ha ha this hard drive is a good one for 100 bucks just back up your computer and go or use it for main storage i use it on 4 laptops and i plug other machines into these hard drives weekly and dont have any issues as long as you dont throw it on the ground and read all the details and specs making sure its compatible you should be fine buying this one i recommend this drive to anyone who wants good quality drive for not that much money most of these reviews the hard drive messes up because of user error i dont uses mine as main storage unit so inst not always on i just back up and go or retrieve and go if you use it like that you shouldn't have a problem i haven't software isn't rocket science either once you have it installed you can jump right into your files just take care of it right and you should be fine i recommend this to everyone buy 5 of em while they are thisprice

Thought all my storage problems for years to come would be solved with this purchase. However when it fell 12 inches from the top of my CPU tower to the plush, padded carpet below, the drive failed losing all of my work, music, etc. Thankfully my stuff was backed up on another computer.

Had 2 of these Seagate drives--drive lacks alot of features that should be included. Like the ability to connect to firewire or e-sata. These drives tip over very EASY and that means sooner or later your drive will break! If you have pets forget about it! I bought 2 seagate 1 tb drives and both have now fallen off my desk and both broke. The 2nd one fell onto some wires, did not even hit the ground and it still broke! It wasn't much of a fall yet it was enough to break the drive. So now I have 2 worthless seagate drives with my info. Are these drives made out of toothpicks? this is ridiculous DO NOT BUY these. Try OWC

THE EXTERNAL DRIVE WILL FAIL. I PAID $200 FOR MY DRIVE LAST YEAR. 1 WEEK AGO IT WOULD NOT RECOGNIZE MY DRIVE. I LOST OVER 600 GB OF DATA. I WAS TOLD THEY WOULD REPLACE MY DRIVE BUT NOT DATA. RECOVERY METHODS COSTS $1,000 OR MORE.I FOUND AN ARTICLE ON THE INTERNET SAYING THAT THESE DRIVES ARE FAILING AT AN ALARMING RATE. SEVERAL PEOPLE HAVE HAD THIS PROBLEM. THE ARTICE WAS WRITTEN BY DONALD MELANSON. YOU CAN LOOK UP THE WORDS SEAGATE BARRACUDA 7200.11 DRIVES SAID TO BE FAILING AT AN ALARMING RATE. THIS PRODUCT IS WORTHLESS. DO NOT PURCHASE ONE.

I purchased two terabyte desk top hard drives. Both drives died in less two weeks. Heads up folks: when you make a warranty claim and send your drive back they send you a refurbished drive NOT a new drive. Demand a digital copy of your warranty expiration date or Seagate will screw you. Many companies are invalidating warranties on second claims because the product you send back is not the

I was a big fan of the Western Digitals until I tried the Seagate. The Seagate is quieter and comes with decent (simple, yes, but decent) backup software. If the warranty for drives purchased here is the same as retail, it's an amazing five years. Some percentage of drives are going to fail and some are going to be lemons regardless of which brand name is on the front--it's the warranty and customer service that counts in the end.

I am using the hard drive on my mac and it works perfectly. I have it as my time machine disk and I did not have any problems so far.Back-ups occur quickly and the disk is very quiet.

First, this retailer is Great! Second,Ive had this product for a few weeks now,it seems the harddrive does not like Fat32.Have not been able to reformat it yet. People with Fat32 systems should be cautious.

I have had this product for a week. I have spent hours reinstalling the software and turning off norton features so that the encryption would work. It still does not work. Great price; plenty of space.

I really should've read more reviews before purchasing this item, turns out this is a very common problem with Seagate externals. During normal usage (I was watching a movie from it on my computer), it started clunking and the movie stopped playing. I reset it, but the clunking was still there. I really wish I could give this product a zero, but one is the lowest rating.

I have two of these I swap around to different machines. I use one to run Adobe CS4 Master Suite on my Laptop. I installed the software to the external drive while connected to my laptop and it works fine. I use the second as a scratch disk for all applications including big Video Files(DVD Size). I can use both on all my machines.

I have had this for months now and have had no problems. It is a great drive with a good price and I would recommend this to anyone. The only bad thing I think about this is that the whole from lights up but that is just my opinion. If you dont mind the lights this is an excellent buy!!

I order these for clients all the time as well as have a few myself and I have yet to have one die as some of you have described. I have seen an external (WDigital) look dead but it was just the enclosure, once taken out all data was recovered. Anyone using backup software that comes with any of these isn't smart anyway, and you need to make sure your OS, like 2000 has NTFS not FAT32 or it won't work with it. Will work with Mac as well if you change the drive from NTFS back to FAT32.

I have had a Seagate 500GB for about 1 year, and I have had no issues ever since. I am using both Windows XP pro SP3 and Windows Vista Ultimate 32Bit I did not install any software/application on it, just the driver of its own. Happy with it and looking for more storage :D Maybe I'm one of the very few fortunate customers. Regards, An Houstonian

I have a Seagate 500gb that's about 4 years old and never had a problem with it other than my dropping it on the floor and cracking the plastic casing. I didn't lose any data after the drop and I still use it today. I also have a 1tb Seagate Free Agent Pro, I've had it for about 8 months now. No problems with this one either other than the software doesn't support 64 bit. I purchased an after market program(Memeo Auto Back Up Pro)and it works great, just set it and leave it. The extra software cost is well worth it. Remember when you buy a hard drive get one that's a name brand. When you want software don't buy it from a hardware company. If mine dies after I post this review I'll let you know :)

Didn't see on this site anything about OS compatibility. FYI, it only runs on WinXP and Vista. It does NOT run on Win2000; the latter doesn't recognise the USB HDD. An expensive bookend for now.

I've been using this drive on a Vista system for over 4 months now with zero issues. I don't run all the cr@pware software (just the driver) that came with it, and use it for full video storage and viewing - the USB 2.0 interface 'just works' with no latency issues. No complaints for a 1TB drive for a hundred bucks.

This worked for a week or two then crashed. I took apart the hard drive and it it seems that the bearing is faulty in these drives. If you do a google search for these drives on the internet it seems that everyone is reporting faliures with these hard drives. Until the manufacturing defect is corrected aI would not recommend purchasing on of these units.

I have several external hard drives and this is the only one that gives me any problems. If I shut down my PC this drive is not recognized upon restart. I have a Western Digital with no problems and it isn't usb port related because I have run every scenario to test that out. I am able to get the drive to show on my PC after some time but it is a pain.

I've been using this drive for about a month on an older PC running Windows XP and it's worked great. Instalation was easy. I haven't used the backup feature but have encrypted 250GB on it with no problems. I did think that someone was gently thudding on the wall though and realized I'd pushed the drive up against the back of my desk and the drive would occasionally make a thud sound, but moving it away from the pressboard back of the desk solved the odd issue. Drive keeps fairly cool when in use. I'm happy with it.

Excellent. Just plug and go. This HD boosted my notebook performance. Instructions are on line, but the piece pretty much loaded itself. Lots of space for a small price. I have windows Vista and had no problems
