500Gb spinning 򞀠rpm + 4Gb of SSD that works on a studying curve ... pretty speedily as well I may add. I put one particular of these in an ASUS G53JW-XN1 that I bought right here at Newegg for my sons birthday and compared it to my ASUS G73JH-A1. The final results have been quite impressive. This drive booted my sons machine a full minute and ten seconds ahead of mine and as time went on, in the short time I had to test it, it bested my machines boot instances by a minute and twenty seconds. This all occurred in the course of a week and a half. In reality, I was so impressed with the overall performance of this drive that I went and purchased yet another 1 for my machine which is at work as I variety this assessment. This hybridized drive is an remarkable small piece of technology. Retain up the great operate Seagate! The drive runs a bit warmer than the stock SG Momentus ST9500420AS 7200.4 drive by about 8c degrees according to Open Hardware Monitor (Google it, it's a totally free app., and thorough), but the larger temps are nicely worth the functionality increase. Aside from that, the drive does need to have the newest firmware SD24 (SD25 will be coming out shortly) from the Seagate web site installed or it may gray screen your machine. Just to be on the secure side, and to tie up any loose ends, I cleaned/repaired my registry as well, and the error screens stopped. The explanation it doesn't say I'm a verified owner is due to the fact I won't buy a hard drive from newegg, despite the fact that I'd like to, due to the fact of their incredibly poor shipping habits where hard drives are concerned. Who desires a DOA hard drive because some clod just threw it in the bottom of a box and shipped it? When newegg tends to make an announcement that it will Appropriately ship their challenging drives I'll begin buying really hard drives from them again. Until then, I'll remain with the zon It would be a constructive deal clincher, at least for me, if Seagate had been to generate this kind of drive in a 1Tb version for the 2.five inch kind aspect, and would be a solid deal clincher if they'd create it for the three.5 inch form element from 500Gb-2Tb, or much more, with 8Gb of SSD. It wouldn't lay down the SSD industry but it would confident place a dent in their armor! Just envision an application responsive drive like this with all that storage capacity behind it. I installed this in my old PSǙ devoid of any complications. The HDD is definetly more rapidly than the stock disk that came with the PS and all worries in regards to disk space and saving PS Plus! games are gone. NONE 1. Backup your save games either working with the PS Plus service or a thumbdrive.2. Download the most up-to-date PS OS from Sony onto a thumbdrive.

Quicker than any other spinning disk and it fits in my laptop. Runs kind of hot, owing to 7200RPM spindle speed. Seagate appears to be abandoning this product line, which is very a shame.

Quite quick load instances! A worthy get. Added this one particular to my full tower. From boot to login is noticeably faster! Update the firmware. During gaming I've seen some slight hesitation on World in Conflict though not overly annoying. Good get for the money to hold you more than till SSD's turn into a lot more reasonably priced.

Purchased this to replace a unbearably slow 5400 samsung hd. Quickly following installing, booted personal computer up many occasions, clocking the time from energy to the (windows 7) login screen. With the earlier hard drive my boot was about 1 m 20 s, and right after the adaptive memory took impact my load time on the momentus xt booted in about 30 s.Word: 4 sChrome: two s iTunes: 6 sI've been operating this hd for about 8 months now and have had no problems to speak of. It runs off of less power than my samsung and is fairly quiet other than some subtle clicking when it starts ramping up for bigger files/programs. Very best hd I've ever owned. Would definitely like additional flash memory but this is excellent for the price tag Maintaining this issue until SSDs grow to be cheaper

Good drive so far. Upgraded from a stock 5400 drive to this and boot up occasions and program commence-ups are noticeably quicker. Updated the firmware proper after I cloned my drive and it was seriously easy working with Windows. none. Bought this mainly because I wanted the storage space of a regular really hard drive and the speed increase of an ssd. Currently it is a big improvement over the 5400 drive that was in my laptop. Glad I got it.

Speed Value per gig, guarantee vs. efficiency I'd been wanting one particular of these for a number of months as a good upgrade for my i7 laptop's stock 5400rpm challenging drive (BTW, why Dell place a 5400rpm hdd in an i7 XPS laptop is beyond me). I'd hoped for massive speed increases. Not so a lot. Boot time is a small quicker. Significantly less than a minute from windows boot to login. But honestly, I feel just about any newer 7200rpm hdd with a decent cache is going to do fairly close to that as lengthy as you're not loading a bunch of crapware. I don't see enormous overall performance gains opening Photoshop, Firefox, or other often utilised apps. Bottom line... the Seagate Momentus 500gb was แ when I paid ๳ for the Momentus XT. Would I pay the distinction again? Nope. Would I propose it to customers or close friends? Nope.

I have been undertaking a lot study about no matter if or not I ought to obtain a SSD or HDD when stumbled across this gem. Immediately after installing my OS and programs, I have observed a substantial raise in overall performance compared to the stock HDD 񢾘rpm). Definitely some of the performance acquire is just due to the RPM improve, but either way windows boots faster and individual system load quickly. In particular, the Sims 3 load time has been reduce in half. I know it's not the greatest benchmark, but it's a brand new personal computer and that's all I have on it so far. None

Replaced my 40gb really hard drive on my PS3. This factor is ripping via load screens, reducing hd lag, and increased my storage capability by far more than 10x. Apparently, as this drive learns my most typical applications it will get even quicker. None so far. Nonetheless early. I haven't had any problems with the PS3 not being capable to manage the 7,200 rpm drive. I backed almost everything up, installed the new hard drive, formatted it with the PS3, and everything loaded back up with no an issue.

The Hybrid thought... 500 megabyte as apposed to 64 megs with minimal differences for the typical particular person ... I use this drive for the operating program only and some HDTV recording, I let my other drives deal with the data storage. This is a good mid location to be until the SSD's come down in price tag and can deal with more data. I have to hand it to Seagate on this 1, they are ahead of the curve! You can use it in your laptop if required. I know that is what it was intended for but it tends to make a fantastic desktop boot drive. That is what I will be making use of it for, I picture it will make a laptop Zing! :) It's rapid at 7200 rpm and sensible. That is allot of bang for the buck. I have one more on the way and will order much more in the future to upgrade my computer systems at residence. Zero Effectively believed out... Kudos to Seagate on this drive!

I purchased this drive to strengthen boot instances. It dropped my typical boot time by 1Ǚ! Quite happy with the boot speed! Coming back up from hibernate is also very faster! Does drain the battery a tiny faster than the old drive, but in all probability not additional than ten% I have not had any of the crashing, noise, heat concerns that other folks have had, but am a small nervous now and will make sure to back up regularly!Just a thought>>>>>It sounds like a greater percentage of the individuals that had crashing difficulties are MacBook users. I wonder if this could be mainly because of heating concerns. Possibly the 3 diverse MacBook instances are significantly less tolerant of "hotter" than the average of the hundreds of Computer style laptop cases. Who knows. Will Feedback once again if I have issues but so far... so awesome!!!

Does every thing as advertised. Boot times cut in half (Win7 House x64). Installed Windows with updates in ㅌ mins.Application overall performance is also far better, as is gaming performance (CoD Black Ops, L4D2, CnC3:KW).Seamless set up on my Dell XPS M1530. Extremely happy with this obtain. I believe it's worth the few added bucks more than a regular 500GB 7200rpm two.5" HDD.Upgraded firmware with no difficulty ƕ minutes plus a reboot) and Windows Encounter score went up .two points (from five.9 to 6.1). None so far. I haven't witnessed any of the issues some of the other people are possessing. Upgrading from another OEM Seagate 160GB 7200rpm HDD that came in my Dell XPS M1530. It just died so I bought the XT 500GB as a replacement. Soon after reading some of the comments I was a small hesitant so I waited a couple of months. Also my OEM HDD dying helped me to pull the trigger. :)Not sure if some of these other posters are finding undesirable drives or what but I have witnessed zero issues and am extremely pleased with this purchase.

It was quicker than my 5400rpm drive. Nonetheless slower than an SSD. Louder than my 5400rpm drive. More power consumption than either an SSD or a 5400rpm drive.Died following three months with only a few hundred power on hours. If they don't come about to have it in stock when you RMA it, they'll make you wait over two weeks following receiving your old drive and confirming it's broken and below warranty without even letting you know. For the month in the meantime, hopefully you have a non-Seagate really hard drive you can boot from.I don't ever strategy on obtaining a Seagate drive once more --- not mainly because the drive died, but mainly because client service sucks.

At initially I was hesitant of placing a notebook difficult drive in my desktop machine. I have to admit, I am quite impressed with how rapid it operates. I also have an Intel 80GB SSD in my machine and I can tell you they each really feel extremely related in speed in loading applications. Very impressive load speeds all round, Windows 7 boots incredibly swiftly. two.5" drive, so you require a bracket to mount it in most desktop instances, but this truly isn't a adverse. Could have had considerably higher capacity if they had the XT line in a three.5" type factor. If you are on the fence about employing a notebook tough drive in a desktop like I was, you won't be disappointed. This ended up being an extremely strong purchase which offers the balance of speed and capacity involving standard really hard drives and solid state drives.

Quite Fast and quiet, 499.97GB of 500GB usable non so far I replaced a WD 7200 rpm drive with this one about a month ago. It boots up OS X in 11 sec and Windows 7 Ultimate in 17 sec. It shuts down OS X as soon as I click the shut down button and Windows requires only six seconds. Also all the programs open up and run extremely fast. It's about twice as fast as my preceding 7200rpm HDD and more quickly then I expected it to be.My Technique: Macbook 6,1 white unibody two.26Ghz, 8GB DDR3, 500GB Momentus XT, Nvidia 9400m, Dualboot(Bootcamp) Mac OX X 10.six.6 and Windows 7 Ultimate

A lot more rapidly than a regular 7200rpm HDD. Outstanding if you use the similar handful of applications on a regular basis, bootup times are extremely rapid. Comes with Seagate's 5-year warranty in case anything goes wrong. Plenty of storage space. No specific drivers required. Not as quick as a pure SSD, but at a fraction of the price tag, you shouldn't anticipate it to be. Crucial: Be sure to upgrade the firmware. There were some troubles with the SD23 firmware that are fixed in SD24. Hyperlink for download: http://www.seagate.com/staticfiles/support/downloads/firmware/MomentusXT-ALL-SD24.exe

Even though this drive worked my personal computer was noticeably faster. I also added 1g of ram and up win 7 64 bit on it at the exact same time so I can't say it was the HD but I'm confident that the hybrid drive helped. This drive after about two weeks started to make a sound like a fan rubbing on its housing. I believed it was my CPU fan and ordered one particular and replaced it. The sound continued right after replacement of my fan and then about a month after installed my drive it failed. This was a wonderful drive for the cash. I think I just got a lemon. I've had actually excellent luck with seagate in the previous. This is just one a lot more lesson why it is so significant to back up anything you don't want to loose!

The drive is surely quick. Right after the drive "learns" your habits it genuinely does open those programs really rapidly. Other than that the overall performance positive aspects are not very advantageous. The drive came with old firmware vSD23 and was a discomfort to get the new version on there if you have an Apple. I ended up just plugging it into a windows machine to make it easier. It exhibited weird behavior such as clicking noises, would not go to sleep and would also lock up if I left it on all evening. I would have to do really hard shut downs to get it to shut down every so frequently. If you have a windows machine, it may work nicely for you, if you have an Apple I think it is a hit or miss. Some Mac owners adore this drive and other folks hate it. I'm returning it and buying a Western Digital Scorpio Black WD7500BPKT 750GB 7200 RPM and will see how that works out. Great luck to you if go with this drive, it could be a excellent issue or undesirable. Unibody MBP most up-to-date release, i7ǘ.66ǞGB RAM릘MB VRAM/Snow Leopard with current updates.

No issues in terms of program hangs, and so forth. Seemed slow when I put it in my 15" MacBook Pro. Granted, the SATA chipset in this machine has a 1.5Gbit link speed, so I'm not obtaining all I can from this drive. Even so, I didn't anticipate a efficiency degradation from my preceding Seagate Momentus drive. Xbench after utilizing this drive for a bit gave me a consistent overall score of 54-56. The most significant drops seemed to be in the CPU tests, but the different disk tests were decrease as properly. By comparison, Xbench gave me a 120-123 general score with my old drive, with CPU scores more than doubled in quite a few circumstances. Most almost everything I've read about this drive has been optimistic, so I feel what I'm experiencing right here has to do with the interaction of the hybrid features with this specifically pc's chipset.

No special drivers or computer softwareNoticeably more rapidly than IDEQuiet No cons Even though my principal personal computer is a newer ASUS MB with Intel quad-core CPU, it has always been hampered by the older PATA 5400 OS drive. VM swapping was painfully noticeable. Dropping in this drive (after using DiscWizard to create the clone) offered a huge overall raise in overall performance. Boot time dropped to roughly one-quarter of what it was, and all the most-frequently-utilised apps load faster. The combination of more rapidly rotational speed, bigger cache, and SSD appears like a excellent mixture.1 intriguing note: right after initial installation, I was hugely disappointed to come across the machine truly running slower than with the old original drive. I had performed all the prerequisites, like flashing the most up-to-date FW. It just seemed as if the drive was struggling to study. Right after much trial-and-error I plugged the drive into a different SATA port, and whoosh she took off! Perhaps a bad port or funky cable -- difficult to say. But due to the fact then it's been fantastic. Hugely recommended upgrade.

The hybrid HDD notion is strong and this certainly runs faster than a regular HDD, but at a much reduced cost than a full SSD.Laptop boots in significantly less the half the time to fully ready to go from the old 5400rpm HDD, both with a fresh installation for testing purposes.Win7 is wise about these drives and runs a bunch faster. It is also far more aggressive in spinning down the drive to save energy than with the old HDD. None. I'll be curious to see if/when Seagate begins escalating the SSD portion to larger than 4GB. That'll only make these a lot more eye-catching.
