Form factor for size, no external energy necessary slower than some drives, questionable reliability I have this drive basically to hold all of my household motion pictures and images on. They play with out lag or difficulties on every single Pc or laptop I plug it into. I have had no difficulties to this point. For the storage capacity it is a very good size and is transportable. I also appreciate the fact that I don't have to lug a power cord along with it when I travel.Being only USB powered it is slower than a powered drive but playback hasn't been impacted for me. Although I might not want to attempt to run applications off it...Seagate drives have a questionable (depending on who you speak to) reputation for good quality. For my part I personal 3 Seagate transportable drives and all have by no means failed my but I have had 3 HDD's from Seagate fail before. I always preserve a backup of all transportable drives on either my server or an actual backup drive just in case but I have not needed it for this drive. For storing media this drive has worked out wonderful for me...

Very compact but rugged style. Really like the SATA capability missing in quite a few of its competitors. Software - more like bloatware. A excellent compact design and style with glossy exterior is extremely charming with strong construction. The speeds are what you can count on from a 5,400 RPM difficult drive. The installation of the software is straightforward but it can consume some of the valuable memory. The other software program such as Memeo backup, etc. are not required.

Works just like a usb flash drive. No installation of software program. Just plug it in a go. It is huge. Just to massive to fit comfortably in a pocket.

Incredibly little and light and thats not contemplating the size of the challenging drive. I was incredibly impressed by it when unpackaging it. It does not use any proprietary connections. the SATA connection on the hard drive lets you connect it internally to your Pc which is a Massive plus for me. that will make 500GB+ backups a little additional tolerable. There is a 1ǘ inch connector to the SATA plugs that will convert it to USB2.Ǚ. eSATA or firewire. each one particular is sold separately on the other hand :( the USB 2. wire is a little longer than your fore-arm, but the adapter is USB mini B, so if you have a digital camera, you likely have a longer cable currently if you really will need it. I give seagate major props for not making use of proprietary connections, though the SATA adapter doesn't perform for other hdd's (would have been an awesome perk but i wont judge them for it.) Low power consumption for laptops and it only desires a single USB to power it. Best portable remedy for backups. I believe it was a poor decision to ship these with USB two. adapters. USB 3. is backwards compatible and future proof so that would cover the most bases. I suppose Seagate wants the extra ษ for acquiring the 3. adapter; its organization i fully grasp. on the other hand this attitude is going to hinder the transition from 2. to three. in the lengthy run (x86 to x64 ring a bell?) Wonderful capacity.Rapidly data transfer. I was in a position to play all my DL'ed Steam games off the HDD without having stuttering or slowdown.Adapter cable can be employed on most 2.five" HDD's.Stays cool.USB powered!Worked solid every day for 2 weeks. Stopped working following two weeks.Plugged it in 1 It seriously sucks when a HDD dies right after you've loaded it process back-ups for many Computer's and 120 GB+ worth of games. Just a waste of time now. I would have gladly accepted a replacement and been pleased, but the 1TB version is no longer in stock. So I had to get a refund. The out of stock aspect truly sucks worse than the lost information. I can usually get the data back, but now I don't have the enormous 1TB HDD that I wanted. :(

Large! this seriously has additional storage than most people today will want. transfer rates are fast and the drive sets up well. I have a mac and have it partitioned with a large portion for my mac and then a smaller portion formatted to store windows files. it gets a small warm after extended use. i use it with my laptop and if i dont set it on a challenging surface it gets a little also warm for my liking. highly recommended, good drive, great size and a good price tag

Futureproof, huge capacity, no power provide needed, fast(depending on the cable you use), interchangeable interface cables(USB three., Firewire 800, eSATA, USB 2.), little, practically the perfect external tough drive to carry about in your bag each day. portion where the cable connects can get pretty warm, but still holdable. firewire 800 cable is ุ, but i won't give the drive a negative review simply because of that, you have to obtain a separate cable if you want any sort of decent speeds out of it. I'm not sure you can beat this for portability, cost, and flexibility. I bought the firewire 800 cable for it(ุ) and get about what you'd count on out of a firewire 800 drive as far as transfer rates go. What I adore is this drive is quickly fast adequate even though holding more space than any individual ought to need to carry about day-to-day. I also enjoy the reality that there's a USB three. cable for it in case I ever get a pc with USB three..So far I've owned this HD for about two months, so far so excellent.

Lots of Space. It's generally unlimited storage for music, pictures and so forth. Came at a good value ๟ couldn't come across a better on Newegg or on the net. So its winning in that aspect. The drive was smaller than i expected. IT can fit in my back pocket so winning once more on that aspect. Short connection cable, I mean seriously brief wish it was a couple of feet longer, The drive is shaky. At occasions its recognized then there are times when you got to copy music and the computer system will say the drive is not plugged in even even though i am playing music files on itunes that are stored on the drive. You then have to unplugg the drive and replug it back in. That gets annoying real fast.Comes with bloatware (seagates backup software program). Only way to get rid of it fully is to format the drive soon as you plug it in.IF you delete the files by accident there is no download for it on seagate web site. You have to submit a email to them and then they send you a link to download. Need to have just created that a option to begin with. Seagate is under no circumstances a 1st selection for me even so WD didn't have a 1tb for a better value.I hope this drive doesn't fail me simply because withing a couple of days of use i already had the drive show up in RAW format without me even carrying out something to it. Also the complete computer system cannot recognize the drives at particular instances have me a lil worried. Will see how it goes. Additional than most likely when WD drops the price or newegg puts it on sale i will get a TB from them

1TB... little form-factor blah blah.... absolutely everyone knows that, but right here are the factors that make this drive standout in my eyes. -You can adjust interfaces between USB 2., Firewire 800, USB 3., or eSATA.-It comes with an App for Mac that allows you to read/write to an NTFS drive!!! Firewire interface gets a bit warmer than I would like. New Mac customers or those that want to swap files with Windows users: This drive is a godsend. Generally Mac can read NTFS (Windows based file method), but can\'t write to it. Which means that you can't very easily transfer the files amongst Mac and Computer. This drive essentially has an App that they offer for Free of charge after you register it that allows you to read/write to NTFS drives.

1tb and thats where it ends Continually fails and i mean continuouslyI store music on this drive and immediately after each and every reboot it appears the drive goes haywire and shows up in diskmanagement in rAw format.Try to delete files and it states the files are no longer situated on Drive E. When clearly thats where they are stored.Seagate customer service has no clue as to how to resolve this. Totally worthless. Their answer for everything is to reformat it smdh.Reboot the laptop or computer and suddenly the drive shows up fine. The drive sucks .... Will never ever purchase one more Seagate item again

Really Excellent Tough Drive Size, Good Sleek Black Finish, Ridiculously quiet, Does it's job. Feels like a brick, Mount Is a small funky but that's just me, Software is basically Bloatware. Purchased this Drive as a Replacement for an old Seagate that i had broken the mount. Does what i want it to, and the Seagate "software" doesn't get in the way all that usually (if at all). If you want a external drive, Acquire this. You wont regret it.

1TB of space in a incredibly compact product. Bad quality control here. I purchased two drives, and got bad sectors on each of them. Specific components of the disk had been unreadable. I'm waiting on an exchange. Hopefully the subsequent set will perform.

Lot's of storage. Can swap with other connections. Fairly quickly. Sleek and this was the only drive that was 1TB and also bus powered. Operating a headless/fanless Linux server at residence with no moving parts and I wanted my EHDD to suck up as small energy as feasible with no going into debt(I'm searching at you SSD). My initial drive came and was fine for 3 or four days, then I started finding bad sectors and ultimately I couldn't even mount the drive. Tried putting it on a Windows box but it also complained about bad sectors. RMAed and actually had my very first bit of trouble with Newegg. They stated I returned the right item, but 1 that had a various serial quantity, one particular they don't sell. Certainly getting some sort of warehouse error I named assistance and literally inside 2 minutes a supervisor was on the phone and pushed the RMA through. Got the new drive in early this week. So far so great but i'll be keeping an eye on it, and will most likely preserve all my data on the drive it's presently situated until i'm positive this thing won't destroy 200+ GB of data. Notice the 1.5TBǙ.five" version of this drive experiences the similar troubles. Maybe it's a problem with the enclosure? I was tempted to pry out the drive and hook it up straight but I didn't want to void something. I'll be keeping an eye on this and if it gives me any longer trouble i'm returning and dropping Seagate. I never ever had problems with them in the past(granted it was upwards of five or 6 years ago) but I'm reading a lot of Seagate item reviews and men and women are acquiring poor drives left and correct.

It has a lot of storage and it was quite inexpensive ( i purchased the 1.5tb one) It is really bulky. It is twice the size of a WD my passport. It is also fairly slow. When watching tv shows (not hd) it would skip/jump two-three occasions every 22 minute episode. Would not buy once more

Capacity, looks, versatility. I have had no issues with reliability, and I have had it for a number of months. As for the complaints about performance, what are they comparing it to? If one more pocket drive is superior, lead me to it! I became interested in Seagate's 1.5T drive, but decided to experiment by purchasing the eSATA adapter for my 1T drive, understanding that it was risky. Several (most?) eSATA ports do not present power to the drive. With the eSATA adapter, the drive works terrific when plugged into the USB2/eSata port of my puny Toshiba netbook. When plugged into my almighty Alienware, it does a superior imitation of a stunned mullet. This is not the fault of Seagate, but they must print in huge red letters in ads for the eSata adapter ONLY WORKS WITH POWERED USB2/eSATA PORTS.I assume that Seagate has a resolution for this, obtainable at additional price (a non-portable desk dock for a pocket drive, possibly?) . I would knock off an egg for this, but I knew about the potential dilemma when I ordered the drive -- but only mainly because I read the review for yet another product, and is a primary a review of the USB2 configuration, and only secondarily of the potential gotcha's of the GoFlex approach. (Warning: rant follows) We are now in painful and expensive transitional period throughout which we are going to see eSATA cables promptly disappear from our desk tops only to be replaced by USB3. Who wants USB3? An eSATA / USB2 port gives all the speed and compatibility to satisfy our present requirements, whilst USB3 is obviously an example of the time-honored planned obsolescent technique that advantages producers at our expense. Given the reality that most users don't appear to get that a great deal speed advantage from a pocket drive, it seems that sticking to USB2 is the finest method for now, and a lot less costly. If so, it doesn't make sense to pay additional for the GoFlex's versatility.

Cons: Finger Print Magnet...5400rpm speed could be a hinderance for PVR users.

Pros: Simple, Good Looks, Small, Quiet, Cool, USB 3.0 upgradeable, Decent Size, Unique Sata/Power Design, Durable.
Comment:
I bought this elsewhere (yea I'm bad sometimes) however I have to add my 3 cents on this units ability. First off it offers a unique upgrade path via addon cables albeit to achieve an assortment of connectivity measures. I like the ability to achieve USB 3.0 speed in the near future. It's 1TB size is pleasing while I stuff my movie collection on this and into my pants pocket...sweet. I find the unit very snappy, quiet and relatively cool all the while it is durable enough to take a small tumble out of hand (I found that out already). I love it!
