I have been building my own systems and had computers for over 20 years. This is the first HD to fail. Maybe I am Lucky, always used WD. This was also the first and last Seagate I will ever Own. 13 months old. Started the Computer and no Hard drive, Dead as a doornail. Could feel it spin, set-up and BIOS does not see it. The drive was a 500GB from this same series of drives 7200.11. Your choice, but I would not waste my money. Fortunately I back regularly to an external.

Cons: - None

Pros: - Quiet & cool- Does what it's supposed to

I had this for my last rig and it does what it does to. Holding 320GB, it is sold at a pretty good price. I would definitely recommend.

Cons: memory cache5 years went to 3nothing else for the price

Pros: Pricewarranty good replacement
Comment:
I bought this hard disk drive for a customer, he wanted to replace his old 80gb in his computer. Its a very good drive for the price, but now it seems a little bit old, like you can get 500 gb for almost the same price so I not recommend get this drive, and get a 500gb instead. Else than that, those are great drives.

I love these drives. They are very quiet compared to my first generation Seagate SATA drives. I only own Seagate drives. I have two of these in a RAID 1 configuration and the performance is quite better compared to my old drive. This drive could have been 10 or 12 dollars cheaper but I needed a drive. And as always, TD delivered very fast.

Good drives, they're quiet, too. I smoked one of these in a RAID5 (wasn't in front of a fan), dropped in a replacement, and it wrote right back in! Nice. P.S. He did have 12 running for over a year, I've had 6 humming daily since Jan. '07. Do your research before you slam.

So i had this drive for about 2 years when the boot sector went bad recently. Out of 6 seagate drives i've had this is the only one to ever fail on me. I have a 120 gig that has outlived it's warranty, which is impressive with seagate's long warrantys. I went to the we site to file the RMA, and was very pleased. For $20 they shipped me a new drive first, and included all of the packing materials and the pre-paid shipping label to send my old drive back. For $20 i saved myself an hour of running around and at least $10 worth of headache. All said and done i'm super impressed.

Cons: none, really

Pros: Able to limit SATA2 to SATA1 with jumper, 5 year warranty
Comment:
Seagate has a great policy with 5 year warranties on new HDs, and the ability to limit it to SATA1 speeds is nice (necessary for some older mobos, like the ASUS A8V-Delux).

I am pretty sure these are the same drives that I have had for a little over a year now. I am running a pair in a RAID 2+0 array. The only issues I have had with them are when I placed them in adjacent slots. I was getting BSOD errors and when I tried rebooting the array wouldn't mount or showed drive errors. I seperated the drives, cleaned my case filters and haven't had any problems since. As soon as I can afford them I plan on buying 2 more for a better RAID setup.

Cons: noisy drive

Pros: Single plater, was cheap compared to the other when I bought it
Comment:
Good drive, decent speed. My hard drive works all the time since my computer is boinc all the time. So the noise do get on my nerves. all in all good drive, but for the current pricing I would;d go for the sammy single platter.

How can the reviewer on October 30th have been using ''12 of these drives running for over a year with no problems'' when they have only been out for about 6 months?

I have had 12 of these drives running for over a year with no problems. I have these in several diffrent brands of computers as well. Not sure why other users have problems with these???? I have used the Seagate brand since the early 90's when i used their SCSI Barracuda drives in custom RAID cabinets I use to build. Have had some failures but nothing that would be considered a bunch.

This drive is the worst drive I have ever had. First 2 weeks it was great. Then I started getting metallic clicks and hard boot sound when loading Vista x64 that would last 20-30 seconds and not load vista till it stopped. I RMA the first one and got a second and 2 weeks later it happened again. Don't buy this hunk of junk....get the Western Digital 320gb.
