped my boot drive, a 2007 model Seagate ST3500630NS (Sata II 500gb 7200rpm) with 24,964 powered on hours on it. That comes to 2.85 years of operating according to SeaTools. I've under no circumstances dropped a hard drive prior to, and it fell 4 feet onto a challenging wood floor and made a terrible noise. Surprisingly, neither SeaTools nor HD Tune Pro uncover any errors on it. Completely awesome. I'd have bet dollars it would be either dead or have lots of errors, but it's still going robust. Nonetheless, as soon as these new 2TB drives have earned my trust, it will be replaced as the new drives are twice as rapid, run cooler and are considerably quieter. Nevertheless, I do not suggest dropping your challenging drive. Lesson learned is that old IDE tough drives could temporarily hang from their molex power connector, whilst Sata drives will not, they come out incredibly very easily letting the drive fall to the floor. Sounds like a excellent drive, and a lot of other people on here appear to adore it - I wish I was getting that encounter... Immediately after hours and hours on the seagate site, forums, and near 10 attempts to format this issue, I am about to give up. It wont do it, and I am not certain why. My ata controllers are up to date, I am running win 7 64 ultimate, I have applied non win disk management, as well. Even seatools/ seagate disk wizard gives nothing useful. Their web site could be substantially far better. When I was checking to make certain my M.B. components had the right driver, I was quite impressed by the NVidia sit.

Operates quite properly. No challenges with the Advanced Format on XP SP3. Plugged it in, did a swift format, and began copying. This took about 10 minutes. None so far This drive is utilized to backup two different machines. It is connected with a Sata to eSata adapter cable. One particular machine runs XP SP3 and is only Sata I capable. The other runs Win 7 x64 and is Sata II.When copying from a Sata I drive on the Sata I Machine, the create speed is 55 - 65. When copying from a Sata II drive (WD 1.5GB EADS) on the Sata I Machine, the create speed is 75 - 85.When copying from a Sata II (WD 1.5GB EADS) drive on the Sata II Machine, the write speed is 80 - one hundred. When copying from a 7200rpm Sata II drive (Samsung HD 103SJ) on the Sata II Machine, the create speed was a SUSTAINED 120 -130. I say WAS due to the fact that the drive is now just about half full, and has slowed to 95 - 115. Which is standard, and nevertheless very good.I have a couple of WD Blacks that won't match this, and I'm a WD Fan.

This is the second drive with the same problem. I've purchased at least a dozen HDD's just before, and this drive is the only a single w/ formating concerns ideal off the bat...

I've had these for a year or more now, three of them actualy, running 24/7 most of that time in a little acer home server I use for bit torrent and supplying media to my various devices. Haven't had any issues at all except that they are now all over 95% full and I need more. Not buyin them at this price though.I like to think of future expandablity, so I've picked up a couple hitachi 4tb drives and an 8bay esata/usb3 enclosure, which should be more than enough for the forseeable future. If you don't download a ton of music/video's, or you're a "watch it and delete  it" kinda person, this drive will probly do you fine.
